  • Emma Watson at the Golden Globes: Inside her red carpet and after party looks

Emma Watson Golden Globes Red Carpet After Party

Whether she’s chopping her locks or wearing Brit-designed mix prints, Emma Watson has become one of our favourite Hollywood risk takers. Her style evolution from awkward teen to slick ingénue was never more present than at last night’s Golden Globe awards, where she wowed the crowd with a Christian Dior dress-over-skirt combo on the red carpet. From the front, Watson’s dress appeared demure—a short-sleeved dress with a high slit. From the back, it revealed cropped cigarette trousers, which she paired with Dior earrings and violet cross-strapped Roger Vivier pumps.

Last night’s New York premiere of Girls Season Three was like something out of my fantasies. Natasha Lyonne, Steve Buscemi, Gaby Hoffman and Anna Wintour (in a Spring 2014 Prada fur) all at one party. Holy wow. Given how much “the ladies” (a.k.a. me) adore the show, its pretty fitting that I’d be seething with jealousy at this motley crew. So, like… can I at least pick apart their outfits? Just kidding, I have nothing bad to say.

Co-stars Lena Dunham, Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke and Zosia Mamet pulled the colour co-ordination card, all favouring shimmering metallic, a forthcoming Spring 2014 trend, in their looks for the night.

  • Anna Kendrick vs. Nina Dobrev: Who wore Elie Saab best on the red carpet?

Elie Saab was a red carpet favourite this past weekend, with stars from coast to coast favouring colourful numbers from the Lebanese designer. It was hard to miss Anna Kendrick and Nina Dobrev and their stunning looks deserve a closer look—as well as a vote for who wore Elie Saab best.

On the east coast, Anna Kendrick attended the 36th Kennedy Center Honors Gala in Washington, D.C. She wore a lace-paneled Elie Saab dress from the pre-Fall 2013 collection in a vibrant shade of coral. A neutral lining kept the sheer panels from being too revealing—a good thing to consider when you’re attending an event with the Obamas. Kendrick accessorized with a shimmering brown Rauwolf clutch that matched her flowing curls, while a tangerine lip completed the complementary beauty look.

  • Florence Welch vs Karlie Kloss: Who wore the long-sleeved dress best?

Last night’s gala at the American Museum of Natural History brought out much of New York City’s social set (including almost the entire cast of Saturday Night Live) but it was Florence Welch and Karlie Kloss who caught our eye, both in stunning floor-length gowns and full sleeves. With the crisp, cold weather settling in for the season, it’s no wonder that full-coverage dresses are getting so much play on the red carpet. (And what better to wear when you’re spending the evening inside an expansive—and likely drafty—museum?)

For the Florence and the Machine singer, it was all about a dreamy metallic look from the Valentino Spring 2014 collection. The sheer dress was made up of layers of tulle, adorned with a patchwork of satin panels and embroidered folkloric designs. Welch completed the look with simple grey pumps and a red box clutch. As for her hair and makeup, a milkmaid braid (very Spring 2012 Valentino, no?) and red lip tied it all together.

  • Jessica Biel vs. Alexa Chung: Who wore Chanel best at last night’s MoMa film benefit?

Coco Chanel once advocated wearing white way past Labour Day, so it’s only fitting that we’d find two current style icons following in her footsteps while wearing none other than Chanel. At the sixth annual MoMa Film Benefit last night in New York, Jessica Biel and Alexa Chung were dressed in two very different white tweed looks from the label’s recent resort and couture collections. The benefit also honoured Tilda Swinton for her contribution to cinema on her 53rd birthday, which, serendipitously, is also Chung’s. Talk about a lucky day!

Jessical Biel wore a contour hugging white tweed Resort 2014 dress featuring two front pockets, golden chain details around the shoulders and bust. Topping things off with a white and black plexiglas minaudière, Biel added some aqua eyeliner for a pop of colour against a neutral pink lip and a simple cat eye. A brown metallic pump adds the perfect contrast against the gold chain detail and glossy clutch.

Taylor Swift was one busy girl this past weekend, as she hopped from honour to the next. And just as she doesn’t disappoint in the star quality department, neither did she with wardrobe.

To accept the Songwriter/Artist of the year award (her sixth so far!) presented by the Nashville Songwriters Association International, the star upped the sparkle factor with a shimmering sheath dress by label Houghton. The dress showed off her long gams while her silver Christian Louboutin sandals were the right amount of shine to complement it. For beauty, Swift kept to bold lashes and eyeliner for both looks but opted for a rarely seen pink lip for her sparkly outfit.

At the unveiling of the Taylor Swift Education Centre in Nashville, she showed up in an LDB to play the part of charming ribbon cutter. The modest knee length Elie Saab dress featured a sheer paneled neckline and an A-line flared skirt. Adding burgundy Miu Miu heels maintained the demure look that was completed with a red pout like only Swift can pull off.

Earlier today in Paris, sisters Dakota and Elle Fanning sat front row at Louis Vuitton’s Spring 2014 show to see Marc Jacobs’ final collection for the fashion house. The Fanning girls, who both appeared in past campaigns for Marc Jacobs’ own namesake brand, go tête-à-tête in today’s best dressed feature.

Dakota Fanning wore a floor grazing black dress of sheer lace layers from the Louis Vuitton Resort 2014 collection. Her accessories included a black monogrammed LV clutch and black open toe sandals. Mimicking her sister, Elle Fanning picked her look from the same collection, appearing leggy in an all white artfully embroidered mini skirt and a matching loose long sleeved top. Her pick was a great contrast to her sister’s all black and her teal wedge sandals added just the right pop of colour to her all frosty look. Dakota loosely tied her hair while Elle let hers hang on her shoulders. Both girls went for simple makeup with a rosy lipstick, Dakota’s was slightly matte and Elle’s glossy.

