New York Fashion Week: What the modern-day society swans will be wearing for Fall 2014
You’ve heard of the Day of the Dead. Well, yesterday was the Day of the Debs at New York Fashion Week. Bright and early, my day began with a preview of the upcoming Charles James exhibit at the newly named Metropolitan Museum of Art Anna Wintour Centre (née Costume Institute) and model/actress/daughter of Isabella Rossellini Elettra Wiedemann modeling one of his original society swan designs. Then, it was onto Chanel HQ for a viewing of Karl’s latest collection of couture magic (encrusted sneakers included), featuring corset waists fit surely for ladies who lunch… or actually who don’t lunch.
Up and coming designer Rosie Assoulin brought Charles James to Fall 2014 with her second superb collection of structural sportswear-meets-society separates and evening gowns straight out of this famed Cecil Beaton photograph. Velvet sashes layered over sweatpants! That’s how the modern swans do. And later that night, yet more odes to James at Zac Posen, where a teal panniered duchess satin gown was so glamorously wide, it grazed my feet as it flew past.

Model Parent: 12 genetic lottery winners who are turning their good looks into real careers
While coming of age for most kids involves obsessing over Ryan Gosling’s abs or donning an ill-fitting mermaid dress to semi-formal, celebrity kids can burn mileage on what we’re calling “family flame fame.” Celebrity kids are genetic lottery winners: hardwired to be talented, ridiculously good looking and sometimes both. Walking a Marc Jacobs runway show before the age of 18? A very real possibility.
At the sprightly young age of 10, Victoria and David Beckham’s son Romeo has gotten a head start on his career by starring in Burberry’s Spring 2013 advertising. Meanwhile, Cindy Crawford’s eleven-year-old daughter Kaia has fronted Versace’s children’s range.
Celebrity kids are certainly modeling earlier these days and while they may not all live up to the stature of their parents, they’ve certainly got enough moxy to gain It girl status. Here are our top 12 favourite model children.

Michael Kors and his high-powered pals support World Hunger Day with a fundraiser, bilboard takeover and more
See the God’s Love we Deliver event photos »
Last week, designer Michael Kors used his influence to fight the global hunger crisis on official World Hunger Day (October 16). Together with the World Food Programme, the day began with a cleverly orchestrated digital takeover of the billboards at Times Square, which streamed content that raised awareness of his Watch Hunger Stop campaign. The initiative encouraged the world to participate by spreading the word through social media, donating to the cause and purchasing a Kors-designed watch whose sale would fund 100 meals through the World Food Programme.
The designer has also been a huge advocate for God’s Love We Deliver; an organization that prepares tailored meals for people with severe illnesses in the city he calls home. Last year, a $5 million donation he made helped in the renovation of the organization’s facility, which in recognition was re-named to “The Michael Kors Building.” God’s Love We Deliver held its annual Golden Heart Awards to cap off World Food Day with stars from film, fashion, and political circles coming together to celebrate notable community contributions.

Fash-Food Nation: A new batch of models, bloggers and editors is changing the way fashion and food blend together
By Olivia Stren
On the inaugural episode of a web series called Elettra’s Goodness, Elettra Wiedemann, host, model and daughter of Isabella Rossellini, is making brie-stuffed puff pastries, shallot confit and fig-and-raspberry compote with actress Blake Lively. They’re stoveside at Richard Gere’s Relais & Chateau Bedford Post Inn, and, before cracking eggs and unfurling pastry sheets, Lively declares in a tone that is intended to be apologetic: “I don’t ever cook with a recipe. So it’s all a little wild.” She is, we are to understand, in her madcap, recipe-eschewing ways, the ultimate domestic goddess, able to concoct compotes off-book, fired by pure, sensuous instinct. As Lively stirs the confit, she talks about the wonders of balsamic vinegar and making butterscotch with “Elwyn,” the pastry chef at Per Se, while Wiedemann shares a fantasy of tiling her kitchen. We then learn that Lively’s sister once hand-tiled her own loo while sporting Louboutins.

Bring a little beauty to Day of the Dead
Halloween might be over, but there’s still good reason to do something special with your beauty routine this morning: November 2 is Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead—the Mexican holiday that celebrates the departed. Bright flowers, sugar skulls, and colourful costumed skeletons are all iconic symbols of this holiday, and are gaining traction across mainstream culture. Both Elettra Wiedemann and Debra Messing showed up at the Hulaween Benefit Gala this weekend dressed like a skeleton à la Day of the Dead. Of course, not every office will appreciate a full painted-skull get up on your face, so here’s a few subtle ways to adjust your look.

Overheard at NYFW: Nicki Minaj’s giant fro knocking over a model in front row. Quelle disaster!
Overheard (or seen) at the Prabal Gurung Spring 2012 show: Elettra Wiedemann‘s texting her fiance to say that Nicki Minaj‘s fro was knocking her over in the front row. Ah, the price we pay for a front row seat…
