What should I use to define my brows that will last through a day at the lake or beach?
Even if you’re in a less-is-more mood for summer, brows still need to have a place in your summer makeup routine since they are so integral to facial structure and appearance. If you find your usual pencil or powder doesn’t stand the test of time when heat comes into play, try Anastasia Dipbrow Brow Pomade ($23, sephora.ca), which essentially replaces a pencil, powder and wax in one genius pot. Use an angled brush to apply for cleanly defined brows that will stay put, even in high humidity, thanks to the waterproof formula. Available in 8 shades means you’re bound to find a match to carry you through the summer. Tip: run a spoolie through brows after applying for a softened, natural finish. -

5 products to keep your legs super smooth post-wax »
Some of the best beauty ideas out there are the ones that have been around forever, but you just haven’t tried yet. While I’ve experimented with waxing just about every body part possible, it wasn’t until a friend started raving about her monthly leg waxes that I decided to give it a go. Five sessions later and my skin has never felt smoother. (Also, you know those hard-to-shave spots, like knees and the back of your thighs? You better believe wax can take care of that.)
With summer just around the corner, now’s definitely the time to embrace leg waxing. To make sure you get the most out of your session, I sat down with Florence Gaven, co-owner of Toronto’s Fuzz Wax Bar, to find out her top leg waxing tips.

Not all argan oils are created equal—though they should be, considering that it’s really just 100% pure oil from kernels of Moroccan argan trees. However, like all trendy beauty ingredients, argan oil is one of the latest ingredients to reach mass popularity, appearing in everything from shampoos to body washes to lotions. But why not […]

Spice route: The history behind Yves Saint Laurent’s latest skincare development
Photography: Product by Carlo Mendoza; Saint Laurent by Guy Marineau Yves Saint Laurent found beauty and inspiration in Morocco, and now its natural bounty has yielded a precious skin-preserving ingredient known as red gold: saffron.
A young Yves Saint Laurent, looking relaxed and casual in a white open-necked shirt and white flares, strolls through Marrakech’s Djemaa El Fna square, chatting to a Marrakchi woman with a basket atop her head. It’s one of many personal snapshots from the book Yves Saint Laurent: Une Passion Marocaine, handwritten in French by his partner in business and life, Pierre Bergé. Saint Laurent was fascinated by the goings on in the square, often walking there to watch the acrobats, snake charmers and gnawa dancers who still bring life, music and art to the city today.

Afternoon Delight: Feel like you’re sleeping on a bed of roses with this overnight skincare solution
While I’m obsessed with wearing about a thousand skincare products during the day (what, you don’t apply something between your toner and serum step too?) at night I’m all about doing as little as possible. And lately, that “little” has been a healthy coat of Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate. I love pressing it into my […]

What are hydrosols? Everything you need to know about this all-natural beauty booster
Photography by Andrea Victory-LaCasse What’s a hydrosol? Commonly called floral waters, hydrosols are becoming increasingly popular in all-natural and organic beauty products. Less concentrated and more mellow than essential oils, hydrosols still possess the healing and aromatic applications of aromatherapy and are often used in place of water in natural products. By boiling plant materials (petals, roots, leaves, you name it) with water, oils and essences are released into the steam as it rises and collects in a separate container. Once cooled, the oil that remains is essential oil, and the steam that settles becomes a hydrosol.

Afternoon delight: SkinCeuticals’ Phloretin CF antioxidant gives good skin
Antioxidants are one of those products that you don’t really know you need to use until an expert lectures-slash-informs you, and then you’ll wonder how your skin’s survived this long without. Think of antioxidants as a super-packed serum: You apply it post-cleanser and pre-moisturizer, so your skin can really absorb all of the vitamins within. […]

Skin finish fixes: How to get dewy, matte or luminous skin
Product photography by Carlo Mendoza; Model photography and makeup by Dallas Curow; Model: Angelika/The Rock Agency See the skin finish tips and tricks »
One of the easiest (and often overlooked) ways to switch up your makeup look is by changing the finish of your foundation. It might seem like a small thing, but skin finish—the texture and amount of luminosity of your foundation—has a big effect on any look. In fact, many eras of beauty are in part defined by the skin finish that accompanied them, for better or for worse. Where full-coverage, matte foundation accompanied the brown beauty palette of the mid-90s, shimmering skin went hand-in-hand with the lavish application of bronzer in J. Lo’s early-aughts heyday.
Of the many variations on skin finish, three stand out as classics: luminous, dewy and matte. Let’s explore these different variations, learn which products you need to pull them off and how to pair them with complementary makeup for best results.

Exclusive: Jennifer Aniston talks to us about Aveeno’s oats and why Canadians have the best skin
If you’re going to get schooled on oats then it might as well be from Jennifer Aniston. Yes, you read that correctly, oats. Did you think I was going to say yoga? A chatty and upbeat Aniston, brand ambassador for Aveeno, spoke to us exclusively from Los Angeles about “The Beauty of Nature,” a four-video series she narrates which highlight the ingredients used in the brand’s skincare.
The first one, “Oat for Your Skin,” which celebrates the nifty little grain full of antioxidants, enzymes, lipids, proteins and vitamins that are vital for healthy skin, debuts today. As Aniston explains, the videos offer a behind the scenes look at the beginnings of an Aveeno product. “It’s an informative journey of the product and how it goes from the farm into the bottle.”

3D printing, epigenetics and telomeres: 3 futuristic areas inspiring high-performance anti-aging skincare
Photography by Carlo Mendoza Flexible glass is coming soon to curved cellphone displays. Suspension furniture held together by tension is eliminating the need for glue. And 3D printing is being used everywhere from the medical world—to recreate miniature human kidneys and livers in hopes of eventually using them in transplants—to the runway, where Dutch designer Iris van Herpen incorporated it into her couture collection last July.
The ways in which we’re now able to change a form’s shape are multiplying by the minute. Referring to the trend as “shape creation,” Loretta Miraglia, corporate senior vice-president of global brand product development and innovation at La Mer, says she believes it’s the third industrial revolution. “It’s going to influence almost every industry, including ours.” And it’s what inspired her to bring the concept to anti-aging skincare with The Lifting Contour Serum ($330, at Holt Renfrew).
