Excerpts from The Single Girl’s To Do List, plus Lindsey Kelk aka. the mistress of Chick Lit on Mad Men, gross perfumes, and the dreaded “LOL”
Besides the title of best-selling author accompanying her name for her I Heart series of books, British-born and New York-based writer Lindsey Kelk is also rather hilarious and tuned in to fashion, beauty, and pop culture, which we found out when we met her at the Toronto launch of her newest book, The Single Girl’s To Do List ($16, chapters.indigo.ca). The book is about a London editorial makeup artist, Rachel, who gets dumped out of the blue by her long-term boyfriend. She picks up the pieces by completing the titular list, and her insights along the way include cringe-worthy perfumes and cult beauty products, TV hunks, and plenty of Mad Men references that help us with our show withdrawal. There’s even a trip to visit a long lost crush that lives in Toronto. Now with the book climbing the Amazon bestsellers list, and a brilliant op ed about Chick Lit in the National Post, we spoke to her about our favourite three references in the book.

We go behind the scenes of the Mad Men collection for Banana Republic with Janie Bryant
Season 5 of Mad Men may be delayed until 2012, but thanks to Banana Republic‘s exclusive, 65-piece capsule collection by the show’s costume designer, Janie Bryant, we’ve got something to tide us over until then. Since its release last week, we’ve started feeling pangs of Draper-fever and so, in an attempt to calm ourselves, we chatted with Bryant about the collection and her work on the hit show. Read our interview after the jump!

Twin-sets at the ready: Banana Republic reveals photos from the Mad Men capsule collection
There’s no denying that part of Mad Men–mania is due to the show’s killer fashion sense. We’ve all had moments wishing we could walk through the halls of Sterling Cooper (or should we say Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce) in getups like those donned by the pseudo-prim Betty, curvy sex symbol Joan and newbie secretary and Draper-to-be Megan. Banana Republic is one step closer to making those wishes come true by revealing its Mad Men capsule collection, created in collaboration with the show’s costume designer extraordinaire, Janie Bryant.

Fashion news: Bardot disses Sarkozy, Lady Gaga’s stylist gets no respect, and Daphne Guinness’ airport entertainment
Does Janie Bryant ever sleep? The Mad Men costume designer, who has also created clothing line for sale on QVC, a nail polish range and vlogs for Banana Republic, has now teamed up with the 88-year-old brassiere brand Maidenform to work on a viral marketing campaign. Will be as successful as the legendary “I dreamed I…” campaign from the 50s and 60s? Only YouTube will tell… [Fashionista]
T’was tweeted: “thanks vanity fair for NOT crediting me in the story….VANITY UN-FAIR …..agrhhh!!!!” Argh indeed, according to stylist Nicola Formichetti, the man behind the much-buzzed gray-haired Lady Gaga Vanity Fair shoot, the mag didn’t credit him for his work. And off to Twitter it went. [@formichetti via Racked]

Fashion news: Pregnant Jourdan Dunn walks runway, Heidi Klum changes name, Brooks Brothers sells Mad Men suits and more
Morning sickness didn’t stop a very pregnant Jourdan Dunn from walking the runway for Jean Paul Gaultier. The glowing model wore a padded cone bra with matching maternity plate, looking like a Roman soldier in her first catwalk appearance at the spring shows. [Fashionologie]
Heidi Klum is changing her last name to match her husband’s. Seal may be known to us solely by his first name, but the singer’s entire name is Seal Henry Olusegun Olumide Adelo Samuel. Heidi is opting for Samuel as her new surname. We don’t love it as much as Klum, but as long as she doesn’t change her killer legs, we’ll just have to deal. [TMZ, via Jezebel]
