Nail Corner: Clouds? Quatrefoils? Check out this taupe and metallic manicure!
Yes, technically a quatrefoil is a four-lobed shape—picture the Gothic clovers seen in Van Cleef & Arpels jewellery—and there are only three scalloped lobes in this nail design. However, it still evokes the shapes and lines of a repeating quatrefoil pattern (like you would see in latticework or on wallpaper) and besides, artistic liberties are wonderful things! By painting the quatrefoil design on top of a metallic polish, it gives this manicure a great deal of depth, as well as a sparkly finish. And maybe it also looks like clouds?

A surprising number of stars kept their nails bare at last night’s Golden Globes—but for those who decided to reach for the polish, purple was the colour of choice. (Unless you’re Zooey Deschanel, in which case custom tuxedo-inspired nail art is the way to go!) From Jessica Alba’s light lavender nails to Paula Patton’s dark-purple polish, we’ve rounded up our favourite manicures from the red carpet.

Nail Corner: Using manicure guides to create nail art and a birthday bonus—the cupcake mani!
This week on Nail Corner, we feature two designs that make clever use of manicure guide stickers—a half-moon mani and a tone-on-tone diagonal stripe. Both are even easier to do in person than they look. Plus, for those with a steady hand and playful mind, we present a festive birthday cupcake manicure. Like what you see? Nail Corner: A soothing ombré lavender manicure to start the New Year
It’s best to ease your way out of the holidays. After a week of eating nothing but comfort food, being hustled between endless family gatherings and feeling very squeezed in at Boxing Week sales, we could all use a mini-vacation before heading back to work. However, considering most of us are already back at our desks, it’s time to find relaxation in other ways, such as lavender. As a plant, lavender is known for its calming, restorative properties. So why not transfer a little bit of that relaxation onto your nails with a soothing lavender ombré manicure? -

Afternoon beauty fix: How to keep your cuticles happy and hydrated between manicures
I got a pretty inexpensive “express” manicure over the weekend and, though my expectations weren’t too high, the outcome is fairly sub-par. Do I need to start over? Nah, there’s no need to. You’re probably half way to a good manicure—a few simple at home tweaks will surely take it the rest of the way. […]

Nail Corner: 3 ways to a glitter mani with the galaxy nail, broken disco ball, and our Britney Spears “Toxic”-inspired design
See how we painted our nails! »
This week in Nail Corner, we’re bringing you glitter in three ways: as an accent, in an artistic design, and in a whole new format. The holiday season is always a great excuse for wearing glitter polish non-stop, especially since almost all the brands include a few glitters in their holiday collections. It also takes the stress out of matching your attire to your manicure—glitter is, in a way, somewhat neutral. (We’re not the only ones who pick an outfit based on our polish, right?) And don’t let the difficulty of removing it get you down: we have a solution. As always, if you like what you see in Nail Corner, have questions, or want to share your own manicure, get in touch through Facebook or Twitter.

Fashion news: Donatella Versace bemoans the loss of egos, Robert Duffy learns the power of Twitter, and a mani at the auto shop
Donatella Versace just wants fashion to be a fun, ego-fuelled mania again–like the good old days. To wit: Kristen McMenamy and Linda Evangelista once battled over who had blonde hair with black roots first. “I was called on as a witness to say who was the first to do black roots in blonde hair. At the time Steven Miesel was really inventing the look of the girls in this way, so I knew who was first: Kristen.” At another show, McMenamy allegedly stole one of Evangelina’s fake boobs. That does actually sound like a lot of fun. [Independent, via The Cut]
Another day, another live stream. You can watch the Calvin Klein Fall 2010 show live on February 18 at 3 p.m. on Facebook or calvinkleincollection.com. [WWD]
