These Are the Very Best New Sunscreens of 2021
You already know that unless you’re nowhere near a window at any point during the day (in which case, please seek some light?!) you should still be wearing SPF daily, even if you’re indoors. But while you may have formerly put up with some less-than-ideal sunscreen formulations when we were out and about (remember being […]

The AI Skincare Programs That Want to Diagnose Your Skin
Last week, an email popped up in my inbox about Vichy Canada’s new SkinConsultAI system, a tool that allows women to upload a selfie to the brand’s website and—in case magnified mirrors weren’t harsh enough—have “under-eye wrinkles, lack of firmness, fine lines, lack of radiance, dark spots, deep wrinkles and pores” be pointed out to them. […]

5 Refreshing Summer Body Washes For When It’s Hot As Hell Outside
While a scorching Canadian summer may seem eons away right now, the reality is that the current pleasant temperatures we’ve been experiencing won’t be around for long. About That Time A Derm Sliced Off My Skin In The Name Of Science
When you’re a long-time beauty editor, asking strangers, “How old do I look, exactly?” is more than a weird icebreaker; it’s a legit topic for serious scientific inquiry. So when I was invited by Olay to visit Harvard Medical School for a blunt assessment of how gracefully (or not) I’m aging—via a seriously thorough analysis […]

Why Taking Selfies Can Actually Damage Your Skin
The first thing I do when I wake up is check my phone for texts—just in case I suddenly got popular overnight. Then I scroll through the day’s headlines and my Insta feed. Next, I peruse Apple Music to find the perfect soundtrack to my morning routine before tapping up an Uber to take me […]

In defence of choosing drugstore beauty brands over high-end names (sometimes)
With overseas brands forging their way onto our faces, and luxury beauty making a case for everything elegant, our wallets are usually left depleted and depressed. And while splurging on the occasional high-priced serum is warranted, we can’t help but wonder what would be of our wallets if we saved those funds for, oh we […]

I’m looking for a new beauty look this season. What’s the eye makeup trend to try this summer?
While summer can be a minimal makeup moment for many, it’s also a great opportunity to experiment with summer makeup trends. The sun is shining, so seize the moment and inject some colour into your look. If bright shades are a bit bold for your taste, pastels offer a dose of colour without overwhelming any particular feature of your face. Add the Bobbi Brown Surf Palette ($75, at Bobbi Brown counters) to your arsenal for a mélange of different textures and finishes to play with, such as soft aqua blue, green and shimmery pink shades, complemented by warm-toned neutral shades to ground any look from becoming too Easter-inspired. -

How can I jumpstart repairing my damaged hair?
If you’ve overprocessed your hair to high heaven, it’s time to step away from the bleach, dyes and heat styling tools and let your hair recuperate. Hair takes time to bounce back from damage, but you can help expedite the process by using an intensive mask, such as L’Oréal Paris Total Repair Extreme Ultra-Concentrated Urgent Repair Care ($3, at drugstores). This single tube contains a week of reparative treatment loaded with lactic acid and lipid-rich ceramides to target and strengthen particularly weakened areas of the hair. Simply apply after shampoo and conditioner and then rinse out, making this a handy shortcut to healthier hair! -

How do I protect my hair from sun damage? I can’t really live in a hat all summer.
Hat hair is so not the look, but sun protection definitely is! It’s important to protect ourselves from UV damage year-round, but in the summer, our hair can take a serious thrashing. Excessive sun exposure without protection can fade hair colour and make hair dry and brittle. Step up your UV game with the L’Oréal Professionnel Série Expert Solar Sublime range ($20-29, lorealprofessionnel.com), which is a shampoo, conditioner and leave-in conditioning spray that all contain Mexoryl. This ingredient is a UV filter that forms a protective film around hair fibres to make your hair more resilient to sun exposure. A necessary addition to your sun protection arsenal this summer! -
