A photo posted by Charlotte Tilbury (@ctilburymakeup) on May 2, 2016 at 7:51pm PDT Lady Gaga said it only took her ten minutes to get ready for last night’s Met Gala, and Beyoncé said her latex getup (Becky, is that you?) was easier to get into than her dress at last year’s Met. Whether our […]

Inside Chanel’s casino-themed (and celeb-stacked) Fall 2015 Couture show
Feeling lucky? Karl Lagerfeld sure is. For Chanel‘s Fall 2015 haute couture collection he created a casino complete with slot machines and gaming tables in the Grand Palais. Chanel muses including Kristen Stewart, Julianne Moore, Rita Ora and Lily Collins (all in couture and diamonds, bien sur) bellied up to the blackjack and roulette tables […]

Cannes 2015: The best-dressed stars on the film festival’s red carpet
Red carpet action may buzz on this side of the world week after week, but all eyes will be on the South of France for the next few, with the 68th Annual Cannes Film Festival officially kicking off today. With premieres, photocalls and parties left right and centre, outfit inspiration à la red carpet doesn’t […]

Oh the irony! Joan Didion is announced as the face of Céline as Justin Bieber goes shirtless for Calvin Klein
Yesterday, the fashion world gave us a gift: writer Joan Didion as the face Céline’s Spring 2015 collection. Correct: in a world overrun by thirst, seemingly ageless models and celebrities, and—we’ll get there in a second—troubled pop stars, the French label forewent temptation to pull a cliched PR move and instead appointed an 80-year-old literary […]

Lara Stone and Leighton Meester are L’Oréal’s latest beauty ambassadors
In the name of getting us to be even more enthralled with its products, L’Oréal has announced two new faces to represent its skincare brand, Biotherm, and its all-encompassing beauty brand, L’Oréal Paris.
No stranger to the brand ambassador role, Leighton Meester will grace up and coming Biotherm skincare campaigns starting next year. As reported by WWD, the actress was praised as “a contemporary icon, a young star whose natural talent, energy and beauty have made her the face of a generation,” by the brand’s general manager, Patrick Kullenberg. This is not a beauty first for the Gossip Girl actress: in the past, Meester has been involved with Herbal Essence, Vera Wang and Missoni campaigns.
Over at L’Oréal Paris, Lara Stone ends her post-pregnancy modeling hiatus to become the brand’s newest global spokesmodel. Stone joins seasoned ambassadors including fellow model Doutzen Kroes and actress Freida Pinto. The gap-toothed beauty will be involved in hair care, hair colour and makeup campaigns for the brand. Stone is also no stranger to being the face of a brand, having lent her beauty to campaigns for DKNY, Tom Ford, Calvin Klein and Giorgio Armani, among others.

The skinny on Carine Roitfeld’s multi-lingual magazine/magasin/tijdschrift/revista
Carine Roitfeld has finally let the fashion world in on the nitty-gritty of her new magazine, CR Fashion Book (or CR for short). The magazine will feature Carine’s loopy signature (the one we saw in every issue of Vogue Paris) on the cover and have unconventional sections like “Muses” and “Icons.”
Considering she (maybe) got booted from Vogue for a tres risqué editorial featuring little-girl model Thylane Loubry Blondeau, we’d expect Roitfeld to shake things up. For starters, the magazine will only have spreads and long-format articles. Any front of book shopping, art or event pieces will be put on the website. And even though it’s an English-language magazine, articles will be printed in the author’s native language with translations at the back. Lara Stone writing in Dutch? Pedro Almodóvar in Spanish? It’s an interesting concept to be sure, but we can’t help thinking all the flip-flopping will make us a little dizzy.

They said/We said: Victoria Beckham’s newly released cat-inspired diffusion line has already sold out in London
Victoria Beckham’s newest line with the very James Bond-esque name, Victoria, Victoria Beckham has caused a major fashion ruckus, selling out of Harvey Nichols on its first day in stores.
Inspired by cartoon character Emily the Strange, the line is decidedly mod with ‘60s shifts and Mondrian-worthy colour blocking. The “affordable” collection starts at £395 (which according to our rough calculations is upwards of $600). That’s Carven worthy, people! Yet somehow the steep pricing hasn’t deterred the masses, as there are already waitlists for three dresses, priced at almost $1,000. Canadians have no fear though, the collection is going to be available at Holt Renfrew very soon, and there’s no wait list to report as of today!

SNP’s word of the day: Blackgeoisie
Word: Blackgeoisie
Meaning: A “new” class of African Americans with money and “fashion power.” (Just typing this, I shuddered.)
Usage: “But if in 2012 the “black-geoisie” has integrated all the white codes, it does not [do so] literally. [There] is always a classic twist, with a bourgeois ethnic reference (a batik-printed turban/robe, a shell necklace, a ‘créole de rappeur’) that recalls the roots.” — a French Elle writer named Nathalie Dolivo in “Black Fashion Power”

They said/We said: Kate Middleton snubbed by the British Fashion Council! As if!
Though fashion critics gushed over her wedding dress, thousands flocked to see it in real life, and pieces by designers like Erdem instantly sell out after she’s seen in them, Kate Middleton was overlooked by the British Fashion Council when they announced their shortlist for the 2011 British Style Icon award. As if!
Who was included? Alexa Chung, Lara Stone, Florence Welch, and Victoria Beckham. Sure all of these Brits have It-girl appeal, but none has the extensive coverage surrounding their every outfit as Kate. Outraged by the snub, Telegraph UK encouraged readers to vote on the BFC’s website to include Kate. As of post time, her die-hard fans have spoken and Kate is included in the shortlist.
Ironically, Harper’s Bazaar UK has published their Britain’s 10 best-dressed list today and who else is at the top of the list? Kate, natch. We’re not sure why the duchess was initially left out, but if royal watchers have anything to say about it, she’ll have the award in the bag.
