What’s the Deal With All The New Mascara Primers?
Remember when mascara with primers included first hit drugstore shelves, with their dual-ended wands featuring white on one end and black on the other? Well, mascara primer on its own has been steadily making a stealth comeback, with brands launching new iterations of this not-so-new way of boosting lash volume. While the O.G. version was […]

Lady Gaga’s Met Gala Beauty Secret Was an Unreleased Marc Jacobs Moisturizer
Believe it or not, there was one thing about Lady Gaga’s look last night at the Met Gala that epitomized restraint. When it came down to makeup application, underneath those whisker-like metallic lashes and stick-on jewels, Gaga’s longtime makeup artist, Sarah Tanno, held back from using foundation to let her secret weapon work its magic: […]

How Coconut Became Summer’s Signature Scent
In 1965, high-school chemistry teacher Ron Rice managed to score a free ticket to Hawaii. There, he ventured to the back side of the islands, where, as an outsider, he recalls not being welcome. “I was kind of taking a chance with my life,” he says over the phone from Daytona Beach, Fla. But, as […]

Marc Jacobs’s Daisy Love Is Malibu Beach and Sun-Warmed Skin in a Bottle
Daisy Love, the latest sequel to Marc Jacobs’s Daisy, is Beach Blanket Bingo in a bottle. “Actually, the inspiration was California—Malibu’s beaches,” says master perfumer Alberto Morillas about his third incarnation of the original. “It’s very American.” While the first Daisy is pastoral, verdant and meadowy—conjuring The Virgin Suicides girls in gauzy dresses lying around […]

Why you need to stop overlooking skinny mascaras
In the world of mascara, everyone seems to be way more consumed with achieving the fullest, fattest, most OTT lashes possible. Wands continue to grow bigger, spikier, bushier, promising the ultimate, the extreme, the most anemia-defying fringe that will fake out everyone into not believing they’re real. But there’s something to be said for going […]

I love under-eye concealer, but I’m worried about the reverse raccoon look showing up in photos. Help?
The most common culprit of the dreaded reverse raccoon look is a concealer that’s light-reflective. Sure, it’s great for bouncing light into the darker undereye area, but less so in flash photography as it can reflect back the light in a pretty extreme way. A more natural finish is your best bet to skirt this issue. Instead, try a satin finish, like Marc Jacobs Beauty Re(Marc)able Full Cover Concealer ($38, sephora.ca). This conceraler will provide you with coverage that looks just as flattering in photos as it does in person and the formula is nourishing for skin, containing shea butter and coconut extract. Bonus: the pinky-peach undertones of the concealer act as a brightener and concealer in one, giving you a two-in-one effect in a single product.
