Summer usually calls for bold and bright nails (hello, neon!). However, on the Spring 2014 runways, neutral shades and pastels were getting just as much buzz in the nail world (like at Altuzarra and Alexander Wang). Trends aside, we all have our own preferences when it comes to manicures, whether we like to keep them neutral or loud and colourful. To help with a little beauty inspiration for this summer (because who doesn’t like more options?), this week we asked our Beauty Panel to share their favourite summer nail looks, from florals to pastels to one of Spring 2014’s hottest trends: metallics.

It looks as though 2013 is gearing up to be a big year for Mariah Carey and her little lambs. First the five-octave diva inked a deal with American Idol—making her the highest paid judge on reality television—and now OPI has announced that Mimi will serve as the inspiration for a line of limited-edition polishes that will launch in January 2013.

It’s been eight days since my most recent manicure—courtesy of the amazingly talented Rita Remark at Tips Nail Bar (844a Danforth Ave., Toronto, 416-405-8477, tipsnailbar.ca)—and dammit, it is still going strong. Granted, I don’t wash dishes, but I did paint my dining room and had to scratch a ton of remnants off my hands. Plus, it’s a dark shade (a true charcoal grey by China Glaze called “Recycle”), which as we all know, reveals the slightest chip instantly. Behold, the dry manicure, the only conclusion I can draw for this feat of longevity.
