Inside the Hermès Swinging Silks party: 16 photos of Toronto’s most impeccably costumed donning varsity jackets, victory rolls and cat-eyes while swing dancing

Hermès turned the clocks back to the days of Cry-Baby and Marty McFly last Thursday, as Toronto’s most impeccably costumed hit the Berkeley Church for a rockabilly themed dance party. Thrown for no apparent reason but to celebrate one of the things Hermès does best, the event, entitled “Swinging Silks” had the brand’s iconic silk prints indeed swinging throughout the building: on bannisters, around wrists, from ceilings and of course, from the glammed up ponytails of various attendees. And speaking of ponytails, as full rockabilly guise seemed of utmost importance, Hermès had a mini salon set up shop to transform attendees with victory rolls, red lips and cat-eyes. To boot, there was also a tattoo booth, where apropos designs were painted (I opted for a single teardrop).

Inside Lainey Gossip’s latest Toronto SMUT Soiree: Dirt diehards get lash applications while dirty Skarsgård and Travolta details are leaked!
Dirt diehards came from Thunder Bay, Ottawa, London and even Montreal for Toronto’s 7th Annual Smut Soiree to hear Elaine “Lainey” Lui dish with Dan Levy as her wingman. Held at Evergreen Brickworks, and hosted by The Society and Laineygossip.com, the event was rampant with girls putting on their try, with a sea of jersey, towering heels and neon accessories as far as the eye could see. Stations offering press-on manicures by Broadway nails, lashes by Ardell, makeup applications by Stila and hair primping by John Frieda stylists were being mobbed like a Twilight premiere.
But gossip was the main event, and promptly at 8:30 p.m., the talk was flowing. Among the revelations:

Inside Power Ball 2012: Kobos on trees, a mock television talk show, a bison on a spit, a performance by Dragonette (and much much much more)
Lauded as the hottest art party of the year, the Power Plant’s annual Power Ball fundraiser certainly lived up to expectations last night. Complete with wall-projected animations, Kobos hanging on trees, an old fashioned swing and a pre-party hosted by the much-hyped Soho House, almost 2,000 partygoers danced into the wee hours while carving off pieces of Marc Thuet’s bison on a spit. Some of our favourite duos—The Society’s Ashleigh Dempster and Amanda Blakely, designer Philip Sparks and NOW’s Andrew Sardone, Knot PR’s Amy Burstyn-Fritz and Tatiana Read, designer Jeremy Laing and Frank Griggs, and eTalk’s Tanya Kim and CP24’s Melissa Grelo—flitted around the scene. There was a mock television talk show (which we took part in) with a dancing robot sharing hosting duties. There was a performance by Dragonette. There were ladies dressed as sailors and men dressed as women. There were, always, many types of cocktails a-flowing (shout-out to Grey Goose, who created a timely Diamond Jubilee mix at the pre-party). Surely, more highlights will come to us throughout the day, but we can’t be asked to recount them all, given how late we were up.

Inside the 2nd Annual Society Cup: The Beckerman sisters, gin cocktails, petticoats, and croquet!
Last weekend, for a change of pace from TIFF-related line ups and over-crowded after parties, the Society hosted its 2nd Annual Society Cup alongside Hendrick’s Gin, hosted by the Beckerman sisters, Caillianne and Samantha, of the fashion blog Beckerman Bite Plate. The girls—who brought mom and dad out to join in the revelry—wore matching top hats and DIY safety pin–studded vests, and acted as ringmasters over the courtyard of Hart House, which was sectioned off into various game spaces for bocce, badminton, croquet, and three-legged races.
