Check out the pics from the Nordstrom Canada opening gala » The day has come. What seems to have been the buzziest of buzzwords (or the buzziest of hashtags, #NordstromYYC) in the Canadian retail scene since Fall 2012, Nordstrom has launched its first international outpost at Calgary’s Chinook Centre. The opening gala, hosted by members of the […]

Brace yourself for the best Canadiana street style yet. While we may have thought it difficult to top last year’s stellar batch, these shots prove yet again, the Calgary Stampede has it going on in the street style department. Captured by photographers Ania Bonieka and Tyler Stalman, event attendees did not fail to impress us when it came to dressing for the festive occasion.

Street Style, Calgary: 19 shots of construction workers, office dwellers and cool kids
See the street style from Calgary »
While the streets outside fashion week are always littered with head-to-toe statements, reality is such that fashion is much more functional day to day. Work in construction? Your wardrobe is likely going to consist of toughed up basics. Nine to five office dweller? A brightly hued tie might just be the only form of expression you’ve got. That being said, function can often be amped up, especially in the warmer months.
Globetrotting photographers Ania Boniecka and Tyler Stalman returned to their hometown to snap some everyday street style in and around Calgary—a winning smile seems trending across the board.

Calgary Street Style: 34 shots of trendy residents sporting summer layers
See Calgary street style the gallery »
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: man, Calgary’s stylish. Resident street style photographers Ania Boniecka and Tyler Stalman took to the ever-trendy 17th Avenue to document some of this summer’s hippest, and as per usual, came out with street style gold. Photographed over a few weekends in July, trendy Calgarians were spotted sporting summer layers apropos for Summer 2013’s cold-weather influx. Leather jackets and thin-knit sweaters seemed the favourite cover-ups for the ladies, while the gents favoured long sleeved button downs. As they are with much of the country’s most fashion-forward men, unkempt beards and moustaches reigned supreme. We ain’t complaining.

Calgary Stampede 2013: 50 epic street style shots closing out “the greatest outdoor show on Earth”
Check out our Calgary Stampede 2013 street style photos! »
Is Calgary Canada’s most stylish city? After looking at not one but two stellar street style galleries from Alberta’s largest locale, we might venture to say yes! Post flash flooding and a full week of cowboy festivities, we are mega impressed by the steez brought by this year’s Calgary Stampede attendees as captured by photographers Ania Bonieka and Tyler Stalman.
As we reported with last week’s Calgary Stampede street style batch, denim was a popular basic for many of those in attendance. Breathing new life into good ole Canadian Tuxedo, a batch of studs traveling on the Hudson’s Bay roadtrip rocked the denim-on-denim look alongside this stunning chick, who even matched bright blue nails into her look. New takes on traditional accessories proved quite popular as well, with bolo ties, cowboy hats and boots all making appearances alongside the weekend’s other most popular accessory: the bicycle.

Saddle up! Check out 35 smokin’ street style shots from the Calgary Stampede
Check out our Calgary Stampede 2013 street style photos! »
It’s certainly been quite the month for Calgary but this weekend the city proved that not only must the show go on, it’s going to bring it, style-wise. The Calgary Stampede has once again blown our minds for its ability to gather as many cool looking kids as possible in one place. Thanks to the keen eye of photographers Ania Boniecka and Tyler Stalman, you can see that “the greatest outdoor show on Earth” makes for excellent street style scouting. We’re talking distressed denim with covetable patchwork pieces, dusty leather paired with delicate lace, turquoise and silver jewellery and all the cowboy hats and boots you could ever want. Beauty-wise, Alberta seems to have mastered the art of loose, wavy hair and dewy summer skin. Remind us to book a flight to Calgary for next year, yeah?

The Calgary Stampede launches its own private brand of cowboy boots
See the Calgary Stampede boot collection » With the one-month countdown the Calgary Stampede starting this week, it’s time to start thinking of what to wear to the event now affectionately known by those who know as “the greatest outdoor show on earth.” We’re thinking denim, plaid and, of course, the symbolic white hat. But […]

Inside Paul Hardy’s 10th Anniversary party in Calgary: The who’s who of the Canadian fashion industry celebrated one of its finest designers in style
See the Paul Hardy 10th anniversary party photos »
Party Hardy! Finally—I’ve been waiting to say that ever since FASHION received an invite to Canadian design star Paul Hardy’s 10th anniversary bash in Calgary on Saturday. It was an exclusive guest list, after all, (including Dragon’s Den billionaire W. Brett Wilson and his date, the Real Housewives of Vancouver’s Mary Zilba as well as Vancouver’s blonde and bubbly country singing sisters, Carly and Britt McKillip of One More Girl), and might have been the biggest, brightest, boldest birthday party to ever hit the Alberta fashion scene.
Mr. Hardy, Tourism Calgary and Travel Alberta flew in fashion’s top editors, bloggers and VIP’s from Vancouver to Toronto, including the Globe & Mail’s Tiyana Grulovic, Hello! Canada’s Tara Henley, FASHION’s resident street style photographer Stefania Yarhi, and Style Panel’s Gracie Carroll. After waking up in the swanky Hyatt Regency Calgary and chic-boutique Hotel Arts, the first snowfall of the season made our trek to the island River Café feel like some kind of wonderland—or as Hardy perfectly positioned it, “Narnia”.
