Your plus size guide to Spring 2014 trends: How to do crop tops, pastels and more!
After a slow start, it looks like spring is finally here. Months of ogling new arrivals has prepped us for taking the Spring 2014 trend plunge and while some (read: crop tops) seem made exclusively for those size zero girls, fear not: I’m here to teach you how to appropriate Spring 2014’s top trends for the plus size girl.
Since reawakening the drab wintery closet of a plus size girl may be limited as there aren’t as many on-trend offerings, it’s easy to get intimidated. And while your go-to retailer of extended sizes may not always have what you want, it takes a little ingenuity to scour the petite section for curvy-friendly pieces with a little give or the glorious two-way stretch. Before you go shopping, here’s some outfit inspiration on Spring 2014 trends for the girl with a little more.

Alexander McQueen casts Kate Moss as a futuristic urban warrior in its Spring 2014 ad campaign
See the Alexander McQueen ads starring Kate Moss »
In just her latest chameleon turn, model superstar Kate Moss is a futuristic urban warrior for Alexander McQueen’s Spring 2014 ad campaign images, which debuted online today. Part tribal goddess, part bondage queen, Moss looks totally fierce in a decidedly dystopian and unnatural setting shot on location in East London. Despite being a friend of the late designer, this is Moss’s first appearance in an Alexander McQueen ad, this time shot by long time McQueen collaborator Steven Klein.
In the ads, Moss’s Day-Glo cropped hair is gelled back for maximum impact, making her signature gaze all the more enchanting. Zipper-encrusted collars, pleated leather skirts and full feathered pieces show off the model’s svelte 40-year-old bod, while the gold arm cuffs highlight the vibrancy of her hair. Even the lookalike voodoo doll Moss shares the camera with is outfitted in replica miniature get ups.

Top Spring 2014 Trends: 200 fashion week photos
See the biggest Spring 2014 fashion trends »
See all our fashion month coverage »With the end of fashion week in Toronto marking the close of Spring 2014 show season, it’s time we looked back at all the trends that emerged. As much as the runway sets the pace for what’s to come for the top Spring 2014 trends, the streets play a major role as show-going trendsetters give us the relatable breakdown of how to wear what’s hot next season. Prints take two spots on our top Spring 2014 trends list through those with a painterly quality and those influenced by international cultures. At Hérmes, Rousseau-inspired water lily florals were printed on luxurious fabrics while at Diane Von Furstenberg, dresses and skirts depicting an African wilderness roared. As for fashionable time travel, prepare to keep reminiscing about the youthful 1990s, which haven’t ceased to get reincarnated season after season. Designers like Rodarte, Balmain and Jason Wu have reinvented the decade’s essentials yet again. To help with your daydreaming of long sunny spring days we’ve compiled the ultimate gallery of top Spring 2014 trends as dictated by the runways and our favourite street style stars in New York, London, Milan, Paris and Toronto! Feel free to let this be your guide to budgeting and creating closet space for next season’s must have pieces.

Street Style, Milan: Anna Wintour, Carine Roitfeld and Anna Dello Russo shine in our final batch of fashion week photos
See the street style photos from Milan fashion week »
And just when we thought we’d seen the last of Milan Fashion Week prints, the ever-popular trend has been taken to new heights in today’s latest batch of street style photos from outside the Spring 2014 shows.
On the final day of Milan Fashion Week, photographer Sophie Mhabille spotted brave fashion attendees playing up their favourite popping pieces. Milan-based Russian fashionista Zhanna Romashka epitomized this trend in a colour-block witty printed dress by Giulia Rositani, a blue beret and mustard yellow polka dot print neckerchief. The two Annas of the fashion world were also spotted in print-filled ensembles. While Anna Wintour looked prim and proper (as usual) in a floral print dress, leave it to fashion eccentric Anna Dello Russo to pull off a head to toe Fay Spring 2014 look, complete with a lustworthy snoopy print jacket.

Street Style, Milan: Italian It girls Chiara Ferragni, Candela Novembre and Chiara Totire outside Spring 2014 fashion week

Will we ever get sick of prints? Judging from the latest batch of style snaps from Milan Fashion Week, it’s a definite no. Stylish attendees are consistently bringing out the loveable trend to the Italian streets. Gingham was the popular print over the weekend, with photographer Sophie Mhabille spotting one girl in a pink billowy gingham skirt and another in adorably chic flared cropped gingham pants. Two of Grazia’s It girls also caught our attention including Candela Novembre’s Kenzo eye print ensemble and Chiara Totire’s colourful lettered Au Jour Le Jour dress. Gone are the days of just a simple floral skirt.

Street Style, Milan: 13 photos of monochromatic outfits and pretty prints on day two of the Spring 2014 shows

Already noticed on A-listers in the front row, monochromatic outfits were big on the streets on day two of Milan Fashion Week Spring 2014. And not just any shade: We’re talking about bold, standout primary colours—right in line, actually, with the Max Mara Spring 2014 collection. One street style star looked stellar in head to toe red, complete with chic black accessories (including a lifelike kitty clutch!), while another rocked canary yellow pants as she gave our photographer, Sophie Mhabille, her best Kristen Stewart impression. Known for her feminine poised style, Giovanna Battaglia also embraced the monochrome look in a baby blue printed shirt and polka dot tulip skirt.
Speaking of prints (which continues to be the most popular trend), Milan’s streets were filled with a whirlwind of stylish ladies in various printed dresses and skirts—tartan, floral, gingham you name it! With the sun blazing in Milan on the official last days of summer, we’re sensing the street style stars are taking full advantage of the warmer weather and squeezing out the very last wears of their summer outfits.

After showing off stellar outfit after outfit in New York City, fashion week regulars—as well as our photographer Stefania Yarhi—packed up and headed across the pond. London Fashion Week kicked off on Friday and, as our newest batch of street style shots will reveal, everyone brought their A-game.
London’s street style definitely took a turn from what we saw at NYFW—though the change in weather may also be responsible. Bundling upon one of fall’s favourite trend, stylish attendees kept warm in fabulous coats. Everything from leopard print to fur to on-trend shades of pink and grey were spotted as they hopped from one show to the next.

Street Style, New York: 17 photos of Leandra Medine, Anna Dello Russo and more on the final day of Spring 2014 shows
New York Fashion Week has officially wrapped up with top-tiered shows by Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs finishing the week off on a stylish note. But before everyone flies off to the other side of the Atlantic, let’s have one last look at New York street style’s finest, captured by our photographer Stefania Yarhi.
With yesterday’s weather still relatively warm, many of the ladies took full advantage and bared some skin on the last day of NYFW. Possibly influenced by the minimalist looks on the runways, our favourite Russian beaut Miroslava Duma—whose outfits never fail to disappoint—wowed in a two-tone sleeveless calf-length dress. Leandra Medine also exposed her legs in a pair of high-waist shorts and high-heeled Balenciaga oxfords, but it was Anna Dello Russo (of course!) who caught everyone’s attention in a white mini dress and a pair of Céline furry neon-yellow pumps. Also killing it with the accessories was one stunning blonde who strutted the streets like nobody’s business in a black sheer laced dress and a lust-worthy “Cool” Lanvin necklace.
