Street Style, Paris: 21 shots of Chanel swag, motorcycle garb and laser cuts outside fashion week
See all the street style from Paris here »
You would think that after almost a month of Fashion Weeks with intense schedules, endless fashion shows and plenty of travel time, the fashion elite would be running out of things to wear. But the latest batch of street style shots from outside Paris Fashion Week depict anything but. Some of our favourite street style stars were out in full force, wearing their best and brightest, and enjoying all the fashion frivolities. Clearly the playful vibes from Chanel’s fashion-show-turned-shopping-centre were infectious.
Besties and fellow editors, Giovanna Battaglia and Anna Dello Russo hammed it up for the cameras atop concrete bollards. Just how ADR got up there without rumpling her floor-length Spring 2014 Valentino, we’ll never know. In a coy twist on a virginal long sleeved lace dress, Kate Foley wore a strip of bright red gaffe tape strategically placed as a pseudo censor bar straight from the Preen Fall 2014 show. Several models fresh off of the Chanel runway proudly showed off their free swag courtesy of the label’s shopping aisles. (We’re more than a little jealous of Anya Ziourova’s Chanel doormat…)

From the downtown sights of this latest batch of photos, it looks like the Lower East Side has hit Paris. The Cannes report: Partygoing with Diane Kruger, Mia Wasikowska, Uma Thurman, Olivier Zahm, Clemence Poésy and more!
By Laura deCarufel
Here’s a fashion fan party trick: Determine how many pairs of white jeans Olivier Zahm owns. The Purple Fashion magazine editor-in-chief wore a slim-fitting pair at every major event I saw him at during Cannes: The Chanel Cruise 2012 after-party, where he snapped photos of Kristen McMenemy dancing on a chair, and then nuzzled with It Brit Poppy Delevigne; the Calvin Klein beach-side extravaganza, where he wore his sunglasses at night, sipping champagne near Uma Thurman and Rosario Dawson; and, of course, at the late-night piano bar, which Le Baron, the iconic Parisian nightclub, has taken over during the festival, and over which Zahm presided like hipster royalty.

The chronicles of John Galliano and the quickest pardon in fashion history
As is the case with virtually any news story these days, the developments in the John Galliano story⎯the designer being accused of hurling anti-Semitic insults at an (incidentally non-Jewish) couple while drinking at the Paris café, Le Perle⎯can be measured in tweets, quotes and snippets. Given the proliferated speed at which these bits are published and publicized, it’s amazing to witness how quickly the industry’s reaction has gone from appalled to forgiving to looking forward to the designer’s imminent replacement at Dior. Given the industry’s propensity for forgetfulness⎯history has made fools of those who once condemned Coco Chanel for her involvement with the Nazis or Kate Moss for being caught with cocaine⎯we have no doubt that Galliano will be back at the top in no time. All references to the frankly horrifying severity of his remarks will vanish and whereas Chanel’s and Moss’s actions took years to do the same, Galliano’s have almost done so in a matter of 14 days. Meanwhile, as rumours swirl for a possible replacement by Riccardo Tisci, Alber Elbaz and Marc Jacobs, we take a look back at the quickest judgment turnarounds in fashion history.

Fashion news: U.S. introduces design piracy bill, Glee star doesn’t steal dresses and people still talking about Shiloh’s hair
Footwear designer Nicholas Kirkwood is designing two styles for London label Peter Pilotto, set to debut at London Fashion Week. Though Kirkwood has designed shoes for design duo Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos for the past two seasons, this is the first time the world at large will be able to get their hands on the collaboration. [WWD]
U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer has introduced a bill that would seek to protect fashion designers from infringement. The Innovative Design Protection and Piracy Prevention Act is supported by the CFDA. If the bill passes, those seeking damages “must show that his design provides “a unique, distinguishable, non-trivial and non-utilitarian variation over prior designs” and show that the copy is nearly indistinguishable from the original. Fashion news: Lara Stone sues French Playboy, Mad Men nail polish and Olivier Zahm’s broken heart
Purple mag editor Olivier Zahm has been dumped by his main lady love, Natacha Ramsay, for another man. Zahm wrote a post on Purple Diary, which was accompanied by an image of a shattered frame of an image of the two during happier times. An excerpt: “She called me to tell me that she loves him, that we are finished. I asked her to come back two times and she said no two times […] Right now I’m just a mess.” [Purple Diary]
Angela Missoni, who has been the creative director of her clothing line and family biz since 1996, is thinking of stepping down within the next two years and plans to hand the reigns over to her daughter Margherita. [Vogue UK]
Lara Stone is suing French Playboy for publishing nude shots of her without her permission. Stone maintains: “It’s not the kind of publication I would ever choose to appear in. I feel I have no option but to take steps to protect my reputation.” [The Cut]

Breaking: Having your name in the news all the time, even in a negative light, can help you sell stuff. A retail analyst suggests that Lindsay Lohan‘s prison sentence could help with sales of her 6126 leggings line. [WWD]
