What Biotherm Is Doing to Help Our Oceans, Which Are in Crisis
Back in July, footage of trash floating atop normally crystal blue waves and onto the shores of Montesinos Beach in the Dominican Republic was released by a group of conservationists who called it a “dense garbage carpet.” The sight of plastic bottles and takeout containers mingling with seaweed illustrated the critical condition our oceans are […]

Why Has Getting the Best Sleep Possible Now Become an Obsession?
“There is no sunrise so beautiful that it is worth waking me up to see it.” The now-famous quote from Mindy Kaling’s 2011 book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns), found itself meme-ified when the book was released, and seven years later, it’s still tweeted almost daily. Personally, I love sunrises, but […]

5 body treatment creams that’ll make you feel less blah after the holidays
It’s all too easy to go overboard this time of year. We mean, there seems to be a Christmas cookie, sugary cocktail, and lavish feast around every corner. And hey, we’re not complaining. In fact, we’ve greatly enjoyed every single glazed sweet, boozy drink and almighty dinner that comes our way. But our bodies somewhat […]

[Sponsored] Fresh-faced for spring: 6 Beauty Panel tips for refreshing your skin
Is spring finally here? While we may still be hoping for weather that lets us ditch our wintery layers, there’s nothing stopping us from getting our skin ready for the season. In practice, it may actually be smarter to get a head start on your spring skincare routine: new products always take a week or two to start working and frankly, it’s nice to wake up and start the day with light, fresh layers of skincare products and makeup. Dress for the weather you want, not the weather you have, right?
Well, this week, the Beauty Panel partnered up with Biotherm to do just that. Our beauty blogging experts spent the last month testing the Biotherm Aquasource skincare line, all in a quest to uncover the best way to get a fresh-faced look for spring. While makeup can certainly brighten any look, having a great base—your skin!—makes all the difference. It’s the reason why both fresh skin and the no-makeup makeup look made the list of our top beauty trends for Spring 2014. Makeup artists like Pat McGrath and Diane Kendal spent their time backstage prepping models’ skin with masques, serums, BB creams and moisturizers, which resulted in truly fresh-faced looks on the runway.
Challenge 61: How do you use Biotherm Aquasource to get a fresh-faced look for spring? See the answers now! »

I’ve tried to use cake eyeliner before but it never says put. Any tips on application?
Cake eyeliner is a delightfully tidy alternative to its liquid counterparts, and it can be particularly useful for working into your lash line to fake some volume and lusciousness. I don’t necessarily have application tips, but rather an alternative suggestion of what to dampen your cake liner with. If you’ve been using water, you have probably discovered that the finding the perfect ratio can be a challenge: too much water obviously compromises how pigmented the liner will be upon application. However, Laura Mercier Tightline Activator ($25, sephora.ca) is a tiny dropper bottle of fluid that contains polymers that are designed to help your cake liner adhere and stay put on your inner eyelid rims. A drop or two of this fluid will transform any cake liner into a long-lasting look. -
Lara Stone and Leighton Meester are L’Oréal’s latest beauty ambassadors
In the name of getting us to be even more enthralled with its products, L’Oréal has announced two new faces to represent its skincare brand, Biotherm, and its all-encompassing beauty brand, L’Oréal Paris.
No stranger to the brand ambassador role, Leighton Meester will grace up and coming Biotherm skincare campaigns starting next year. As reported by WWD, the actress was praised as “a contemporary icon, a young star whose natural talent, energy and beauty have made her the face of a generation,” by the brand’s general manager, Patrick Kullenberg. This is not a beauty first for the Gossip Girl actress: in the past, Meester has been involved with Herbal Essence, Vera Wang and Missoni campaigns.
Over at L’Oréal Paris, Lara Stone ends her post-pregnancy modeling hiatus to become the brand’s newest global spokesmodel. Stone joins seasoned ambassadors including fellow model Doutzen Kroes and actress Freida Pinto. The gap-toothed beauty will be involved in hair care, hair colour and makeup campaigns for the brand. Stone is also no stranger to being the face of a brand, having lent her beauty to campaigns for DKNY, Tom Ford, Calvin Klein and Giorgio Armani, among others.

Not all faux glows are created equal. Here’s our self tanning how-to guide to get you through summer the healthy way
By Malena Harbers
Today, it’s all about customizing your tan,” says skin-care expert Nichola Joss, who created a variety of caramel tones for models at the Spring 2012 shows of British designers such as Issa and House of Holland. Designed to work with the spirit of each collection, Joss’s handiwork illustrates the idea that one hue indeed does not fit all. By adding, omitting or changing the way you apply a product, you can create a completely different-looking tan. Here, we break down the shades.
