Tavi Gevinson’s Rookie Mag Is Folding After 7 Years
At 13, I knew that I wanted to write for magazines one day. By 15, I’d amassed a collection of monthly’s so large that my bookshelf was on the verge of buckling. Around the same time, Tavi Gevinson began acquiring international attention for her role as Editor-in-chief of Rookie Mag. A girl my age at […]

11 Feminists To Follow Who Are Subverting Fashion and Beauty Ideals on Instagram
It would be an understatement to say that Instagram is one of the most relevant social media apps today. Used by media conglomerates and independent creatives alike, it’s the place where today’s most important imagery and messaging is shared. However, there are some people who take it a step further. And no, I’m not talking […]

Why the Beauty Industry’s Overuse of the Term “Anti-Aging” is Annoying as Hell
As a beauty writer, I get so many products that are labelled “anti-aging” and I am tired of it. I don’t know who made the decision to use it as a blanket term, but somehow that’s the only term ever used anymore. I imagine because it’s effective. Many women have become so frightened by society’s abhorrence of […]

From Tavi to Irene Kim, social media’s It girls are now owning the beauty world
If today’s beauty news say anything, it’s that there are major changes coming in the world of campaigns. Where supermodels and leading actresses have traditionally ruled the billboards, it seems like the criteria to become a beauty ambassador as of late is a huge social media following and an all-around go-getter. A millennial baby? Even […]

TIFF 2013: Fassbender gossip! Plus 23 shots of Olivia Wilde, Dakota Fanning and more at the Variety Studio at Holt Renfrew
See all the pictures from the Variety Studio at Holt Renfrew »
Critics were rendered speechless at Friday night’s premiere of 12 Years a Slave—and at the Variety Studio yesterday at Holt Renfrew, the same thing happened to us when Michael Fassbender, one of the film’s stars, entered the room along with director Steve McQueen and a few members of the cast. Wearing a black shawl collar sweater and dark jeans, Fassy (as we’re in the habit of calling him) sent our fangirl hearts racing in delight as we shrieked inside, trying to process that we were breathing in the same air as him. Also, dude has like the tiniest waist ever.
While waiting to be interviewed, we watched as Fassbender made a beeline for a tray of strawberries. Despite making a sour facial reaction, he gave the berry a thumbs up. No, like literally a thumbs up. Annnnd we’re officially jealous of fruit. Then he tilted back a glass of Moët, chatting with co-star Alfre Woodard and laughing at something she said before posing for a photo with her. Meanwhile the film’s lead, Chiwetel Ejiofor, sidled up to the British Airways bar and had a cup of something hot—hopefully having to say thank you to everyone complimenting his much-buzzed-about performance hasn’t made him lose his voice.

Vancouver’s Style Common proves that four bloggers are better than one
Four brains (and closets) are better than one. Or at least, that’s what the new site, The Style Common, shows us. Started by four Vancouver-based fashion bloggers (three from our very own Style Panel, no less), The Style Common is a collective that pairs online skills with companies looking to partner with bloggers.
Started by Alicia Quan of Alicia Fashionista, Alexandra Grant, Jen Tam of Her Waise Choice and Jennifer Pistor, The Style Common is tapping into a market that has been steadily building. Bloggers have started to work closely alongside companies with events like Tavi Gevinson touring with Urban Outfitters all summer or Leandra Medine of Man Repeller collaborating with lines like Dannijo. Bloggers have the ability to get the word out about brands, products or whatever through their personal voices and knowledge of what works for their readers.

New York Fashion Week Spring 2013 Street Style: We spot Kirsten Dunst, Zosia Mamet,Tavi Gevinson and…the Jonas Brothers
Check out more photos from New York Fashion Week!»
From the city that never sleeps, it also seems that the fashion crowd never sleeps during fashion week, as photographer Stefania Yarhi has caught even more stylish ladies (and a few men!) outside the shows at New York Fashion Week Spring 2013.
The excitement was in the air as Hollywood’s elite sat in the coveted front row of Rodarte’s Spring 2013 show on Tuesday. Plunked beside Rachel Zoe and Anna Wintour in the front row was Kirsten Dunst (fresh from her visit to Toronto for TIFF to promote her upcoming film On the Road), who Yahri captured leaving the show wearing an on-trend cream and brown striped dress with lace and ruffles from Rodarte’s Fall 2012 collection.

Quotable: Iris Apfel will never pay a fortune to look like a freak
If there were anyone who’d be worth listening to when it comes to style pointers, it’d be Iris Apfel. The “geriatric star,” as she refers to herself, has 90 years of experience in the field. With a M.A.C cosmetics line and a Costume Institute exhibit of her wildly eccentric wardrobe under her belt, it’s safe to say she’s an expert. True to form, Apfel had sharp one-liners and nuggets of wisdom to spare during a talk with Tavi Gevinson at the Met last night.
When asked about throwing looks together in the morning, Apfel advised taking chances:
