André Leon Talley, the Former Influential Vogue Editor, Dies at 73
André Leon Talley, who died January 18 at age 73, was the poster boy for a bygone era of fashion media, when the focus was on designers and their craft, and when knowledge of fashion history was a valued asset. “He was a one man style encyclopedia,” Toronto writer Shinan Govani declared on Instagram to […]

The Grandiloquence of André Leon Talley
At the height of The Philadelphia Story (1940), a classic American romantic comedy, there’s a brief moment of profound sadness. “You’re going to sell The True Love… for money?” asks Katharine Hepburn. On the receiving end of the question is Cary Grant, who, in the film, plays Hepburn’s old flame; The True Love is the […]

We Talk With André Leon Talley About Being the Subject of a New Documentary
One of my favourite “Mondays with André” on Vogue.com is a 2013 interview André Leon Talley (ALT) did with designer Tom Ford. It was shortly after Ford’s son was born, and when the designer mentions changing diapers, Talley’s eyes widen with shock—not disgust (OK, maybe a little disgust) but shock. “Are they made of broadcloth?” he […]

Street Style, New York: A blizzard can’t keep fashionable attendees (including Jared Leto!) from the Fall 2014 shows
Just when we thought the weather couldn’t get any worse! After a week of chilly temps but not much snow, Snowstorm Pax brought its arctic fury to the streets of Manhattan for the last day of New York Fashion Week. The scene outside the Fall 2014 shows was one of attendees bundled up from head to toe, so it was fitting then that most of the shows yesterday—J. Mendel, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren all included—sent out strong furry looks, perfect for braving the snow. If our recent season of snowstorms is looking to become a reoccurring trend, we will be needing a whole lot of fur come this time next year.
Given the veritable blizzard going on, hats were the necessary accessory du jour. Miroslava Duma and Nasiba Adilova channelled their native land looking like life-sized Russian nesting dolls, each with their embroidered scarf as headgear. André Leon Talley was even sporting a toque and burgundy snakeskin gloves to stop the cold – you know it’s serious when the King of Fabulousness goes practical. But there was no hat worthy of crowing Jared Leto’s expertly ombré-d head – nothing can stop those luscious locks. Not even a havoc-inducing blizzard.

Street Style, New York: 53 photos of style stars (and Barbara Walters!) braving the heat outside Spring 2014 fashion week
Despite the scorching heat wave, street style regulars were definitely into leather on day six of New York Fashion Week Spring 2014.
Many fashion enthusiasts layered classic leather jackets or vests over their summery outfits, but Miroslava Duma and blogger Chiara Ferragni rocked the leather trend by pulling out maxi and studded mini respectively.
The Beckerman sisters joined in on the leather-clad fun. While Samantha Beckerman opted for a pleated black skirt and a Marc Jacobs Mickey Mouse sweater, Cailliane went rocker chic in a Rodarte black and red-fringed leather vest and Mickey printed leggings. Style to spare in duplicates, those girls.
Accessories were definitely making a statement on the streets. From Leandra Medine’s colourful arm candy to a furry black and blue clutch adding texture to a head to toe black ensemble, accessories were stealing the spotlight. Even the much-coveted mini Chanel hula-hoop purse made an appearance.
While the vast majority strutted the streets outside New York Fashion Week in killer heels, flats, sneakers and furry Céline sandals were the popular and definitely more comfortable choice. Even Anna Dello Russo, the queen of statement stilettos, wore leather boots, albeit bejewelled and bedazzled.
