We came, we saw, we created our Spring 2016 shopping lists. The Heart Truth puts the spotlight on women’s heart health with an all-star fashion show in Toronto
One of the biggest events at Toronto’s World MasterCard Fashion Week wasn’t just about the fashion: The Heart and Stroke Foundation’s The Heart Truth show was part celebrity showcase, part awareness campaign and one huge party on the runway. The annual charity event brought together on-air personalities, Olympic athletes and other notable names, each wearing a custom-made red dress by Canadian designers such as David Dixon, Stephan Caras and Ashtiani. Jamie Salé showed off a growing baby bump in a lacy Farley Chatto number, while Jennifer Valentyne revealed even more with a custom pair of bloomers under her frilly Momo frock. This season, the tables were turned: Essie invited me to experience what it’s like to be a model (er, nail-wise, that is) by getting the look for Ashtiani Spring 2013 applied on my own nails. Rita Remark, the lead Essie nail artist for World MasterCard Fashion Week, was leading the charge backstage, working with the team from Pinky’s Nails to design and apply creative manicures for seven shows throughout the week. (That’s more than 850 nails that need to be prepped and painted beforehand!)

TFW Diary: Ashtiani proves softness and angularity are one delicious mix for fall
The message at yesterday’s Ashtiani show was clear: Muted tones and simple structures trump the over-the-top elaboration seen elsewhere this week (you know who you are). Done up in calming greys, muted mints and the like, designer Golnaz Ashtiani served up quite a few must-haves for fall. Case in point: a light cream cropped wool jacket with mini cape collar in frosty blue, that was paired with a patent leather trimmed wool skirt and a close-fit dress with soft green pleating. Have you ever seen such soft angularity?
