Bold hair, don’t care: 10 dramatic celebrity hair transformations
See the celebrity hair transformations »
If we were to name our favourite kind of celebrity news, dramatic hair transformations would be high on that list. Though it comes as no surprise to hear that some of our fave celebs are changing up their looks for film roles (it’s in the job description, you know), we’d be lying if we said celebrity hair transformations don’t faze us from time to time. So whether the A-listers are going from long to short or from blonde to red, we’re all for it.
There’s no question short hair was a clear celebrity trend last year with Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway making the change from long to short. But judging from the latest celebrity hair transformations, this trend is here to stay. While Taylor Swift went for the drastic change earlier this year, chopping off her Rapunzel-like hair and opting for a bob style instead (possibly inspired by her IRL BFF Karlie Kloss?), the most recent (and surprising!) celeb to go short is Jennifer Aniston. Known for her wavy blonde hair, she shocked fans by debuting a sleek lob in a soft brown hue.

Jennifer Lawrence’s pixie cut: 10 winning ways the star has styled her short hair
See Jennifer Lawrence’s best pixie cuts »
We’re not going to lie. When it comes to celebrity beauty transformations, we’re big fans. So, you can imagine when Jennifer Lawrence debuted a much shorter cut from her previous lob, we were bouncing off walls. And we weren’t the only ones: when the Academy Award winner posted the photo of her new look on her Facebook page, the Internet pretty much broke.

Anne Hathaway versus Jennifer Lawrence: Which A-lister rocks the pixie cut best?
The pixie cut was, without a doubt, one of the top trends of 2013 and has seemingly continued into 2014 with aplomb. Two of Hollywood’s biggest stars, Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lawrence, have made the pixie cut a red carpet staple, and each rocks the style in her own way.
After she famously chopped off her hair for Les Mis, there were rumours that Anne Hathaway was eager to grow back some length, pronto. However, it seems the short cut is here to stay: Hathaway debuted a sleeker version of her now-signature style earlier this week at the Sundance Film Festival and it looks better than the original. With ultra-shaved sides and slightly-tousled bangs, Hathaway took her pixie cut to new, er, lengths. As for the rest of her outfit, barely-there bronze makeup and simple stud earrings kept the focus on her hair, while a slouchy emerald-green suit played up the androgynous-chic look.

Jennifer Lawrence ditches her Katniss braid for a sleek pixie cut
Jennifer Lawrence keeps going shorter and shorter! Earlier today the Oscar award winner revealed that her trend-setting lob from the summer is no more: she debuted a new, short pixie style via her Facebook page. Lawrence is just one of many celebs keeping the short hair trend going strong in Hollywood, with Jennifer Aniston, Pamela Anderson and Jennifer Hudson all showing off shorter styles in recent weeks. (Not to mention the dozens of stars who went short over the summer!)
Lawrence seems clearly happy to surprise the world with her piece-y new cut. It’s undeniably fresh and thanks to the honey-blonde highlights, it’s also perfectly textured. It’s probably no coincidence that this new short cut coincides with the the premiere of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, as Lawrence will be hitting up dozens of red carpets, interview junkets and photo calls over the next month. Meaning no matter your thoughts on how it’s styled today (mom cut, anyone?) we’ll get to see Lawrence’s short hair in an almost endless array of styles throughout November.

Emmys 2013: From Elisabeth Moss to Kate Mara, the best short hair on the red carpet
See the best hair from the 2013 Emmy Awards »
Short hair is still where it’s at, with above-the-shoulder styles being amongst the best beauty looks on the 2013 Emmy Awards red carpet. From Elisabeth Moss’s cropped platinum cut to Kate Mara’s striking pin-straight style to Claire Danes’ faux bob, the message was clear: to stand out in a sea of Old Hollywood side parts and loose updos, you have to go short.
Not willing to let Betty Draper have all the fun, Elisabeth Moss debuted her freshly-dyed blonde hair on the Emmys red carpet. Channeling a little bit of a Charlize Theron vibe, the tousled, modern style was a new look for Moss—and a fierce one at that. As for Mad Men’s other leading ladies, both January Jones and Christina Hendricks kept their short cuts curly.

