Quotable: What caused Sienna Miller to wash her hair with ketchup?
No, it wasn’t a skunk attack that made Sienna Miller turn to tomato ketchup as her shampoo of choice—the star was simply trying to combat a bad dye job. She made the mistake of using henna to dye her hair brown for an audition (considering we’ve always known her as a blonde, this must have been years ago!) without knowing that the all-natural formula is almost impossible to remove. She told Marie Claire:

Afternoon beauty fix: Show off your love for bright colours without pulling a Katy Perry
I love Katy Perry’s blue hair but I could never pull it off amidst my real-life obligations. Is there a more accessible way to show off my love for bright colours?
I’m with you on adoring a splash of colour against a sea of typical shades—Kelly Osbourne‘s violet tint looks toned down compared to Katy’s, though it would still take an informed stylist and tons of work to maintain a bright dye job on your own. Candy-coloured hair started trending with the Thakoon Spring 2012 runway show and has caught on like wildfire with musicians and actors alike. -
Afternoon beauty fix: How to give your hair colour a boost during winter months
Why do I love my hair colour in the summer but not in the winter? I colour it the same shade all year!
In the winter, we’re affected by more than a drop in temperature: our skin washes out due to the lack of sun, we wear darker colours, and we spend way more time indoors. These things considered, it makes sense for your beloved colour to appear lackluster during the cooler months. So how best to combat a dull dye? Brighten your complexion by boosting your shade a few notches. -
Quoteable: This star thinks once you hit 30 it’s time to step away from the dye bottle
Kelly Osbourne has changed her hair colour almost as many times as she’s changed careers. We have to admit, her current gig on the red carpets for E! is our favourite—as is her mauve-grey shade of hair. But if you want to copy her colour, you better be under 30. Osbourne explains: “To me, I’m […]

We’re into Selena Gomez’s new purple and blue highlights (and so is Justin Bieber!)
Selena Gomez tweeted a picture this weekend that revealed some electric purple and blue highlights in her hair, and we’ve been itching to see this new style in more detail ever since. Unfortunately, it seems like Justin Bieber is the only one with that luxury—the best shots of her new hair are ones the paparazzi […]

Guess which star now has long, blonde ombré hair?
Okay, we’re sorta kidding with this one. Jim Carrey, who turns 50 today, rocks a mean set of blonde ombré extensions on the set of his new film, Burt Wonderstone. (According to the Daily Mail, he’s playing a Vegas magician.)
All jokes aside—has the hairstyle of the moment has finally travelled full loop on the trend circle? Meaning, ombré has gone from “um, it looks like you haven’t dyed your roots?” to “OMG everyone’s doing it!” and back again. Carrey’s character doesn’t have hair like Audrina because it’s fashionable. At the same time, the trend has so many variations that it’s almost easier to argue that a grown-out dye job shouldn’t even be considered part of it. What do you think? Does this costume signal the end or are we too quick to call any tone-on-tone dye job ombré?

Afternoon beauty fix: To grey, or not to grey?
I used to have dark hair but it’s turning grey—should I invest the time and money to dye it regularly, or embrace the change and go grey with grace?
Keep it! Grey hair is totally on trend—Kristen McMenamy recently wore it on the cover of Italian Vogue. Besides, we’re calling bluff on the common complaint that grey hair is more coarse and brittle than its pigmented cousin—softness and manageability comes with proper care, and that begins in the shower. -
Afternoon beauty fix: Say goodbye to a brassy DIY dye
I touched up my roots with an at-home box dye, but now my icy-blonde colour looks brassy. How can I salvage my faux Scandinavian-ness without breaking the bank? Maintaining dyed hair can be hard on the wallet and demand a DIY fix based on budget alone. And while the ombre look is popular, it takes […]

Afternoon beauty fix: Hair dye making your new ‘do look greasy?
I dyed my blonde hair dark brown and, though I love the richness of this new colour, I dislike how it tends to look greasy super quickly. Until I go back blonde, will I be stuck shampooing on a daily basis? There’s something magical about embracing change with your hair colour—it creates a sense of […]

Afternoon beauty fix: Dye your hair Rihanna red without suffering the chemical consequences
I’m toying with the idea of dying my blonde hair bright Rihanna-red. If I don’t end up liking it, is it too damaging to change right back? Both at-home and salon-grade dyes that colour your hair “permanently” contain ammonia and other chemicals that change the pH balance in your hair, resulting in a damaging loss […]
