Inside Tuesday night’s Topshop launch party: Coco Rocha, Harley Viera-Newton, Sir Philip Green, and a killer performance by The Kills
The Hoxton was abuzz with Brit power for the Topshop launch party and concert on Tuesday night, from main man Sir Philip Green and fashion director Kate Phelan, to Jamie Hince, one part of rock duo The Kills (more or less importantly, he’s also one part of Mr. and Mrs. Kate Moss, but you already knew that, didn’t you). Incidentally, the space was also abuzz with It girl power, from Harley Viera-Newton on the turntables, to Coco Rocha in the VIP section. While some complained of the noise, we were amongst the large group of fans including designer Samantha Beckerman, Pink Tartan gal Sarah Marantz, writer Sarah Nicole Prickett, and photographer Adam Levett, that were more than tickled to be enjoying such an intimate setting for rocking out to Hince and Alison Mosshart’s moody hits.

They said/We said: John Galliano’s Topshop collaboration, true or false?
The media just can’t get enough of John Galliano. Last month Cathy Horyn speculated that he would be reappointed to his signature label, claims that were soon proven untrue after Bill Gaytten got the job as creative director (and let’s see how long that lasts). Today, new rumours have surfaced that the former Dior designer has a new gig.
After designing Kate Moss’s wedding dress and making an unexpected appearance at the nuptials last week, Vogue UK reported that Galliano was in talks with Topshop CEO Sir Philip Green regarding a possible collaboration with the high-street megastore. According to the magazine’s website, a collection similar to the one Moss did a few years back was possibly brought up in conversation between Green and Galliano at the supermodel’s wedding.
So, is there any truth to the rumours? All signs are pointing to no. Both Green and Topshop denied any negotiations, and even though Galliano fans would still jump at the chance to own his designs at an affordable price point, it seems an alignment with the designer now still feels too risky. So, what’s everyone saying?

Fashion news: Corinne Day dies, Kate Moss and Topshop end partnership, and is Tomas Maier next up for H&M?
British fashion photographer Corinne Day died Saturday at the age of 45. Day, whose photos of Kate Moss for The Face launched the model’s career, lost her battle with a brain tumor. [Fashionista]
H&M released a video dubbed “Designer Collaborations 2010” that stars a mystery male designer, who an eagle-eyed viewer spotted as Bottega Veneta designer Tomas Maier, sparking rumours of a collaboration. Just when we swear we’ll never line up for one of these things again…. [Fashionologie]
American designer Ralph Rucci has cancelled his runway show for the this year’s New York Fashion Week. Rucci’s president Vivan Natta will be taking an extended medical leave and Rucci has decided to hold individual appointments at his Soho showroom instead, a move he says will save the company US$500,000.
