As US retailers continue their north of the border barrage, a bit more fuel to the fire comes via today’s announcement that Nordstrom will take over the former Toronto Eaton Centre Sears flagship. Excitement! The swap has been suspected since Sears announced it was closing the location in October and now we’ll have two years of construction anticipation to look forward to before Nordstrom opens in Fall 2016.

Back in our childhood, Christmas stockings were usually filled with chocolate, candy, socks and underwear (thanks Mom and Dad!). For 2012 however, the amount of stuff and the price tags that come with them can tend to add up. For our 2012 gift guide, we have many different stocking stuffers that will suit anybody in your family and with each item retailing for $25 or under, you may even want to buy one for yourself too.

The stocking stuffers featured here are pretty much foolproof, as in you’re bound to find at least a few items here that anybody on your Christmas gift list will love. From The Body Shop’s festive array of gingerbread body polish and bath crystals to tech items like iPhone covers and funky headphones, these Christmas gift idea stocking stuffers are sure to be opened with excitement come Christmas morning.

American retailers must have all set their compasses due north because yet another U.S. chain has announced plans to set up shop here in Canada. As if we weren’t already excited enough about next year’s arrival of cheap-chic retailer Target, now Nordstrom has announced plans to open four locations in the Great White North as well.

One trend we can’t wait ‘til spring to try is turbans. A handful of different styles were wrapped around models’ heads at last night’s Attitude Jay Manuel show. It’s definitely a playful, beachy look, but with the right scarf (think: warm autumn shades) turbans totally work for the last, crisp days of fall. Here’s how to tie it up:

Jay Manuel, the silver-haired and Toronto-raised fashion personality best known by his roles on America’s and Canada’s Next Top Model was in his hometown yesterday to launch his much-anticipated line, Attitude Jay Manuel, at Sears Eaton Centre. The die hard–fan-filled runway style presentation attracted gawkers and passers-by alike, who—if they didn’t know before—definitely were clued into Manuel’s celebrity status by the 40-foot poster that hung in the entrance to the mall.

A few days ago, as my alarm-radio clicked on, I awoke to the distinctive sound of Jay Manuel’s voice. He was describing his humble fashion beginnings as head honcho of his Scarborough high school fashion show. Last night, the hometown boy did his alma mater proud, and Sears has taken notice⎯Jay equals cache. He brought a slick, polished feel, lacking from the Attitude collections of seasons past, as well as a serious dose (and strong nod) to the international designer runways. Strutting out in a tailored, sharp shouldered, white pantsuit, Yasmin Warsame led the way for a collection dominated by work-wear separates, a clever move for the Sears customer. What began as an ode to black and white, quickly turned to a lesson in colour theory with on-trend combos of eggplants, pumpkins, periwinkles and teals. My must have? The saturated cerulean coat sure to inject a little “Attitude” into my fall fashion lineup.
