Model Parent: 12 genetic lottery winners who are turning their good looks into real careers
While coming of age for most kids involves obsessing over Ryan Gosling’s abs or donning an ill-fitting mermaid dress to semi-formal, celebrity kids can burn mileage on what we’re calling “family flame fame.” Celebrity kids are genetic lottery winners: hardwired to be talented, ridiculously good looking and sometimes both. Walking a Marc Jacobs runway show before the age of 18? A very real possibility.
At the sprightly young age of 10, Victoria and David Beckham’s son Romeo has gotten a head start on his career by starring in Burberry’s Spring 2013 advertising. Meanwhile, Cindy Crawford’s eleven-year-old daughter Kaia has fronted Versace’s children’s range.
Celebrity kids are certainly modeling earlier these days and while they may not all live up to the stature of their parents, they’ve certainly got enough moxy to gain It girl status. Here are our top 12 favourite model children.

They said/We said: Could yesterday’s theatrical finale at McQ mean big news for the Alexander McQueen offshoot?
We’ve been longing for some spectacular—as in, spectacle-laden—fashion since the days of Alexander McQueen’s Widows of Culloden hologram and Galliano’s snow tunnel. And then came McQ’s Fall 2012 finale starring model and actress Kristen McMenamy (all masterfully caught on video).
The grey-haired fashion doyenne (with her tresses in what we can only describe as a cross between a ‘50s pin-up ‘do and a Twister bagel) closed the show in a white tulle wedding gown. But in true McQueen style, McMenamy does so much more than just strut down the runway; she discovers a rope hidden in the floor and artfully prances around follows it.
As she reaches the end of the catwalk, the brick wall disappears only to be replaced by 60 real-life trees straight out of Harry Potter’s Forbidden Forest (we literally gasped) and a little cottage with pulsing lights and techno music. Now that’s our kind of rave.
We think this is a brilliant PR move for the lesser-known brand, which has been trying to realign itself with its eponymous big sister since the two recoupled in 2010. Both Sarah Burton and François Pinault (chief executive of McQueen’s parent company PPR and, more famously, Salma Hayek’s husband) have acknowledged that they are trying to elevate McQ to new sartorial heights. And wow, have they ever succeeded.

They said/We said: This year’s British Fashion Council award nominations are out, including Erdem, Victoria Beckham, and Kate Middleton faves
The British Fashion Council just released the nominations for this year’s awards and surprise, surprise Kate Middleton favourites Sarah Burton and Erdem (yay!) are up for the Designer of the Year award alongside the always-thrilling Christopher Kane.
Other big nominations include Victoria Beckham for Designer Brand of the Year, even after last year’s controversy started by industry veterans over her nomination in the same category. (But, hey, she can sing, dance, and be pregnant in heels, so that’s got to count for something, right?) This time around, she’s up against Burberry, Stella McCartney, and Tom Ford. (In the case of Ford, apparently living part-time in London makes you a British designer?)
In the Model of the Year category, rockstar and supermodel offspring Georgia May Jagger will battle it out with Chanel muses Stella Tennant and Kristen McMenamy. Meanwhile, we’ve got a soft spot for all nominees in the Emerging Talent category. How can you choose between Mary Katrantzou, J.W. Anderson, and Peter Pilotto? The winners will be announced at a ceremony on November 28.

Paris notes: Colour-blocked cheongsams and a zebra-striped Kristen McMenamy at Louis Vuitton
Marc Jacobs took the season’s trend for Asian-inspired pieces and ran with it at Louis Vuitton. There were colour-blocked cheongsams, sequined obi sashes on skinny lurex knits, a Panda face tunic in sequins, pyjama pantsuits, lantern fringe and fan-shaped beading. Kristen McMenamy ended the show topless with painted-on zebra stripes and a pair of tuxedo trousers. I dare you to try that one at home.

Fashion news: Donatella Versace bemoans the loss of egos, Robert Duffy learns the power of Twitter, and a mani at the auto shop
Donatella Versace just wants fashion to be a fun, ego-fuelled mania again–like the good old days. To wit: Kristen McMenamy and Linda Evangelista once battled over who had blonde hair with black roots first. “I was called on as a witness to say who was the first to do black roots in blonde hair. At the time Steven Miesel was really inventing the look of the girls in this way, so I knew who was first: Kristen.” At another show, McMenamy allegedly stole one of Evangelina’s fake boobs. That does actually sound like a lot of fun. [Independent, via The Cut]

Suddenly Iris Strubegger
When I saw this Fall 2009 Valentino ad recently, my first thought was, Wow Kristen McMenamy has some great legs. While I’m sure she does, the legs in question actually belong to Austrian model Iris Strubegger, who is suddenly popping up everywhere.
