This French Stylist Wore a White Shirt to Her Wedding

Yet the French creative director and stylist Lolita Jacobs has sparked in me an unprecedented wedding interest…and envy. A few weeks ago, Jacobs wed Jean-Baptiste Talbourdet-Napoleone, creative director of M Le Magazine du Monde, in St. Tropez, the […]

Critics’ Choice Awards 2014: Our top 10 red carpet picks
See the Critics Choice Awards 2014 Red Carpet photos »
Awards season is underway and it seems that every other night there is a star-studded gala, benefit or awards show to ogle. We’re not complaining. Last night, it was the Critics’ Choice Awards in Santa Monica, and our favourite celebs didn’t disappoint on the red carpet. A mix of new faces and fashion vets make up our best dressed list keeping things fresh with pops of colour and new silhouettes.
Breakout Wolf of Wall Street star Margot Robbie was a certified babe in a black lace-trimmed jumpsuit from red carpet favourite Elie Saab’s Spring 2014 collection. Pants are still considered unconventional on the red carpet, but this Aussie killed. On the flip side, 12 Years a Slave star Lupita Nyong’o went with a stunning white cut-out Calvin Klein Collection dress and clutch, later accessorized with the award for Best Supporting Actress. Team Lupita FTW.
Some of our favourite faces shone on the red carpet in a pleasant colour array. Meryl Streep went for a bedazzled navy blue Stella McCartney dress, while Best Actress in a Drama winner Sandra Bullock opted for a rich burgundy custom Lanvin dress, which she finished off with a classic Roger Vivier buckle clutch and Fred Leighton jewels. Both Oprah Winfrey and Julia Louis-Dreyfus showed how to work green in their own unique way—the Queen of talk shows in a cinched dark green Azzedine Alaïa gown and Dreyfus in a Reem Acra knee-length cocktail dress.

Grammys 2013: 10 of the best dressed singers and starlets on the red carpet
See the 10 best dressed looks from the 2013 Grammys »
Despite a memo from CBS warning stars to cover up, there was still much skin to be seen on the 2013 Grammy Awards red carpet. Most notable was Katy Perry, who stunned in a mint-green Gucci Resort 2013 dress that was skin-tight and featured an embellished keyhole detail which showed off her ample cleavage. Perry’s look was part Priscilla Presley, part Lana Del Rey and she certainly pulled off the ’70s-inspired style well.
Solange Knowles also wore green, though her beaded Ralph & Russo Couture gown was more of a vibrant emerald hue. Solange is known for her quirky and colourful outfits and her neon-pink Louboutins added personality to her look. Solange’s dress featured a thigh-high slit—a style that was seen on a number of starts last night at the 2013 Grammys. (Clearly Angie’s right leg is still dictating red carpet trends!) Jennifer Lopez took the slit to the next level with an Anthony Vaccarello Spring 2013 gown that seemed to almost tuck in like a pair of hot pants at the top of her thigh. The asymmetrical draped black silk gown certainly showed off her toned body and was set off with shiny gold accessories—and a matching pointy gold manicure.
Black and white was definitely a trend at the 2013 Grammys, as it was for the Golden Globes and SAG Awards red carpet. Beyoncé wore both black and white in an architectural jumpsuit by Osman. The somewhat casual-yet-still-smoking look was certainly one of a kind on the red carpet and Beyoncé accessorized with black and white cuffs and a red pout. Our former cover girl Carly Rae Jepsen wowed in a dark, metallic Roberto Cavalli gown. The mermaid silhouette looked amazing with her dark hair, porcelain skin and enviable body. Carrie Underwood also wore a black strapless mermaid silhouette gown by Roberto Cavalli—though where Jepsen’s was beaded, Underwood’s dress featured lace and embroidery.

Azzedine Alaïa set to launch a fragrance (and maybe cosmetics too?)
Following in the footsteps of Issey Miyake, Jean Paul Gaultier, Narciso Rodriguez and Elie Saab, Azzedine Alaïa has signed a fragrance and cosmetics license with Beauté Prestige International, reports WWD.
Alaïa has been designing fashion for more than 50 years, but this is his first foray into cosmetics and fragrance. “Beauté Prestige International corresponds perfectly to the spirit of the Alaïa house,” said Alaïa. “I am delighted to work with them in launching this new project. I have total confidence in Beauté Prestige International to accompany me in creating a perfume that interprets my work and my world.”
Alaïa is notorious for his continued success while remaining outside the mainstream fashion fray, opting to present collections on his own schedule and within the privacy of his own studio space. However, we suspect that BPI won’t let the launch of Alaïa’s forthcoming fragrance be an off-the-grid affair.
