In Defense of Uniform Dressing: 5 Trailblazers Show Us How it’s Done
It’s interesting that what entices us about the fashion world is constant change and innovation, yet most of the industry’s heavyweights—the same ones we look to for street style inspo—don’t subscribe. Instead of owning a look that’s ever-changing, they stick to what they know and love, a.k.a. their personal uniform. Think Anna Wintour and her […]

What’s in your bag, Harley Viera-Newton?
What’s in your bag, Harley Viera-Newton? » Last week, one of fashion’s coolest It girls took time out from spinning at Chanel, fronting a Gucci lookbook and collaborating with Dior Beauty to close Rudsak‘s 20th anniversary show during Toronto Fashion Week. A few hours before the show, we got to be ultimate creeps, rummaging inside […]

Rudsak Fall 2014: The brand celebrates 20th anniversary with Harley Viera-Newton in tow
See the Rudsak Fall 2014 collection »
By Laura Zechel
When classic guitar opens a runway show, it’s pretty obvious that rock ‘n’ roll inspired looks are about to come next. Such was the case at Thursday night’s Rudsak Fall 2014 presentation, which helped celebrate the brand’s 20th anniversary with signature edge. Featuring a 51-look onslaught of crop ribbed moto jackets in black, bordeaux and green, skin-tight metallic leather minis and lace tights, the collection looks were accented by Anna Karenina-worthy Russian fur hats to imply a luxe element.
Staying true to Rudsak’s rebellious aesthetic, badass leather outerwear reigned alongside longer, warmer hooded pieces. Standouts included a voluminous black coat rimmed with leather and long, flow-y fur and slick, branded guitar cases and backpacks. That, and of course, its finale IRL rockstar: model/DJ Harley Viera-Newton, who closed the show.

Michael Kors and his high-powered pals support World Hunger Day with a fundraiser, bilboard takeover and more
See the God’s Love we Deliver event photos »
Last week, designer Michael Kors used his influence to fight the global hunger crisis on official World Hunger Day (October 16). Together with the World Food Programme, the day began with a cleverly orchestrated digital takeover of the billboards at Times Square, which streamed content that raised awareness of his Watch Hunger Stop campaign. The initiative encouraged the world to participate by spreading the word through social media, donating to the cause and purchasing a Kors-designed watch whose sale would fund 100 meals through the World Food Programme.
The designer has also been a huge advocate for God’s Love We Deliver; an organization that prepares tailored meals for people with severe illnesses in the city he calls home. Last year, a $5 million donation he made helped in the renovation of the organization’s facility, which in recognition was re-named to “The Michael Kors Building.” God’s Love We Deliver held its annual Golden Heart Awards to cap off World Food Day with stars from film, fashion, and political circles coming together to celebrate notable community contributions.

Exclusive: We talk with Lady Gaga about Fame, fragrance and why being from New York makes her scent the best (Plus: 16 photos of celebs at the Fame launch party!)
See all the party photos from the Fame launch in New York! »
Masks, tattoos and Mother Monster asleep on a couch. The party for Lady Gaga’s new fragrance, Fame ($59, thebay.com), was indeed unlike any other perfume launch. But hours before she hosted a masquerade ball at New York’s Guggenheim that brought out the A-list (Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang) and the WTF List (Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton), Lady Gaga was wide awake to talk to FASHION about her post-sex rituals (pizza and a movie!), what the colour black means to her and why being a New Yorker makes her pop star perfume better than other celeb scents.
For someone who hasn’t yet smelled Fame, can you describe your fragrance?
“It’s very sexual, it’s very addictive, but it is very chic. The metaphor of the bottle is that when you spray this product, all the good things about fame come out, and all the bad things stay inside. So when you buy this perfume, you can have the lovely smell of it, [while] I’ll be dealing with all the bullshit inside.” -
Inside Tuesday night’s Topshop launch party: Coco Rocha, Harley Viera-Newton, Sir Philip Green, and a killer performance by The Kills
The Hoxton was abuzz with Brit power for the Topshop launch party and concert on Tuesday night, from main man Sir Philip Green and fashion director Kate Phelan, to Jamie Hince, one part of rock duo The Kills (more or less importantly, he’s also one part of Mr. and Mrs. Kate Moss, but you already knew that, didn’t you). Incidentally, the space was also abuzz with It girl power, from Harley Viera-Newton on the turntables, to Coco Rocha in the VIP section. While some complained of the noise, we were amongst the large group of fans including designer Samantha Beckerman, Pink Tartan gal Sarah Marantz, writer Sarah Nicole Prickett, and photographer Adam Levett, that were more than tickled to be enjoying such an intimate setting for rocking out to Hince and Alison Mosshart’s moody hits.
