Mejuri x Jenna Lyons is the Must-Have Collab for Minimalists
Mejuri and Jenna Lyons are a match made in minimalist heaven. Lyons herself was a 2010s tastemaker, and as J. Crew’s president and executive creative director, her personal style was the beating heart of the American retailer until her departure in 2017. Approachable yet sophisticated, Lyons’ wardrobe blurred the lines between casualwear and formalwear (I […]

Instagram Makeup vs. “No Makeup” Makeup: We Explore the Politics of Beauty
Years ago I worked at a television station, and the weirdest part of my job was seeing older male newscasters wandering the halls in full TV pancake makeup as they waited to go on the air. Foundation clung to their usually invisible facial hair, making them look like they were covered in faint yellow fur. […]

Why we buy the same thing over and over: The science behind your closet of repeat offenders
The 5 items our staff buys over and over »
In Breakfast at Tiffany’s, we first meet an elegant if forlorn Holly Golightly peering into the windows of Tiffany & Co. She’s wearing sunglasses and a long black dress. Fast-forward a few scenes and we see her scrambling to get ready for a meeting, hastily slipping her lithe frame into a little black dress. And in the penultimate scene, she leaves the police station for a flight to Brazil and changes into—you guessed it—a black dress. We never actually see Holly’s closet, but it seems pretty plausible that there are at least a few more black dresses in there. She may be a fictional character, but Holly Golightly’s tendency to amass multiple versions of the same item is a classic case of art imitating life. When I moved out of my apartment in December, my boyfriend packed up my bedroom and marvelled at how many pairs of dark blue skinny jeans I own. “There’s your hoard of denim,” he said, pointing to a large, overflowing suitcase (it needed to be expanded to accommodate them all). I’ve personally declared a moratorium on my mother purchasing any more navy-blue suits, and a friend recently made me vow to step in if she tries to buy another pair of black flats. Even Jenna Lyons admits to having an entire rack of white shirts in her closet. So why, even with shelves of blue jeans, closets full of navy suits and countless pairs of black ballerinas, do we keep buying more?

Street Style, New York: We spot Jenna Lyons, Miroslava Duma, Olivia Palermo and more outside the Fall 2014 shows
While many of us spent the weekend huddled inside watching the Sochi action, New York Fashion Week kept editors, bloggers and fashion lovers out and about in the cold for the Fall 2014 shows. With all the commuting between venues—from Manhattan to Brooklyn and back again—cozy outerwear and slush-proof footwear was essential.
Fur continues to be a huge trend outside the tents, with everything from bright-blue faux to ’70s shearling to a mod Isabel Marant racoon coat being snapped by our street style photographer, Stefania Yarhi. Eva Chen kept things light and youthful in a super fluffy snowman-esque coat and rainbow-metallic kicks, while Jenna Lyons effortlessly worked the quirky mismatched-yet-tailored style she pioneered.

All new Gap: Inside the retailer’s Spring 2014 collection with powerhouse creative director Rebekka Bay
See the Gap Spring 2014 lookbook »
There’s nothing the fashion world loves more than a new style muse and when Gap hired Rebekka Bay as its creative director last year, our sartorial spidey senses went into overdrive. The mastermind behind upscale H&M sister brand COS, the soft-spoken Danish designer has already achieved cult standing among editors, bloggers and cool kids alike for her sophisticated approach to modern minimalist dressing.
Spring 2014 marks Bay’s first collection with Gap, and if insider reactions at the presentation in New York back in October were any indication, she hasn’t lost her Midas touch. Featuring a summer-ready lineup of acid-wash jeans, bleached pastels and perfectly slouchy sweatshirts, her spring collection is a lust-worthy first look at a re-imagined Gap and a new American style that’s refreshing, relaxed and seriously cool. We sat down with the newly minted creative director after her spring presentation to talk icons, Americana and giving Gap its mojo back.

We’re deep into New York Fashion Week Spring 2014 and the sidewalks are officially stacked with the biggest names in fashion—-Solange! Hanne! Giovanna! Put all those fashionistas together and you get a sidewalk-turned-runway full of inspirational, colourful, and sometimes outlandish clothing.
Being total ‘90s children, all the grunge styling had Nirvana on repeat in our heads for the third season running. Plaid and denim were featured in everything from Canadian tuxedos (what what!) to jumpsuits to ankle length denim skirts. So totally ‘90s!. Leather showed up on track pants, dresses, and the sleeves of the most covet-worthy trench of all time. Even The Newsroom’s Emily Mortimer was wearing leather Jason Wu get-up.
