Beauty Fix: How to melt (yes, melt) your makeup off, the ingredient that’ll save your dry skin + more
I wear a lot of long-wearing makeup formulas, so what’s the best way to get them all off? If long-wear makeup is your thing, then using an oil-based cleanser should also be in your daily routine. How can I make sure my facial flush lasts when I’m poolside or beachside?
Making makeup last in heat is a challenge every summer. Making makeup last in situation involving heat and water definitely calls for heavy artillery. When water gets involved, definitely opt for more sweat- and water-resistant products, like Cargo Swimmables Blush in “Bali” ($29, murale.ca). This formula will stay in place come high humidity or splashes of water due to silicone-coated powder that adheres to skin better, which means you’ll look glowing and radiant. This soft pink shade in particular is very natural looking and provides such an effortless flush, making it a blush you’ll be reaching for all summer and well into the fall.

I always find statement lips pretty for Valentine’s Day, but when it comes to kissing… not so practical! How else can I rock a romantic look?
Statement lips definitely have a time and a place, , but if your Valentine’s Day plans include getting intimate they’re better saved for another night out. A perfectly understated yet glowing alternative is a soft pink cheek. Use Clarins Multi-Blush Cream Compact in “Rosewood” ($30, thebay.com) to lightly define and contour, blending onto cheekbones and sweeping through contours of cheeks with a synthetic brush. This cream blush has light-reflecting technology that allows it to function as a super-subtle highlight when applied on cheekbones and it also doubles as a lip colour if you desire a monochromatic look! For extra oomph, set the cream blush with a dusting of Clarins Opalescence Poudre Teint & Blush ($40, thebay.com), a holographic compact that contains a pink beige powder accented with coral and brown—which results in a natural blush that brightens the face without any chance of overpowering. No need to fear blush when it’s this flattering!

I bought a bright blush on a whim and it’s much more pigmented than I thought. How do I apply it?
Working with intense pigmentation can involve a bit of a learning curve, especially if you’re used to a more forgiving formula. When dealing with a mega pigmented blush, such as a mighty magenta shade like Nars Blush in “Coeur Battant” ($32, narscosmetics.com), it all boils down to how you apply the product. Take your blush brush and tap it very lightly in the blush and tap it lightly on the back of your hand to remove a bit of the pigment. Now you can apply the blush to your face as you usually would. Step back and evaluate the colour payoff and repeat this process until you’re pleased with the outcome. The idea here is that it’s easier to gradually add colour to the face instead of inundating your cheeks with a bold shade that would overwhelm your whole look.

Now that hot summer days are only a distant memory, our skin is taking a major hit. I have some dark spots and minor imperfections that I want to treat and cover up. How can I go about doing this?
Dark spots, hyperpigmentation, acne scars, dark circles, fine lines… everyone has something they’d like to diminish while hiding it! Thankfully, recent innovations have resulted in plenty of multitasking products that help treat and hide pigmentation problems. Take a look at Lancôme Teint Visionnaire Skin Correcting Makeup ($60, sephora.ca), which is a two-step makeup that involves a liquid skin-correcting foundation and a spot-correcting concealer in the lid. The foundation formula contains molecules that penetrate through multiple skin layers to correct wrinkles, pores, UV damage and acne marks. The concealer, which is colour-matched to the foundation, contains vitamin C to lighten dark spots while providing full coverage wherever you desire it. Bonus: you can toss the concealer portion of the bottle in your bag for touch-ups on the go! -

Are there any products out there that actually do get rid of cellulite? Or even the appearance of it?
This is a very common question that I’m certain many women want to know the answer to, especially this time of year. To put it simply, there is no technical way to get rid of cellulite. There are products and methods that can reduce the appearance of cellulite, but nothing will magically make cellulite disappear. I know, I know, that’s a lot of real talk to take in. That being said, working to reduce the appearance of cellulite is always worth a shot, right? Start in the shower by using Bliss FatGirlSlim Soap ($22, sephora.com), which is a nubby soap bar that contains caffeine, peppermint and grapefruit extracts to stimulate circulation and jojoba beads to exfoliate skin. Follow up with Clarins High Definition Body Lift ($68, sephora.com), a body treatment lotion that contains caffeine and patent-pending breakthrough ingredients Celosia Cristata Extract and Aquatic Mint Extract, which are plant extracts that target fatty tissue from developing cellulite in the first place. Ultimately, stimulation of the area is essential to tackling cellulite woes.
