CFDA Awards 2013: Our recap of the winners, the red carpet outfits and more
See photos from the CFDA Awards 2013 »
The who’s who of fashion piled into the Lincoln Centre’s Alice Tully Hall last night for the CFDA Awards 2013 in New York City. For those who are a little unfamiliar to the event, the ceremony is to the fashion industry what the Grammys are to music. Let’s just say, you’re more likely to see Zac Posen on the red carpet, that you are J Biebs.
From Hilary Rhoda’s Helmut Lang number to Nicole Richie’s metallic maxi, the red carpet saw fashions finest (accompanied by their favourite six-foot-tall friends) in a variety of daring ensembles. Adriana Lima’s floor sweeping Givenchy frock left little to the imagination with its sheer skirt, while Jessica Chastain’s little black after-party-ready dress looked fabulous with her main accessory, Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci, whom she later presented the international award to. Erin Wasson looked positively futuristic in her edgy Alexander Wang gown while Miranda Kerr supported the boys at Proenza Schouler with a stunning blue mini by the label. Kerr’s fellow Victoria’s Secret angel Candice Swanepoel accompanied a very lucky Prabal Gurung to the event. Poor Michael Kors, who couldn’t decide on which model-friend to be his plus one, ended up bringing two dazzling dates, Karolina Kurkova and Cody Horn, who wore shimmering pieces from his collection. Meanwhile, Mary-Kate Olsen swapped sisters for the night, dressing Elizabeth Olsen in The Row while she stuck to her vintage penchant in Issey Miyake.

Olivia Wilde vs. Katie Holmes: Who wore white best at the Met Gala 2013
See the Met Gala 2013 looks up-close »
Though some took last night’s Met Gala theme, PUNK: Chaos to Couture, more seriously than others, we must admit we loved seeing celebrities embracing their edgier sides. With black being the more obvious colour of choice, we were surprised when a number of leading ladies opted for white on the red carpet instead. Katie Holmes and Olivia Wilde were among the celebrities who embraced fashion’s most innocent hue.
Katie Holmes and Olivia Wilde both showed their adoration for designer Francisco Costa in choosing gowns from the Calvin Klein Collection. The recently engaged Wilde dazzled in her custom-made white satin bandeau dress with black detailing on the sides, showing off her enviable abs in the midriff-baring style. Topping the look off with minimal jewelry and simple chandelier earrings, smooth hair and Jason Sudeikis on her arm, it was a good look, to say the least.

Toronto’s jewellery darling Maryam Keyhani makes it to the bigtime
While she may be our little secret now, we’re dealing with the fact that soon we’re going to have to share Toronto’s Maryam Keyhani with the rest of the world. Keyhani, a self-taught jewellery designer, is making it to the big time. Last month, Keyhani was selected to show her Spring 2012 collection as part of Vogue Italia’s annual new talent showcase in Milan (guests included fashion power players like, ahem, Anna Wintour). And just last night, one of Keyhani’s pieces was spotted on Freida Pinto, worn with a Calvin Klein cocktail number at the ELLE Women in Hollywood Tribute Event!
Keyhani is an artiste in the true sense of the word, and as such, the work that goes into her pieces is just as beautiful to look at as the pieces themselves. Check out some of the sketches for her Fall 2011 collection, which is available exclusively at Holt Renfrew (for now, that is).

New York: Francisco Costa shows must-haves for the urban warrior at Calvin Klein
Designer Francisco Costa continued the cool allure of the Calvin Klein label with his fall 2010 line-up of minimalist, techno-inspired pieces. New must-haves for the urban warrior include silk folded raglan shirts, cashmere shifts, stretchy long sleeve dresses, and silver column dresses. Absolutely divine.
