Why Vitamin C Continues to Be a Powerhouse for Glowing Skin
Vitamin C is one of the most well known and researched skincare actives, capable of helping to bolster collagen production, dim dark spots and make skin more vibrant. “It’s a skin powerhouse,” says Beth Bialko, director of global curriculum at Dermalogica and The International Dermal Institute. And while it’s obviously not new, it continues to […]

Everything You Need to Know About Collagen-boosting Skin Treatments
I have a love-hate relationship with Snapchat. I struggle to navigate the interface (much like my mother battles with copy and paste). There is one selfie filter, however, that fascinates me: It enlarges my eyes, slims my face and makes my skin creamier. It brightens my cheeks, fades the laugh lines around my eyes and […]

Beauty Fix: A powder foundation ideal for darker skintones, ways to soothe itchy skin and more

Can you suggest a powder foundation formula that’s suitable for darker skintones?
Powder foundations haven’t always been the most suitable format for darker skintones, usually because traditional formulations contained talc. When applied to darker skintones, talc can create a grayish cast that looks unflattering and unnatural. Ask anyone with a medium-deep to deep skintone and they’ll likely tell you that they’ve long avoided powder foundation—until recently, that ia! CoverFX Pressed Mineral Foundation ($35, murale.ca) is a talc-free pressed powder foundation that feels virtually creamy when applied since it’s so finely milled Even better, it comes in 24 shades split by undertones of golden, neutral and pink, ensuring that all skintones will find a suitable, non-ashy match. -

I always find statement lips pretty for Valentine’s Day, but when it comes to kissing… not so practical! How else can I rock a romantic look?
Statement lips definitely have a time and a place, , but if your Valentine’s Day plans include getting intimate they’re better saved for another night out. A perfectly understated yet glowing alternative is a soft pink cheek. Use Clarins Multi-Blush Cream Compact in “Rosewood” ($30, thebay.com) to lightly define and contour, blending onto cheekbones and sweeping through contours of cheeks with a synthetic brush. This cream blush has light-reflecting technology that allows it to function as a super-subtle highlight when applied on cheekbones and it also doubles as a lip colour if you desire a monochromatic look! For extra oomph, set the cream blush with a dusting of Clarins Opalescence Poudre Teint & Blush ($40, thebay.com), a holographic compact that contains a pink beige powder accented with coral and brown—which results in a natural blush that brightens the face without any chance of overpowering. No need to fear blush when it’s this flattering!

Gifts for mom: 8 unique ways to spend Mother’s Day together
See all 8 ways to spend Mother’s Day together »
Ah, mom. Is there anyone else in your life who deserves a full day of wonderful things? With Mother’s Day on the horizon (May 12, mark it in your calendars!) now is the time to plan how you’ll spend that special Sunday. This year, go beyond the traditional Mother’s Day brunch or mani/pedi appointment. We’ve come up with eight unique ways to spend the day—or the entire weekend—together with your mom.
If your mother is a gardener, spend Mother’s Day weekend outside and, as an added bonus, have her teach you some of her green thumb-making skills. Of course, you’ll need flowers and plants to practice on, which is why we suggest taking a trip together to the Toronto Flower Market. Another way to get your hands dirty (in the best way possible) is to take your mother to at a clay class at the Gardiner Museum. (Moms who came of age in the ’70s will especially appreciate the return to the pottery wheel!)

Not all faux glows are created equal. Here’s our self tanning how-to guide to get you through summer the healthy way
By Malena Harbers
Today, it’s all about customizing your tan,” says skin-care expert Nichola Joss, who created a variety of caramel tones for models at the Spring 2012 shows of British designers such as Issa and House of Holland. Designed to work with the spirit of each collection, Joss’s handiwork illustrates the idea that one hue indeed does not fit all. By adding, omitting or changing the way you apply a product, you can create a completely different-looking tan. Here, we break down the shades.

Afternoon beauty fix: Face looking and feeling blah? Here are 2 ways to cheer up dull skin!
The skin on my face has been looking rather “blah” lately—what can I do to brighten things up?
Nothing like the tail end of winter to really make us feel—and see!—what months of grey skies and flip-flopping weather does to our skin. Instead of having a dewy glow from an afternoon of bicycling through the city, indoor hibernation makes us prone to getting pillow-marked cheeks.
