The enduring appeal of Mickey Mouse: Why the fashion industry is still interested
See the best Mickey Mouse fashion renditions »
Walt Disney couldn’t have predicted that his adorable anthropomorphic mouse would earn a fashion icon status well into his 80s. Mickey Mouse, born in 1928, is fashion’s perennial It boy, having made appearances on runways including like Marc Jacobs and Jean Charles de Castelbajac, and famous bodies of Miley Cyrus, Beyonce and Liu Wen all in the last few years.
Last month, Opening Ceremony launched a capsule collection in celebration of Mickey’s first animated film, Steamboat Willie. The film graphics are rendered on delightful button-down shirts, tees, sweatshirts, and plush-soft knit sweaters. The retailer-come-brand enlisted New Era for hats, Vans for sneakers, and Tabio for socks, making sure all of our Mickey needs are covered. Meanwhile, the French answer to Urban Outfitters, Eleven Paris, is also splattering the mouse’s image on their sweats and tees, and over on the fast fashion end, Forever 21 gives us an affordable alternative.
Men can also grab a more abstracted version of Mickey with Comme des Garçons SHIRT collection, which is certainly not a first Disney collab for the brand. Who can forget the flamboyant Mickey Mouse hat Anna Dello Russo sported last year at Milan Fashion Week? Of course, sporting mouse ears is a real thing now, perhaps thanks to Rihanna, who wore a Mickey Mouse-inspired helmet designed by Jeremy Scott in her music video for “Hard.” The unapologetic cartoon fan Jeremy Scott has used the image of our beloved rodent in his Fall 2009 collection, also famously worn by Lady Gaga in “Paparazzi.”

Street Style, Paris: 21 shots of Chanel swag, motorcycle garb and laser cuts outside fashion week
See all the street style from Paris here »
You would think that after almost a month of Fashion Weeks with intense schedules, endless fashion shows and plenty of travel time, the fashion elite would be running out of things to wear. But the latest batch of street style shots from outside Paris Fashion Week depict anything but. Some of our favourite street style stars were out in full force, wearing their best and brightest, and enjoying all the fashion frivolities. Clearly the playful vibes from Chanel’s fashion-show-turned-shopping-centre were infectious.
Besties and fellow editors, Giovanna Battaglia and Anna Dello Russo hammed it up for the cameras atop concrete bollards. Just how ADR got up there without rumpling her floor-length Spring 2014 Valentino, we’ll never know. In a coy twist on a virginal long sleeved lace dress, Kate Foley wore a strip of bright red gaffe tape strategically placed as a pseudo censor bar straight from the Preen Fall 2014 show. Several models fresh off of the Chanel runway proudly showed off their free swag courtesy of the label’s shopping aisles. (We’re more than a little jealous of Anya Ziourova’s Chanel doormat…)

Street Style, Paris: 30 shots of fashion elite outside the weekend’s Fall 2014 shows
See all Rihanna’s looks from Paris Fashion Week Fall 2014 »
With Paris Fashion Week nearing a close for the Fall 2014 (the week will culminate on Wednesday with Nicolas Ghesquière’s much anticipated debut at Louis Vuitton), we’ve got a pretty clear view of what’s hot on the streets.
Continuing the season’s proclivity for baby girl hues, guests wore bubbegum pink within head-to-toe ensembles, on wideleg pants and on accessories. And on the flipside, fashion blogger Aimee Song showcased a bright shade of red with a high waisted full skirt, purse and ribbon-accented heels. Though the temps are looking much warmer than here at home, outerwear still reigned supreme with inspired takes from Anna Dello Russo in swirling Céline, Eva Chen in metallic Marc by Marc Jacobs and Giovanna Battaglia in an optic print. Possibly inspired by the City of Love itself, stylist Elisa Nalin went romantic in a collared Alice + Olivia dress featuring playful red lips.

Street Style, Paris: 20 fashion week shots of Kanye, Gisele and more from outside the Fall 2014 shows
See the latest street style looks from Paris Fashion Week »
Yesterday’s Paris Fashion Week street style round up of subdued glamour was seemingly just a warm up to today’s batch of pics filled with quirky outfits and dramatic outfits featuring lots and lots of black. Black after all is fashion’s favourite colour.
Probably the standout look of the bunch is the fantastically trippy harlequin inspired red and black diamond coat and dress. Paired with a façade top hat, the back cut out allowing for an epically long ponytail, and structural cut-out shoes seemingly defying all logic and gravity. Anna Dello Russo, in typical fashion, also opted for unusual headgear, going for a felt riding cap paired with a black sleeveless shift and sheer pullover underneath. And of course, it wouldn’t be Anna without a little inflection of Asian pop art, with her gummy bear clutch adding a big of colour to the monochromatic look. Black moto jackets were all the rage and spotted on plenty of of-duty models and fashion style stars alike, with Giovanna Battaglia choosing to soften her shearling version with a ruffled gingham ensemble and bright pink fedora.
