New York Fashion Week Spring 2013 Street Style: Ombrés, logo tees and an Advanced Style muse outside the first day of shows
New York Fashion Week officially kicked off the Spring 2013 show season yesterday with a full day of fashion shows around town. As shows from BCBG Max Azria, Tadashi Shoji and home-grown label Kaelen took place inside Lincoln Center, our street style photographer extraordinaire Stefania Yarhi was busy snapping Advanced Style favourite Rita Hammer in her signature circular glasses, PR dynamo Kelly Cutrone in head-to-toe black and gussied up Nylon editor Michelle Reneau sporting new bangs. While the A-list scooted inside, Yarhi snapped an awesome gent in the most awesome red suit (the red hat!) and even a little baby fashion show attendee. (Diaper changes are the new street style shtick.)

Jessica Alba and Kim Kardashian both hit up the blonde dye bottles this weekend
While the change of seasons often inspires a turn to darker hair colours, both Jessica Alba and Kim Kardashian added blonde ombré highlights over the weekend. Last Thursday, Alba tweeted “bye bye brown hair” before spending two days in the salon to perfectly lighten the ends of her naturally dark hair.

Designer DIY: How to recreate Chanel’s ombré sunhats in 8 steps!
There were so many things that we loved about Chanel‘s Cruise 2013 show, not least of which being its royal presentation on the Versailles grounds, but one thing we can’t seem to stop thinking about were the ombré sunhats that were toted alongside the Rococo-style confections. While the hats won’t land in-store until January of next year (and will arguably exceed our sunhat budget), we came up with a super simple and inexpensive DIY version.

Nail Corner: An under-the-sea gradient manicure inspired by Peter Pilotto
The single-nail style of gradient manicure has been making the rounds on nail blogs recently—thanks in part to its simple application method (I swear!) and its endless colour possibilities. It’s also a favourite of L.A.-based nail artist Madeline Poole, whose cheery sunset-ish designs will convince anyone to make this her next manicure. And when it comes to translating spring’s underwater trend into nail art, what could be better than a deep blue to foamy white gradient? Peter Pilotto’s aquatic print—as well as the illustration that accompanied it in our March issue—served as the perfect Nail Corner inspiration. Time to break out a makeup sponge and find out how to do this manicure!

Guess which star now has long, blonde ombré hair?
Okay, we’re sorta kidding with this one. Jim Carrey, who turns 50 today, rocks a mean set of blonde ombré extensions on the set of his new film, Burt Wonderstone. (According to the Daily Mail, he’s playing a Vegas magician.)
All jokes aside—has the hairstyle of the moment has finally travelled full loop on the trend circle? Meaning, ombré has gone from “um, it looks like you haven’t dyed your roots?” to “OMG everyone’s doing it!” and back again. Carrey’s character doesn’t have hair like Audrina because it’s fashionable. At the same time, the trend has so many variations that it’s almost easier to argue that a grown-out dye job shouldn’t even be considered part of it. What do you think? Does this costume signal the end or are we too quick to call any tone-on-tone dye job ombré?
