TIFF 2013: Inside the Words And Pictures pre-party with Juliette Binoche and Clive Owen’s moustache
See the Words and Pictures party images »
The first thing I saw when my cab pulled up to Blowfish Restaurant on King Street West for the Words and Pictures TIFF pre-party was Juliette Binoche, a vision in noir charming the cameras outside. With a chic, cropped hair cut and immaculate, glowing skin, she looked every bit the movie star, even if the September air was a tad balmy for her stunning full-length fur coat—the French actress later revealed that it was vintage Lanvin, her sheer, black gown Chanel.
Arriving before Binoche, who had just flown in from Germany, was her co-star Clive Owen, sporting a perfectly-fitted suit and what can only be described as the most attractive moustache ever. The rakish Brit nibbled on sushi and sipped Moët & Chandon on a banquet at the back of the restaurant but when Binoche made her entrance, he rose to greet her with a warm hug and peck on the cheek. The two showed they are clearly more than just co-stars, sitting next to each other and catching up with director Fred Schepisi. While both actors spent the evening chatting and posing for photos with their admirers, their co-star David Negahban of Homeland fame also had a large following of impassioned fans.

TIFF 2013: Fassbender gossip! Plus 23 shots of Olivia Wilde, Dakota Fanning and more at the Variety Studio at Holt Renfrew

Critics were rendered speechless at Friday night’s premiere of 12 Years a Slave—and at the Variety Studio yesterday at Holt Renfrew, the same thing happened to us when Michael Fassbender, one of the film’s stars, entered the room along with director Steve McQueen and a few members of the cast. Wearing a black shawl collar sweater and dark jeans, Fassy (as we’re in the habit of calling him) sent our fangirl hearts racing in delight as we shrieked inside, trying to process that we were breathing in the same air as him. Also, dude has like the tiniest waist ever.
While waiting to be interviewed, we watched as Fassbender made a beeline for a tray of strawberries. Despite making a sour facial reaction, he gave the berry a thumbs up. No, like literally a thumbs up. Annnnd we’re officially jealous of fruit. Then he tilted back a glass of Moët, chatting with co-star Alfre Woodard and laughing at something she said before posing for a photo with her. Meanwhile the film’s lead, Chiwetel Ejiofor, sidled up to the British Airways bar and had a cup of something hot—hopefully having to say thank you to everyone complimenting his much-buzzed-about performance hasn’t made him lose his voice.

TIFF 2013: The full list of the stars coming to town (plus, how we may embarrass ourselves in front of them)
It’s here! After about a month of speculation since the Toronto International Film Festival first announced its roster of films, a list of attendees has been released through the festival’s Pinterest page and it’s A-list enough to get your stalking senses tingling. We ain’t even going to try to hide the fact that we become extraordinary (but elegant) creeps during TIFF, so without further ado, here’s our game plan for approaching the biggest and best stars at TIFF 2013.

TIFF 2011: Go inside the Variety Studio at Holt Renfrew and view snaps of Leighton Meester, Clive Owen, Emily Blunt, Ethan Hawke, and more!
Despite the long list of megawatt celebs (Clive Owen! Leighton Meester! Emily Blunt!) that rolled through the Variety Studio at Holt Renfrew this week, the vibe was decidedly relaxed. We stopped by on Saturday to do a bit of celeb stalking and instead of the flurry of stress we thought we’d be met with, the celebs were easy breezy, spending a couple of minutes in front of the camera, and then schmoozing, playing the new Nintendo DS, drinking wine or tea, and accepting gift bags full of swag from Moroccan Oil and Canadian jewellery company Anzie.
While we were there, we spotted Rachel Weisz, alongside her Deep Blue Sea co-star Tom Hiddleston, looking breathtaking (we mean that literally) in a Giambattista Valli resort leopard dress, with a simple shape and sky-high black pumps. Leighton Meester, who was interviewed alongside scene-pros Allison Janney and Oliver Platt for their film The Oranges, was looking sweet in a Louis Vuitton resort 2012 pleated dress, a blazer by Nonoo, and pink and black Pierre Hardy wedges. Meanwhile, Elizabeth Olsen and Sarah Paulson sported matching prints.

TIFF news: the InStyle party, Ed Norton snubs the cameras and stars remember Swayze
Matt Damon, Amanda Seyfried, and Colin Farrell were shot by InStyle at the Windsor Arms for the November issue. The magazine’s party at the hotel later that night drew Clive Owen, Robin Wright, Keanu Reeves and Fergie (the royal, not the singer). [WWD] [@mbilodeau]
Ed Norton was none too pleased to see the media at the Cheval after party for his film Leaves of Grass. Norton didn’t walk the red carpet or give the cameras a shot, sneaking into the party inconspicuously. [Toronto Life]

TIFF news: Clooney at Jack Astors?, Perez on Jon Gosselin, and more
George Clooney may or may not have indulged in pasta at Jack Astor’s. We also hear he dined with Michael Caine at George–right downstairs from our offices. Curses! [Toronto Life]
More celebrity dining news at the link. The salient bit of info: Tilda Swinton was just walking down Avenue Rd. yesterday. [The Star]
