Should We Get Bangs? (Cannes 2023 Edition)
To bang, or not to bang — that is always the question. Bangs often get a bad rap. It’s easy to get scissor-happy and snip away at our fringe until it winds up too short…or in a regrettable bowl-cut. You either love them or hate them, but there’s no denying a solid set of bangs […]

Fringe is back! See the most famous bangs that inspired fall’s hair trend
At a certain point I realized that nearly all my beauty icons over the years had one thing in common: bangs. There are the rockers: Marianne Faithfull and Debbie Harry, Françoise Hardy and Kim Gordon. And the women who loved rockers: Anita Pallenberg, Pattie Boyd and Pamela Des Barres. The Frenchies: from Brigitte Bardot to […]

Beauty Confessionals: I can’t stop cutting my own bangs
I cut my own hair on the regular. I’m only half-ashamed, which is less than I should be; in a story I recently wrote for FASHION about high-priced haircuts, I owned up to going it alone when I’m out of town or just too cheap to see my regular guy, “I use a pair of […]

Emma Stone brings back her bangs (Plus, the scoop on her red carpet makeup)
Emma Stone’s been killing it during the worldwide promo tour for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and while you’d think that the back-to-back-to-back premieres wouldn’t allow for a trip to the salon, that’s clearly not the case. At Sunday’s red carpet in New York City, Stone debuted bold new bangs. The actress is known for changing up her tresses on a regular basis—cut, colour, style, you name it, Stone has definitely tried it—but we were so sure she was happily growing her fringe out. Case in point: Stone has been braiding and pinning her bangs back over the course of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 press tour, which are such classic signs of a girl stuck in fringe limbo, right?

Why Jennifer Lawrence’s new bob is going to be the hairstyle of the summer
The defining moment of 2013’s short hair trend is here: Jennifer Lawrence chopped off her hair this weekend and has a new, shoulder-grazing bob. News of the stunning look broke when celebrity stylist Mark Townsend (who, of course, did the cut) Instagrammed pictures right before Lawrence hit the red carpet at Saturday’s GLAAD Media Awards. “Spring is for layers!” he said of the textured, very Karli Kloss-esque style.
So what inspired the new cut? Harper’s Bazaar spoke to Townsend and he revealed that Jennifer Lawrence came in just an hour before call time and wanted to cut it all off. However, she didn’t want a traditional bob but instead requested all the layers: “We went with a full-on shag, with bangs and a lot of face-framing layers. I loosened up the ends by chopping into them with thinning shears. As I cut, I lost track of how many times she said ‘I love it!’ She was super excited. It’s the shortest her hair has been her whole life.”
The honey-blonde colour is also something new. Though she had blonde highlights at the Oscars, since her win Lawrence has been reshooting scenes for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire—which required a return to her all-black Katniss Everdeen hair colour.

And the bangs rage on… Kate Middleton makes her first visit to Cambridge!
See all of Kate Middleton’s recent bang-ful appearances »
Well, isn’t this interesting. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made their first visit to the city that bears their official title—the first ever for the Duchess, and the first in official capacity for Prince William since being married. Arriving by train from Kings Cross station in London (but maybe not this platform), the couple made several stops. But before they could get to them, the Duke and Duchess were met by throngs of fans who had lined the streets in hopes of meeting them. One fan gave Prince William a “babygro,” which upon googling, we learned was a baby jumpsuit. Awks.
Beginning with a visit to Cambridge University’s Guildhall, the Duke and Duchess were greeted by Lord Sainsbury of Turville, the Chancellor of the University and met with several staff members including her father’s first cousin, Dr. Penny Barton. According the BBC, Prince William made a lovely speech about the city being “a place renowned the world over for its dynamism, beauty and learning” and Dr. Barton responded by saying that Kate had made the family “proud.”