In today’s best-dressed battle, two notable singing starlets duke it out for style supremacy at Chanel’s Spring 2014 show in Paris.

With fire engine lips and sleek coiffed hair, British singer Rita Ora showed her support by donning a gunmetal dress flecked with silver dust from Chanel’s fall collection. The dress was complete with sharp pin needle feathers in hues of cloudy blue, snowy white, and delicate nude while glossy leather accents made their appearance on the cuffs, pockets, and its hem. She completed her flashy outfit with a pair of matte pumps and a chrome Chanel clutch.

  • Coco Rocha vs. Diane Kruger: Who was best dressed on the Metropolitan Opera red carpet?

This week, two former FASHION cover girls duke it out in the battle of who wore it best. Dun dun dun… On Monday night, Diane Kruger and Coco Rocha walked the red carpet at opening night of the Metropolitan Opera’s production of Eugene Onegin in New York.

Repping her homeboys like the great Canuck that she is, Coco Rocha stunned in a midnight blue gown from Greta Constantine’s Fall 2013 collection. The dress featured intricately curved folds on the waist and bodice which peeped a little skin here and there, making for the ultimate red carpet bodycon statement. The model mildly slicked back her recently cropped do and went for a bold cat eye and coral lips.

On the flip side, Diane Kruger was polished in a black, white and red colourblocked Prabal Gurung gown and Casedei pumps. The German actress chose minimal makeup, wearing a neutral dusty rose lip and pronounced lashes. She opted for a deep side-parted do with a slight fringe slicked back into a bun.

  • Michelle Dockery vs. Sofia Vergara: Who wore red best at Emmys 2013?

Join us as we still float in the sartorial high of last night’s Emmys and take a closer look at some of our standouts. Though blush coloured gowns were the most popular of the evening, Sofia Vergara and Michelle Dockery deviated towards berry tones.

Sofia Vergara looked ravishing in a vibrant red Vera Wang gown accessorized with tri-jewel toned Lorraine Schwartz earrings. The mermaid silhouette dress did wonders for the Modern Family star’s curves and the v-cut neckline showed just enough décolletage to cause a few double takes.

Opting for a more sedate approach to her Emmys’ look, Michelle Dockery wore a top to toe Prada ensemble. She wore a two-toned halter dress that had a fitted red top and a pleated deep burgundy skirt. The Downton Abbey star completed her Prada look with Fred Leighton jewellery and an embellished clutch.

For their beauty looks both actresses opted for neutral hued lips, bold lashes and parted hair. Sofia went with a middle part and hanging curls while Michelle’s bob was in the night’s popular side part.

  • Blake Lively vs. Cate Blanchett: Who looked best at Milan Fashion Week?

Last night, Vogue Italia and P&G Prestige hosted quite the fancy event in Milan. Described as a magical journey that engaged all senses, the Beauty in Wonderland exhibit was a multisensory experience promoting P&G brands with instillations. And since a fashion event is never complete without a star-studded guest list, Blake Lively and Cate Blanchett, the faces of Gucci and Armani respectively, lent their star power while in town for Milan Fashion Week.

Switching gears from her leather body-hugging dress at Gucci, Blake Lively showed off a sportier side at last night’s event in a look straight off the runway, literally. Baring toned arms, the blonde bombshell arrived in a shimmering black halter Gucci jumpsuit from the Spring 2014 collection, which featured metallic green piping down the sides. With her hair in a messy updo, subtle smoky eyes and neutral pink lips, Lively made her laid back outfit look unquestionably luxe, making us quite nostalgic for her Serena van der Woodsen days.

Known for her statuesque beauty and classic style, Cate Blanchett channeled her playful side last night. The Australian actress arrived in a sleeveless tricolour dress by Prabal Gurung from the Resort 2014 collection, which featured a knee-length red and white skirt heavily embroidered with ostrich feathers. Finishing off her look with black peep-toed heels, Blanchett kept her beauty look relatively simple in a no-fuss updo and statement red lips.

  • Olivia Palermo versus Blake Lively: Who wore monochromatic leather best in the front row?

When it’s Fashion Month, there’s no time to waste! The last day of London Fashion Week has quickly turned into the first day of the Spring 2014 shows in Milan. As such, we’re sharing stand-out a front row look from each city: IRL socialite Olivia Palermo and our favourite faux Upper East Side girl Blake Lively both channeled a glossy, monochromatic leather look when attending shows in London and Milan.

From London, Olivia Palermo was perfectly poised at the Anya Hindmarch show in a soft, dusty-rose ensemble. She wore a light white sweater, dusty-rose leather pants and a tonal matched blazer. Choosing the casual route, Palermo completed her on-trend pink look with a pair of animal-print flats and a grey Anya Hindmarch handbag that featured a statement-making yellow lining. A neutral pink lip, slight cat-eye and emphasized lashes went well with her ladylike-hued outfit.

Over in Milan, the Gucci show kicked off fashion week and Blake Lively added some A-list power to the front row. The actress was a vision in a marigold Gucci leather dress and matching belt. The leather halter dress was left to shine when paired with Gucci bronze heels and a neutral clutch. As for her makeup, Lively went for a sophisticated red lip while her honey-blonde hair was side parted and left loose, somewhat of a signature style for the Gossip Girl star.

While we envy Lively, who shared a few front row laughs with Anna Wintour, and give props to Palermo for finishing off London Fashion Week in stylish form we still have to ask, who had the best leather look?