Here’s the only piece of beauty news you need to know today, kids: Beyoncé now has a super short pixie cut. She’s joined the ranks of other celebs who made the very on-trend cut this summer! And because only Beyoncé herself announces any and all news about, well, herself, the singer chose to share her new hair via three Instagram snaps late last night.
The cropped style looks great—this is Beyoncé, after all—and the only real disagreement between fans (aka internet commenters) is over whether it’s an actual cut to her real hair or just another one of her stunning wigs.

Beauty Fix: Everything you need to know about eyelash extensions and more answers to your beauty questions

I recently cut my hair short and it’s at that point of growth where the ends flip out. What can I do to deal with this?
You’re preaching to the choir! I’ve been battling that old-school Carol Brady coif for a few weeks now, and let me tell you, it is a stubborn scene. Your best bet is to smooth the ends under when hair is still damp. After applying a heat protectant spray, aim the blowdryer nozzle downward on the hair shaft and grab a natural-bristle round brush to help decrease split-ends and breakage. Ideally, the brush should be small enough to use on shorter hair lengths, such as Raincry Professional Small Natural Bristle Brush 45mm ($48, raincry.com), to wrap the hair around the brush to curl the ends under in the opposite direction, working in sections and starting with the bottom layers of your hair. This method takes a bit more time, but ultimately, it’s less damaging to hair than the direct heat of a flatiron every time you wash your hair. -
Why Jennifer Lawrence’s new bob is going to be the hairstyle of the summer
The defining moment of 2013’s short hair trend is here: Jennifer Lawrence chopped off her hair this weekend and has a new, shoulder-grazing bob. News of the stunning look broke when celebrity stylist Mark Townsend (who, of course, did the cut) Instagrammed pictures right before Lawrence hit the red carpet at Saturday’s GLAAD Media Awards. “Spring is for layers!” he said of the textured, very Karli Kloss-esque style.
So what inspired the new cut? Harper’s Bazaar spoke to Townsend and he revealed that Jennifer Lawrence came in just an hour before call time and wanted to cut it all off. However, she didn’t want a traditional bob but instead requested all the layers: “We went with a full-on shag, with bangs and a lot of face-framing layers. I loosened up the ends by chopping into them with thinning shears. As I cut, I lost track of how many times she said ‘I love it!’ She was super excited. It’s the shortest her hair has been her whole life.”
The honey-blonde colour is also something new. Though she had blonde highlights at the Oscars, since her win Lawrence has been reshooting scenes for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire—which required a return to her all-black Katniss Everdeen hair colour.

Cropped hair without commitment: Learn how to create a faux bob in 6 easy steps
There are two reasons why the faux bob—a style that’s been a recent runway and red carpet favourite—is going to have a major moment over the next few months. First, short hair is in. The faux bob may not resemble the cropped cuts and punk-inspired hairstyles that populated Fall 2013 runways, but it does satisfy that need to change how your hair looks, without making a commitment. Second, consider the season: Spring may be off to a slow start, but once summer is in full swing you’ll want to know how to create a faux bob. Any style that keeps long strands of hair off your shoulders and back will certainly be in demand!
The faux bob is a great hairstyles to learn because it looks impressive and complicated but is actually anything but. Our step-by-step faux bob tutorial was developed in conjunction with Toronto-based hairstylist Margot Keith and takes all the confusion out of figuring out how it’s done. Like most updos, this style works best on hair that has a bit of grit in it, so save this faux bob tutorial for days when you’ve skipped the shampoo.

Michelle Williams’ sleek new side-shaved hairstyle is right on trend with Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber
Just when we thought Michelle Williams was growing out her hair she debuted a shorter, very trendy style at the Kate Young for Target launch in New York City last night. The “very trendy” description is key: Williams’ cut is quite short on one side with a long sweep of bang on top—making it very similar to the shaved-side styles recently worn by Pink and Miley Cyrus. (Well, to be fair, Pink has had that haircut for years…) Either way, it’s certainly the edgiest look we’ve seen on Williams, who tends to favour softer styles and classic pixie cuts.
But with Michelle Williams embracing the side-shaved style, does this mean it’s en route to becoming a mainstream cut? Up until now, the look has been reserved for pop stars and It girls—from Rihanna to Kelly Osbourne to Kate Lanphear. Even Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco emulated the style at the ACM Awards on Sunday night with a slicked-back pompadour. And not to leave the guys out of this, Justin Bieber also showed off a similar style this week. His new cut echoes the long bangs of his iconic tween-age Bieber style with, you guessed it, close-shaven sides.
