Earlier this month, Leandra Medine aka. The Man Repeller was at Holt Renfrew in Toronto to promote the release of her first book, Man Repeller: Seeking Love, Finding Overalls. In typically self-deprecating form, Medine charts the story of her life’s course thusfar alongside several fashion items, including the Canadian tuxedo she helped transform from early ought disaster a la Justin and Britney to the height of fashion. The items, set up as life lessons (harem pants = the way to suss out if a guy loves you for you, Bermuda shorts = how to sort out your body issues) prove why fashion isn’t just simply a fact of life, but life itself, at least for fashion freaks like us.

Before an intimate dinner at Rose and Sons, Medine sat for a live Q&A at Holts hosted by yours truly. We both sat in director’s chairs amidst racks of Helmut Lang and 3.1 Phillip Lim. There were many cute gals in attendance. It was a thrill.

The sun was out on day four of New York Fashion Week Spring 2014. So were the style stars and their accessories. Carine Roitfeld’s wrap-around sunglasses were totally Star Trek and totally amazing. Just as great was Giovanna Battaglia’s pilgrim belt that was so wide it could probably double as a shirt (see below re: crop tops).  But it was neckgear that was the must-have accessory of the moment. These jewels were so chunky they were essentially clavicle armour. Case in point: Man Repeller Leandra Medine’s Frankensteinian choker.

Also out in full force? Shoulders. Like those of Moda Operandi’s Taylor Tomasi Hill and Danielle Prescod, who were just two of the showgoers to embrace the off the shoulder and strapless looks. And it if wasn’t a shoulder it was (still!) definitely a tummy. If the sidewalks have anything to say about it, crop tops will be around for a while.

Though we all tend to fixate on Christmas around this time of the year, it’s easy to forget that it ain’t the only holiday in town. Hanukkah, the annual Festival of Lights is pretty rad too. Beginning tomorrow night (December 8) and going for 8 days until December 16, Hannukah will be celebrated by Jews by lighting menorahs, spinning dreidels, and eating too many latkes and jelly-stuffed doughnuts (Speaking for myself, that is). And while the kiddies may receive a different gift and a gold wrapped chocolate coin each night, the adults need a little bit of fun too. The fashion industry just got a set of mini mes all thanks to The Coveteur. The re-launch of the site started by Torontonians Erin Kleinberg and Stephanie Mark is kicked off by a video starring child actors as Taylor Tomasi Hill, Kimye, Leandra Medina aka Man Repeller, Rachel Zoe and many, many more.

The self-proclaimed party of the year was DJed by Leigh Lezark and had the Courtin-Clarins girls looking disinterested on their cellphones and wearing designers from Altuzarra to Osh Kosh. As per real life, mini Anna Dello Russo stole the show yelling, “everything is fashion, darling” to a regular sized Jeanne Beker who just so happened to be working the carpet.
