Last night’s gala at the American Museum of Natural History brought out much of New York City’s social set (including almost the entire cast of Saturday Night Live) but it was Florence Welch and Karlie Kloss who caught our eye, both in stunning floor-length gowns and full sleeves. With the crisp, cold weather settling in for the season, it’s no wonder that full-coverage dresses are getting so much play on the red carpet. (And what better to wear when you’re spending the evening inside an expansive—and likely drafty—museum?)

For the Florence and the Machine singer, it was all about a dreamy metallic look from the Valentino Spring 2014 collection. The sheer dress was made up of layers of tulle, adorned with a patchwork of satin panels and embroidered folkloric designs. Welch completed the look with simple grey pumps and a red box clutch. As for her hair and makeup, a milkmaid braid (very Spring 2012 Valentino, no?) and red lip tied it all together.

Beyoncé, Florence Welch, Jennifer Lopez and others reaffirmed that girls do run the world as they took to the stage at last night’s The Sound of Change concert in London. The show was held to promote Gucci’s Chime for Change charity, of which Beyoncé, Salma Hayek and Gucci creative director Frida Giannini are co-founders.

Beyoncé, who played artistic director for the event, sang and danced through a forty-five minute set to a 50,000-strong crowd at London’s Twickenham Stadium. The star, who was recently crowned an icon on Time’s annual list of 100 Most Influential People and described by Great Gatsby director Baz Luhrmann as the “reigning national voice” of the US, performed some of her most major girl power hits including “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It),” “Run The World (Girls)” and “Grown Woman”. Oh and did we mention that her entire band was female? The not-so-single diva was radiant in a sexy black bodysuit and edgy ankle boots.

Hair colour chameleon Katy Perry has gone for an uncharacteristically natural-looking shade of auburn on the latest cover of French fashion mag, L’Officiel Levant. The pop singer is barely recognizable from the kitschy, candy-coloured looks we’ve grown accustomed to with flowing ginger extensions, a full brow and more-natural-than-usual makeup.

It’s no small feat to stay stylish and festival-ready when Mother Nature decides to cram lightning, torrential rain and paralyzing heat into the space of three short days, but as a whole, Osheaga’s festivalgoers managed to take the unpredictable weather this past weekend fashionably in stride.

Though typical festival garb showed up in full force (think flower crowns, ratty shorts and boho fringe), there was a decidedly more feminine and ‘50s-inspired sartorial lean. From a mint gingham halter dress to a bralette-and-circle-skirt combo, Osheaga’s female attendees somehow managed to strike a Betty-Draper-meets-Pocahontas golden mean, adding in unexpected elements to their femme pieces like an oversized pewter shark tooth or Montauk moccasins.

If you were ever in doubt if Karl Lagerfeld had a verbal filter, his musings in Metro should clear things up. Acting as guest EIC, the designer took to the global newspaper to give his two cents (more like an entire change purse!) on various topics.

Amid the array of outrageous comments, the most shocking is calling Adele “a little too fat.” Lagerfeld has been known to weigh in on body size and has said before that those who criticized models for looking anorexic were fat “chip-eating, jealous mummies”—ironic coming from someone who’s no stranger to being heavy, having lost nearly 100 pounds in 2001.

Adele however, was not the only singer in his latest musings—Lana Del Rey also gets a mention. As well as the Greek economic crisis and Florence Welch, the designer had things to say regarding:

Though fashion critics gushed over her wedding dress, thousands flocked to see it in real life, and pieces by designers like Erdem instantly sell out after she’s seen in them, Kate Middleton was overlooked by the British Fashion Council when they announced their shortlist for the 2011 British Style Icon award. As if!

Who was included? Alexa Chung, Lara Stone, Florence Welch, and Victoria Beckham. Sure all of these Brits have It-girl appeal, but none has the extensive coverage surrounding their every outfit as Kate. Outraged by the snub, Telegraph UK encouraged readers to vote on the BFC’s website to include Kate. As of post time, her die-hard fans have spoken and Kate is included in the shortlist.

Ironically, Harper’s Bazaar UK has published their Britain’s 10 best-dressed list today and who else is at the top of the list? Kate, natch. We’re not sure why the duchess was initially left out, but if royal watchers have anything to say about it, she’ll have the award in the bag.

The term “titian” refers to a natural, though not usual, shade of red found in hair—famously created by the artist. He loved redheaded honeys like nobody’s business.
