Kate Middleton attends a royal reception for Olympic and Paralympic athletes in custom Alice by Temperley
See our full gallery of all of Kate Middleton’s outfits! »
When we heard that Kate Middleton would be attending royal reception at Buckingham Palace to honour the Team GB Olympic and Paralympic medalists, we assumed the duchess would wear something blue—and when it was further revealed that the athletes would be wearing their formal Team GB attire, we added “designed by Stella McCartney” to our guess. After all, Kate Middleton wore the same blue Stella McCartney dress to two Olympic engagements back in July and she’s quite fond of matching her outfits to the occasion. But! We were wrong: instead of Olympic blue, Kate celebrated in a black and cream Alice by Temperley dress. While the duchess doesn’t often wear black (we had actually thought there were royal rules about when the colour was appropriate) the dress complemented the all-black Team GB attire of the other guests and allowed Kate to stand out—without taking the spotlight. Another thing to note about the dress is that it’s completely custom.

Despite the fact that William and Harry are also Olympic ambassadors, it’s no surprise (to us, at least!) that Kate Middleton is the most popular royal at various London 2012 celebrations. Yesterday she took part in her first medal ceremony, presenting the gold for men’s discus. And because Kate always knows how to dress the part, she ditched her usual Team GB uniform for a more official-looking outfit.

Pictures from today’s Paralympic events brought back all the Olympic joy we’ve been missing these past few weeks—joy which includes the return of Prince William and Kate Middleton having the time of their royal lives. Our excitement over their lovey-dovey cheering of athletes was so great that it inspired the creation of FASHION’s first animated gif. (We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!) Now, onto the important topic of what Kate’s wearing:

While we’re huge fans of Kate Middleton’s ever-present Olympic uniform (Smythe blazer, Team GB polo shirt, Zara skinnies and Stuart Weitzman wedges), the ladylike white-on-white look she donned for Great Britain’s women’s hockey team bronze medal win today was decidedly refreshing.

Kate Middleton loves her Smythe blazer almost as much as her Team GB polo shirts

After a weekend of wearing navy (and a few days away from the public eye) Kate’s back on the scene in London in her classic Olympic uniform. The Duchess watched the women’s hockey semifinals last night while wearing her navy Smythe blazer, Stuart Weitzman wedges, skinny jeans and white Team GB polo shirt—making the outfit very similar to the one she wore during her meet and greet with the team back in March.

Kate Middleton spends her Olympic weekend cheering on Team GB while dressed like Team GB

It’s not often that we can say we spent the weekend doing the same things as Kate Middleton, but thanks to the Olympics dominating almost all of our time, we’ll allow this one comparison to living like the duchess. While our participation was limited to the living room couch, Kate wasn’t just celebrating in the stands: on Monday she watched the men’s Laser sailing race from a yacht!

Can we make a rule that the Olympics should always be held in London? Without a doubt, the Kate watching has been our favourite sport so far (okay, we kid… sightly) and yesterday’s bear hug from William further rewarded this sentiment. But, onto today!
