The daily steal: Tortoiseshell watch, $36
One could argue that owning a cell phone removes the need for a watch, but even if you don’t need one, don’t you just want one? This menswear-inspired faux-tortoiseshell watch Urban Outfitters ($36, urbanoutfitters.com) is an argument against the watch as pure utility. It’s the perfect accent piece for everything from a shearling jacket to […]

Fashion news: Marc Jacobs on posing nude, zitless Biebster new face of acne meds and Urban Outfitters’ painful irony

Photography by Nan Goldin, courtesy of Harper's Bazaar Marc Jacobs, who recently posed nude for the campaign of his latest men’s fragrance Bang, explained the process in an interview with Calvin Klein. “There’s nothing I can wear in this ad that isn’t going to look ridiculous. At one point, I tried jeans and a shirt, and it didn’t work. So then Juergen said, ‘Take off the clothes.’ So I did, and that became the ad…I did feel good about the way I looked, so it was easy and—well, a guy looks better to me with no clothes on than with clothes!” [Harper’s Bazaar]
Despite the fact that you can hardly walk two strides without tripping over a Zara or an H&M, both European fast fashion retailers will open their online boutiques this September. No tripping necessary. [Guardian]

The daily steal: Straw hat, $29
I was in Japan recently and the number one trend I saw on the head of every hip young thing was a straw hat, which was paired with a floral dress and a faded denim top. While the prairie girl style is not my thing, I can at least emulate part of the look with […]

Fashion news: Armani knocks off Chanel in Kennedy film, RPattz-inspired manties and subtlety is the new excess

Just what the men’s fashion world needed; Marks & Spencer will be releasing a line of men’s underwear inspired by Robert Pattinson. Our hearts go out to the dudes who succumb to these manties after being pressured by their girlfriends. [StyleList]

The daily steal: Basket-weave flats, $30
Good wicker clothing is hard to come by. Jean Paul Gaultier’s haute couture collection was inspired by Aztecs and their weaving tradition, but I just don’t have the kind of life that allows me to look like a human basket. These woven flats ($30, urbanoutfitters.com), which look a bit like pixelated snake skin, fit the […]

Fashion news: Fashion photog Brian Duffy dies, Rodarte gets Breathless and Lara Stone does CK

A model wears a bikini from Lorenzo Martone's Nycked collection. Image via WWD Just announced: Calvin Klein is bending their own conventions by selecting a single face to represent all three of his brands–Calvin Klein Collection, ck Calvin Klein, and Calvin Klein Jeans. Then again, the new CK girl Lara Stone is just a convention-bending kinda girl. [The Cut]
Details have been released about the swimsuit collection Lorenzo Martone collaborated on with jewellery designer Jules Kim. Dubbed Nycked, it’s got bows, it’s got lace and it’s got sequins. As the line is set to launch this July for Miami Swim Week, we imagine this line is perfect for, erm, not swimming. [WWD]

Fashion news: Claudia Schiffer photos interpreted as racist, Crocs save a life and Fashion’s Night Out cranks up the fun

French President Nicolas Sarkozy with wife Carla Bruni Sarkozy and Karl Lagerfeld, image via Styleite Photographs of Claudia Schiffer by Karl Lagerfeld for a Stern Fotographie 60th anniversary retrospective are being slammed as racially insensitive. In one image Schiffer is captured wearing black face, and in another the supermodel is made to look Asian. “There are not enough women of colour featured in mainstream magazines,” said Shevelle Rhule, of Pride magazine in response to the pictures. “This just suggests you can counteract the problem by using white models.” [Telegraph]
But it’s not all bad news for the Kaiser. Last night he received the Legion of Honor at the Elysée presidential palace in Paris. [Styleite]

The daily steal: Preppy slip-ons, $18
How amazing that just after learning that a follow-up to The Official Preppy Handbook is due out in September, I should stumble across these slip-ons while browsing on urbanoutfitters.com. While I’ve never summered on Cape Cod (does Lake Huron count?), I don’t own a pair of Nantucket Reds and I know not a soul named […]
