Barneys New York features transgendered models in a series of beautiful spring ads
As calls for diversity increasingly infiltrate the fashion industry, it seems like major brands are finally starting to take note. So far, this season has seen a wheelchair-bound model front at Diesel and an increased racial mix at Prada.
The latest to break the mould for Spring 2014 is luxury retailer Barneys New York, whom debuted its “Brothers, Sisters, Sons & Daughters” campaign today, which features 17 transgendered people from all walks of life. Shot by legendary boundary-pusher Bruce Weber in New York City, the subjects, often posing with their loved ones, are confident and stylish in the high-end likes of Ann Demeulemeester, Saint Laurent outfits and more.
In one of the first four photos released, we meet Arin Andrews and Katie Hill, transgendered friends and a former couple both raised in the conservative Bible Belt of America. In another, Ahya Taylor is pictured with fellow model Dezjorn Gauthier on a Central Park bench, both wearing Balenciaga.

David Bowie’s gender bending new video co-stars Tilda Swinton, Andrej Pejic, Saskia de Brauw and Iselin Steiro
Leave it to David Bowie to, once again, redefine cool in less than six minutes. Ahead of his first new album in a decade, The Next Day, the Thin White Duke has released his latest single “The Stars (are out tonight)” along with an epically stylized new video which co-stars Tilda Swinton, Andrej Pejic, Saskia […]

Andrej Pejic is getting a reality show
Finally, a reality show we’re actually excited for! Reps for Andrej Pejic, the world’s most famous androgynous, gender-bending model (and our February cover star), have finally confirmed the blonde stunner’s forthcoming reality show, which will trail Pejic for weeks as he performs normal model duties. In an email to Fashionista, DNA Models (Pejic’s New York […]

Andrej Pejic in hot water after using the “N” word on Twitter
It seems Andrej Pejic can’t stay away from controversy for too long. The It model is raising brows yet again, but this time, it’s not because of a gender-bending editorial; he’s ticked off a lot of people by tweeting the “N” word.
Oh No They Didn’t posted a screengrab of the brow-raising tweet, which provoked an outpour of offended commenters who were not impressed by Pejic’s unapologetic attitude (the tweet has not been deleted).
What was he thinking? Well, the tweet was in reference to his viral YouTube video—a parody of a transvestite dating profile from the LES looking for “a real white n****.”

They said/We said: Miss Universe Canada pulls finalist after discovering she is transgender
Miss Universe Canada has disqualified a “real girl” on the grounds of…well…not being a “real girl.” In a circular, confusing and seriously offensive series of events, Miss Universe Canada pulled transgender finalist Jenna Talackova from the competition on the basis that she didn’t meet competition rules.
CTV is reporting that though the application states contestants must be between the ages of 18-27 and Canadian, it says nothing about cosmetic surgery. Not according to Miss Universe Canada’s national director, Denis Davila, who said that the rules state each contestant must be a “naturally born female” and that Talackova lied about that on her registration form.
Though beauty pageants have never been known for their progressive thinking (or even thinking for that matter), this seems especially antiquated; we’re in an age of Andrej Pejic acting as the new Cindy Crawford and Lea T starring in Givenchy campaigns. We will say though, that it’s somewhat heartening to consider how strongly the mainstream media has rallied around Talackova and her cause.

They said/ We said: Jennifer Lopez covers the latest issue of V, package in hand
Jennifer Lopez’ cover on V magazine has everyone buzzing, and not because of her contentious Oscar nip-slip (did it or didn’t it?). Rather, it’s the singer from the block’s get-up that has piqued people’s interest or more specifically, her generously padded jockstrap.
The androgynous cover—photographed and styled by tag team Mario Testino and Carine Roitfeld, respectively—has J.Lo looking one part Million Dollar Baby and one part Balenciaga Pre-Fall 2012.
Frankly, we’re not surprised. Though the aesthetic may be lacking the Parisian elegance Roitfeld is known for, she’s never been one to pass up some good controversy (remember this?). Natch, a bulging jockstrap would just be too much for her to turn down.
The cover comes after a recent push from the fashion industry towards gender-bending (think: Lea T, Andrej Pejic, Kate Moss). And with exciting covers like this coming out we hope the push continues for a long time.

Quotable: Andrej Pejic will play a man and a woman who are the object of affection of a man and a woman
Andrej Pejic is set to join the ranks of model-turned actors Agyness Deyn and Milla Jovivich in an upcoming film adaptation of Honoré de Balzac’s novel Séraphita. The leggy blond is predicted to play the namesake androgynous character. With its many love triangles, the story has our heads in a bit of a tangle. Thank […]

Update: Andrej Pejic confirmed as the new face of Jean Paul Gaultier’s men’s fragrance
When we reported that Andrej Pejic was in talks to star in a fragrance campaign, we had an inkling that the pouty-lipped wonder would be matched up with Jean Paul Gaultier. As it turns out, we were right on the money. WWD has confirmed that Pejic will be the face of Gaultier’s men’s fragrance Korkorico (that’s French for cock-a-doodle-doo, folks).

Montreal Fashion Week: The shows kick off with an androgynous ode at Marie Saint Pierre, an Andrej Pejic–inspired runway appearance at DUY and more
I started Montreal Fashion Week with a major misstep; I missed the Tavãn & Mitto show. But Dressed to Kill’s EIC, Stéphane Le Duc, raved about T&M’s expert cuts and the luxurious repositioning of the brand—also how they’re going to sell exclusively from their boutique. It’s an interesting move that seems in line with the city’s growing niche market of quality and made-to-measure garments. As for the clothes, I’ll let the photos speak for themselves.
Hours before, I had received an early-bird Tweet from stylist Cary Tauben that he’d be styling DUY’s runway. “Get ready for a couture show,” he wrote, dropping a few crumbs about a “surprise.” Indeed, Duy Nguyen delivered a very haute-lifting experience. The Parisienne Madame focus was clear; the rich urban palette was solid. The “surprise” was Tauben himself, who—in an obvious Andrej Pejic–inspired move—strut his bare, model-esque legs beneath a fur-collared coat down the stage to rippling applause.

They said/We said: The latest rumour about modeling sensation Andrej Pejic
What’s our favourite androgynous model Andrej Pejic to do after ruling the runway, posing in push-up bras, and landing our February cover? Why, a fragrance campaign, of course! It seems the beauty, who is giving the ladies and gents of the runway a run for their money, has no signs of slowing down. He may soon be the fresh face of a perfume.
A French TF1 Channel called Sept a Huit aired a taping of behind-the-scenes action with Pejic, documenting the model in fittings and rehearsals for Jean Paul Gaultier’s Fall 2012 menswear show and Michalksy womenswear show in Berlin, in which the commentator exposed via voice-over that Pejic “will sign, in several weeks, his first contract to lend his image to a major perfume brand.”
Which campaign will the fashion chameleon grace? No word on the label quite yet. However, Pejic’s affiliation with Gaultier makes us wonder if he’s a candidate for the (mens? womens? unisex?) fragrance.
Then again, Pejic was featured in the (always edgy) Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring 2011 campaign which was a brilliant fit, (Dakota Fanning better cling to her Lola bottle!) and Louis Vuitton still hasn’t announced who will be the face of its new fragrance. The options seem endless for fashion’s latest obsession.
We may not know much about the campaign yet, but we do know one thing: Pejic is bound to produce stellar pictures (as always) and we’ll be waiting on the edges of our seats to see them!
