The Internet is (Rightfully) Losing Its Mind Over Hologram Lips
Instagram is constantly outdoing itself when it comes to beauty trends. So much so, in fact, that it’s hard to shock us anymore. Succulent nails? Been there, done that. Crystal lips? Why not! However, the latest trend, hologram lips, isn’t as shocking as it is straight up drool-worthy. Instagram users are creating out-of-this-world effects on […]

My brows are well defined, but they are unruly and gel isn’t doing the trick. What else can I use?
If you’re blessed with full brows and have no use for brow powders or pencils at all, consider yourself lucky! If you’re blessed with brows so full that they verge into unruly territory, you probably consider yourself frustrated when hairs stray from your natural shape. If gel isn’t keeping brow hairs in order, try something more pliable that will really grip hairs and keep them together, like Sigma Beauty Brow Wax ($11, sigmabeauty.com). This pencil format means convenient application. Run it through brows, and your body heat will warm the wax up, allowing you to brush it through with a spoolie into your preferred shape. -

How can I stand out in a sea of red lips this holiday season?
If there’s one thing that we know, it’s that there’s nothing more classically festive (and frankly, quite predictable) than a red lip during the holiday season. If you’re the type of person who is more comfortable going against the grain when it comes to beauty, try a reddish lip instead. Dior’s Diorific lipstick in “Winter” ($40, at Dior counters), which is a berry shade with a hint of metallic gold sheen that catches the light, really sings when paired with a violet shade. (Which, by the way, is another shade of lipstick I highly recommend as an alternate to red lips.) Try the two shades together for an ombré look, with the berry shade applied all over the lips with violet blended in from the perimetre of the lips towards the centre. The result is a stunning deep-fuschia, which will definitely set you apart from the red lips that will be everywhere this holiday season.

I go through cardboard nail files so quickly. Is there a more durable type I should try?
Too many times I have rummaged around for a nail file only to find one and discover it’s dull and essentially not usable. Not only that, but old nail files can be full of bacteria, especially cardboard files, as it’s hard to completely and effectively disinfect them—so discarding entirely is usually the safest bet. Luckily, Revlon File ‘N Peel ($5, at drugstores) has changed all that. This file is double-sided, so it offers both shaping and smoothing capabilities (standard stuff for a nail file), but it actually has three layers on each side, so that once a layer has been dulled down, you simply peel it away to reveal a fresh file ready for use! It’s the ideal solution for anyone who prefers cardboard files to glass or metal, but hates how easily cardboard files can get worn out. -
