TIFF 2013: Amy Poehler and Matthew Weiner get the Grey Goose Soho House party started early on Saturday
See the Grey Goose Soho House party photos »
The shadowy main floor of Soho House had sunlight streaming in on Saturday afternoon for an earlier-than-usual start time to the day’s TIFF 2013 Grey Goose festivities. For the television obsessed, the You Are Here party was about as good as it gets: the film is Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner’s big screen debut and the stacked cast includes SNL alum Amy Poehler. In keeping with the girl power vibe we’ve come to know and love Poehler for, she spent most of the party seated in conversation with a large group of women—only when she got up to go to the bathroom did outsiders dare approach to sing her praises. (Two partygoers may or not have applied an excessive amount of lipstick in said bathroom in hopes of a at-the-sink meet cute to no success.)
Weiner, meanwhile, worked the room like a pro. His mingling was so on point—making sure to catch up with every VIP in the room—that I half expected him to come over and say hello. A girl can dream!
Also representing TV land was Lauren Lapkus—who’s part of the cast of Orange Is the New Black, dressed in an on-theme floral dress. But it was Laura Ramsey, flanked by her dapper designer boyfriend Greg Chait (of Elder Statesman), who won outfit of the night. Her all-black ensemble by Jenni Kayne consisted of perfectly tailored trousers and a top with sheer cap sleeves that were connected to a cape—very Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford at the Oscars. Basically: add “capes” to your fall shopping list now.
And in keeping its reputation alive as the place to be during TIFF, talent streamed in the doors of Soho House all night long despite no other official film parties being on the agenda. Sandra Bullock, fresh from the Venice Film Festival, made it her first destination after arriving in Toronto ahead of today’s Gravity premiere. Also in attendance were Dakota Fanning, Rachel McAdams, Jason Reitman and Susan Saradon. And Chris Hemsworth may have the best younger brother ever: Liam was spotted at Soho House last night which has us predicting that he’ll join Chris on the Rush red carpet tonight—just like he did last week in London.

We ain’t even going to try to hide the fact that we become extraordinary (but elegant) creeps during TIFF, so without further ado, here’s our game plan for approaching the biggest and best stars at TIFF 2013.

We’ve gathered some of the best curly hair and wavy hair looks from recent red carpets all in one place. (If you haven’t already logged into your Pinterest account, now’s the time!)

Emmys 2012 Best Dressed: See our top 24 red carpet picks and vote for your favourite
See our Emmys 2012 Best Dressed picks »
There was a surprise winner on the red carpet at last night’s Emmys awards show and it happened to be the colour yellow. It’s safe to say many of the stars had a sunny outlook for the night.
Julianne Moore, Claire Danes, and Kaley Cuoco all sported dresses in egg yolk yellow. Moore opted for pieces from Raf Simmons’ first couture collection for Christian Dior, Danes wore Lanvin which flattered her pregnant belly, and Cuoco wore Angel Sanchez.
Our favourite funny girls, Kristen Wiig, Amy Poehler, and Tina Fey, kept their looks simple and classic. Dressed in a cream Balenciaga, black sequined Stella McCartney, and burgundy Vivienne Westwood, respectively, these comedians looked anything but silly.
There were some could-be-prom-queen moments from Zooey Deschanel and January Jones, whose trains were as long as they were wide. Deschanel had a cutesy manicure (of course) to go with her Reem Acra fluffy gown that featured a tiny TV on her nail. Turns out wearing tulle on the red carpet is harder than it seems because Zooey Deschanel got her gown caught on Lucy Liu’s metallic Versace dress. Oh, the agony!
Despite Zooey Deschanel and January Jones’ large looks, many women opted for body hugging dresses. Sofia Vergara resembled a sparkling mermaid in Zuhair Murad which featured a between the boobs cut-out and Hayden Panettiere was feeling blue in her bollywood inspired Marchesa gown. Michelle Dockery also hopped aboard the blue train in a Louis Vuitton satin dress and Nicole Kidman joined as well with a teal embellishment.

10 un-sappy ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day that won’t make you feel like a bitter old maid
Whether you have a hate-on for anything sappy or romantic, or your guy is of the genus Homo Neglectus and refuses to acknowledge the high holy day of love, it can be hard to find non-romantic things to do that don’t feel like you’re making some bitter-old-maid statement. SNP’s word of the day: Republicants
Word: Republicants
Usage: “Goddess help us if any of these Republican maniacs become US President #Republicants“ — @BruceLaBruce
Definition: According to the ever-reliable Urban Dictionary, “A group of stuck-up prudish rednecks who believe in a world where the rich get richer and everyone else is just in the way.” According to me, “Politicians I can’t believe are also human beings.”

Sketch to Screen: SNL’s Kristen Wiig is Hollywood’s coolest comedienne
To any fan of Saturday Night Live, the name Kristen Wiig conjures her many memorable characters: unabashed one-upper Penelope, the quick-to-comment Target cashier, a Chardonnay-swilling Kathie Lee Gifford. Those who don’t make SNL a standing date may remember Wiig as Will Forte’s sidekick with Farrah Fawcett hair in MacGruber or Katherine Heigl’s bitchy E! co-worker in Knocked Up. But with this month’s release of Bridesmaids, Wiig’s first starring film role (she also co-wrote the script), she’s graduating from sketch- and scene-stealer to the ranks of leading ladies Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
