Fashion news: Claudia Schiffer photos interpreted as racist, Crocs save a life and Fashion’s Night Out cranks up the fun
Photographs of Claudia Schiffer by Karl Lagerfeld for a Stern Fotographie 60th anniversary retrospective are being slammed as racially insensitive. In one image Schiffer is captured wearing black face, and in another the supermodel is made to look Asian. “There are not enough women of colour featured in mainstream magazines,” said Shevelle Rhule, of Pride magazine in response to the pictures. “This just suggests you can counteract the problem by using white models.” [Telegraph]

The daily steal: Seaside dress, $68
True penny pinchers might not consider $68 a steal. But look closely, it’s a dress, and coming from Anthropologie, (anthropologie.com) the store that took the Olsen twins’ boho-chic to a new extreme, I shall take what I can get. How divine are the watercolour sailboats, especially when paired with the whimsical stripes on top?

The daily steal: Trompe l’oeil chemise, $58
We’ve had a nice dose of spring in Toronto this week and while it’s not shorts and sandals weather yet (it’s really not, people), I feel like I can start putting together my spring wardrobe without fear of snowy reprisals. I wear real bows never, but I somehow like the trompe l’oeil version on this […]

Dior Homme is branching out into a women’s denim collection for petite ladies. The collection, Petite Taille, will be based on the men’s collection, mixing premium denim with spandex. Anthropologie is adding another winning item to the store’s hit list. In a collaboration with luxury perfumer Givaudan, six scents have been developed under the A Rather Novel Collection. Five of the world’s top perfumers took their inspiration from global teas when brewing up this fresh batch. [The Cut]
Somehow, the junior’s store XOXO is getting away with having models strip down to their underwear in their holiday windows. Daily gawkers have been spotted trying desperately to get the models’ attention, who are instructed to ignore onlookers. How festive. [The Cut]

Today in unnecessary collaborations: Kings of Leon are diving into the design world with a new collaboration with Surface to Air. The collection will be available exclusively at Copenhagen boutique Paris Texas. The line will be, well, pretty much exactly what the musicians themselves would wear: tons of flannel, bomber jackets and skinny pants. [BlackBook]
The rumours were true: Much to the delight of Twi-Hards everywhere, Harper’s Bazaar features the two starlets canoodling in a full editorial spread and interview in the December issue. [The Cut]

Ruffian designs Anthropologie line, Burberry gets digital, and celebrity designers in trouble
Burberry is hopping on the social-media bandwagon with their Burberry Prorsum runway show. It will be simulcast live from London Fashion Week at live.burberry.com at 1:30 p.m. EST today. The brand recently launched Facebook and Twitter accounts, and is set to create a site called “Art of the Trench,” where loyal fans can contribute photos of themselves in their classic nova-check coats. Celebrity clothing lines are being hit hard by the recession. Anna Wintour, and we’re sure many others, is pleased by the economic situation, saying it will weed out the weak. “Every D-level celebrity who thought they could make a quick buck by designing a handbag or whatever is going to disappear,” she said. Stars who don’t seem to have staying power (at least in the design world) include Justin Timberlake, Lauren Conrad and Jennifer Lopez. [WSJ]

Adventures at Anthropologie
With its decorative curios, ceramic and wrought-iron housewares and eclectic print clothing, Anthropologie (anthropologie.com) feels like a delicate homage to the Victorian era. The official opening of its Yorkville outpost, its second store opening in Toronto in the past six months, felt like a tea party straight out of the Victorian favourite Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
