NYFW diary: Vera Wang, Marc by Marc and a private appointment at Tom Ford
Yesterday was a gem of a day. Along with my morning tea, I started the day previewing fine jewellery designer Monique Péan’s gorgeous new collection.
While there was no sign of First Lady Michelle Obama (who reportedly counts Péan’s pieces among her faves), it was inspiring to see how many other fans this CFDA runner-up has gathered in such a short time.
Speaking of fans, the NY social set, including Marina Rust, Marjorie Gubelmann and Helen Lee Schifter, was glossed, polished and freshly blown-out for the Vera Wang show. Gubelmann brought along her gal-pal (latest project?) The Hills Stephanie Pratt, who lit up when Elle’s Joe Zee crossed the floor to introduce himself.
Wang’s spring show was decidedly drab in comparison to all of the nudes and dusty desert hues seen this week. Among the many black on black looks (hey, she is a New Yorker after all) there were a few floral prints for those looking to colour their world come spring. Signature Wang accents were woven throughout the collection–a tulle trim here, a jewel encrusted neck plate there. Perfect for the toughened up modern-day romantic.

New York street style: Blue crush
We’re obviously in a velvet mood this week, so this rich blue number caught our eye. We’re not crazy about the keyhole neckline, but the outrageous jacket and lace-up booties give this look enough quirk to forgive.
See the full look after the jump.

New York street style: A canary Birkin, winged sneaks and more off-the runway looks
This streeter looks New York street chic in her voluminous grey dress, paired with a vibrant yellow Birkin, large gold hoops, reptilian peep toe pumps and a chic chignon. What can we say, we’re suckers for drama. Click the images below to see more street style looks or read our full coverage of New York […]

NYFW diary: Up close to Chanel couture, delicious bags and Diesel and more from the runway
Looking at my hair in the mirror on Monday morning, I was having an “updo” kind of moment. Turns out Diesel Black Gold was thinking the same thing. Elvis-style pompadoured models took to the runway down at Pier 92. The colour palette of choice for spring is perfect for hitting the open desert road–rich tobacco, sand, olive and cocoa.
When it came to shoes, Diesel played the high/low card with stacked heeled ankle boots vs. flat gladiators. It’s always strange to see models walk in flats on the runway. Lindsey Wixson could have been just another hipster kid headed to Soho House for brunch. But then she came out and owned it.
The item to admire from afar if you’re over 21: The dusty rose short shorts. I mean it, don’t go there.
Item to snap up when it hits shelves: A vintage-inspired mini saddle bag. Perfection.

NYFW diary: Prabal Gurung, Tommy Hilfiger’s anniversary show, and celeb-spotting at every turn
Saturday
While you lovelies were brunching and cocktailing over the weekend, I’ve was hard at work celeb-spotting at the Lincoln Centre (I spy: Carmen Electra, Kristin Bell, J. Lo, Bradley Cooper, Neil Patrick Harris, Aisha Tyler, Kelly Osbourne, Kimora Lee Simmons, Chris Bosh, Rebecca Romijn, Christina Hendricks, and so on, and so on), crossing Manhattan several times a day to attend the shows and trying to avoid the dreaded fashion week blisters that come with this job. Happily, Saturday was a sunny day in every way.Blue skies and Lacoste first up on the schedule. Creative director Christophe Lemaire nailed his version of sporty chic (lots of white, sleeveless polos, perforated short shorts and graphic prints) before heading off next season to Hermès. Was the orange carpet rolled out at Lacoste simply a cheeky way of jumping onto the saddle, so to speak?
