Nail Corner: 3 ways to a glitter mani with the galaxy nail, broken disco ball, and our Britney Spears “Toxic”-inspired design
See how we painted our nails! »
This week in Nail Corner, we’re bringing you glitter in three ways: as an accent, in an artistic design, and in a whole new format. The holiday season is always a great excuse for wearing glitter polish non-stop, especially since almost all the brands include a few glitters in their holiday collections. It also takes the stress out of matching your attire to your manicure—glitter is, in a way, somewhat neutral. (We’re not the only ones who pick an outfit based on our polish, right?) And don’t let the difficulty of removing it get you down: we have a solution. As always, if you like what you see in Nail Corner, have questions, or want to share your own manicure, get in touch through Facebook or Twitter.

Introducing Nail Corner: Your guide to the DIY manicures we’re currently wearing
See how we painted our nails! »
Welcome to the Nail Corner—a new feature that will show off creative manicures found on the hands of FASHION’s editors, interns, and stylish staff members. While there’s a lot to be said about the talents of our favourite professionals, some of us prefer to skip the salon and go DIY. We’ll teach you a few tricks of the at-home trade and show off the best new shades. Like what you see, have questions, or want to share your own manicure? Hit us up on Facebook or Twitter.

We teach you how to tie a turban, Jay Manuel style!
One trend we can’t wait ‘til spring to try is turbans. A handful of different styles were wrapped around models’ heads at last night’s Attitude Jay Manuel show. It’s definitely a playful, beachy look, but with the right scarf (think: warm autumn shades) turbans totally work for the last, crisp days of fall. Here’s how to tie it up:

Denis Gagnon does DIY Aldo
Denis Gagnon presented his Spring 2010 collection yesterday at Montreal Fashion Week (more to come on that soon). The starting point for the line was zippers, a theme blown out on the custom-designed Aldo footwear that Gagnon created with stylist YSO. (Gallery after the jump.)

Jessica Biffi gives us a nail art demo!
When our Toronto blogger Connie Ng mentioned that designer Jessica Biffi was really into nail art and had even given her a little demo on their afternoon out, we were hard pressed to say no. Read on for a little DIY action.

Winnipeg: Tell me about it, stud
Balmain, Kenzo and Dior are among the many fashion designers who have been playing with studs and beading this season. Bags, shoes, jackets and jeans have all been revamped with this heavy metal look, transforming sweet and demure into strong and bold. Women everywhere seem to have fallen in love with this look, and I am one of them.

Multi-faceted quirk Miranda July is having her wedding dress designed by her friends at Rodarte. More important, perhaps, is that her fiancé has Rodarte jammies. What do you think those look like? [WWD]
We’re still waiting on confirmation on who’ll be taking the helm at Nina Ricci. (Peter Copping, says the rumour.) The ousted Olivier Theyskens is said to be going to Halston. We have mixed feelings about this. [Hint]

Vancouver: Get crafty at Heritage Hall
There are some clothing items we’ve purchased that are well-worn, well-loved and that cause a bit of heartbreak when we realize it’s time to let them go. But the truth is, those few precious pieces make up only a fraction of what’s in our closets.

Face it, you need a facial
I have a confession: The seemingly permanent real estate that the blackheads on my nose have claimed makes me fear they’ll never go away and I’ll have to start referring to them as freckles to avoid the shame of being a beauty director with clogged pores. Even with a finely applied layer of foundation I can’t hide them—a midday shine gives me away, uncovering my dirty little secret. So, in utter despair and, I’m not going to lie, 11 months of unwanted abstinence, I booked a facial ($95) with Jennifer Cueto, aesthetician for Concepts Salon & Spa (60 Bloor St. W., 416-922-1558, conceptstoronto.com).

Halifax: DIY plumage
The seed was planted when a funeral-themed party had me on the phone midday, trading up a lunch break for a fashion quest, locating a black half-cap and veil in one of Halifax’s goldmine vintage shops. A few bobby pins later, and I’m hooked. Headpieces, with their drama, vintage appeal and immediate elegance, are my foible.

Winnipeg: Idle hands
I have three weeks off work, it’s been minus 36 degrees outside for much too long and the view from my bedroom window is obstructed with ice crystals. Cabin fever has officially taken hold and the other day I found myself standing in front of my closet with a pair of scissors.
