What’s in your bag, Diamond Rings?
See what’s inside Diamond Rings’ bag »
With his slick pop sounds, his platinum shaved pompadour and his larger than life stage presence; Diamond Rings (John O’Regan IRL) is arguably Canada’s coolest artist. For those who have witnessed his greatness on stage, well, you get it. Those who haven’t? Just have a listen to his latest album Free Dimensional and you will too. Released last October, the 10-track synth offering is the surest sign that he’s made the big time, with the help of producer Damian Taylor, who has previously worked with Björk, The Killers and The Prodigy. His single, “I’m Just Me” screams anthem with every beat. To boot, his performed it on both The Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Not bad for a guy who used to create whole albums from his bedroom.

Beauty magnified: Examining Lanvin’s strong yet simple Fall 2012 runway look
See how the Lanvin Fall 2012 hair and makeup was done »
Alber Elbaz celebrated his 10th anniversary at Lanvin with a collection for Fall 2012 that featured bold colour, feminine silhouettes and loads of embellishment. The Lanvin beauty team—which included hairstylist Guido Palau and makeup artist Pat McGrath—accented the look with thickly lined eyes and soft hair. The result was a strong yet simple look: complexions were clean and glowing, the hair had a subtle bend and mouths were lightly dabbed with lip balm. Pat McGrath made this beauty statement all about the eyes. Inspired by the idea of a pen and ink illustration, she drew an exaggerated black wing that covered the lid and extended out. Read on as we examine the runway look for Lanvin Fall 2012 in full, complete with tips, tricks and the five products you need to try the hair and makeup at home.

Wedding day hair: We follow a bride-to-be on her hunt for a marriage-worthy style
Long before she said yes to the dress (or the oyster bar), bride-to-be Carley Fortune had a much more important decision to make: what to do with her hair.
By Carley Fortune
Last December, my boyfriend of seven years proposed, and we began planning an October wedding. I’d never daydreamed about my wedding day, and I took a pretty laid-back approach to the preparations, except for one minor detail—the hair. You see, my hair is my thing.
I remember flipping to the class survey results when the yearbooks were handed out in Grade 12. Among the winners for Most Popular and Best Athlete, as voted by the graduating class, was my name: Carley Fortune, Best Hair. I loved fashion when I was a teenager, too, but I was overweight, and tending to my hair was one way I felt I could experiment with style and trends. So I hot-rollered and braided, and twisted and crimped.

Spring beauty report 2012: Rainbow bright
By Lesa Hannah and Sarah Daniel
Bold, statement-making lips have legs: Witness the tomato-red mouth topped with neon orange powder pigment at Jason Wu, the eight acidic shades at Mary Katrantzou and the magenta mouth with a darkened centre at Prabal Gurung, meant to look like “an orchid coming out of the lips,” says makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury. Whatever the hue or texture, what’s important is that it makes a major impact. But this season, colour wasn’t confined to the face; it migrated to the head. It was first spied at Thakoon, where hairstylist Odile Gilbert applied powdered clay, either dry or mixed with water, to models’ heads in a nod to Holi. Then at Narciso Rodriguez, coiffeur Eugene Souleiman spray-painted conical twists in one of five temporary colours. Three weeks later, Souleiman was at it again at Issey Miyake, referencing the flowers in the collection with tinted, tulip-shaped hairstyles. We especially liked the ones that resembled Triple Rockets popsicles.

Afternoon beauty fix: Curlers are not just for your grandma
Every time I attempt to style my hair in an interesting way it backfires—I either look like a prom queen or my hair becomes way too greasy from all the product I use. What can I do differently?
