For those in pursuit of statement frames without the statement price tag, Canadian television personality Dan Levy has the answer(s) to your optical woes. His new label, D.L Eyewear came home for a trunk show and party at west end boutique Jonathan + Olivia last Thursday, where party-goers including Lainey Gossip’s Elaine Lui, MTV Canada’s Sharlene Chiu and the designer’s own funny-guy dad Eugene Levy sipped drinks as they tried on the event’s debut design, Whitehall, which is priced at just $95.

The collection reflects Levy’s own optical sensibilities with unisex thick-framed options in a variety of shades including matte black and deep amber tortoise. And, with such a trigger happy price point, the poster boy for thick frames is making good on sharing his statement accessory with us all.

The rain couldn’t keep gossipmongers away from Lainey Gossip’s 9^th Annual Smut Soiree. The self appointed Dean of the Faculty of Celebrity Studies opened her dirt discussion, moderated by entertainment reporter Teri Hart, with the promise of “gossip jizz” and we all leaned in (not in the Sheryl Sandberg way), eyes widening. Dirt diehards came from Thunder Bay, Ottawa, London and even Montreal for Toronto’s 7th Annual Smut Soiree to hear Elaine “Lainey” Lui dish with Dan Levy as her wingman. Held at Evergreen Brickworks, and hosted by The Society and Laineygossip.com, the event was rampant with girls putting on their try, with a sea of jersey, towering heels and neon accessories as far as the eye could see. Stations offering press-on manicures by Broadway nails, lashes by Ardell, makeup applications by Stila and hair primping by John Frieda stylists were being mobbed like a Twilight premiere.

But gossip was the main event, and promptly at 8:30 p.m., the talk was flowing. Among the revelations:

Vancouver’s most enthusiastic gossip hounds headed to the city’s first, and hotly anticipated, SMUT Soiree at Vancouver Urban Winery last night, hosted by The Society and LaineyGossip.com. The cocktail party and panel discussion, led by eTalk correspondent and famed gossip Elaine “Lainey” Lui and television host-slash-actor, Dan Levy, dished the dirt for a hungry audience, finally served after envying Toronto’s six-year SMUT streak. For Lainey, it was only fitting that she indulge her adopted home and have Levy join her in moderating the panel, because Vancouver is where the two originally “fell in love” when covering the city’s 2010 Olympic Winter Games. “That’s when we became boyfriend and girlfriend,” she joked.

The proud friend told both me and the audience that her BFF had just returned from filming Admission, a film starring Tina Fey, Paul Rudd and Michael Sheen, but despite her beaming endorsement, Levy modestly added, “I don’t have a very big part, so let’s not inflate things.” Related: Dan, sharing the big screen with Tina Fey (!!!) needs no inflating.

T’was the Night we dressed in our finest holiday attire for a fully-fledged mall party to celebrate the multimillion dollar TD Square/Holt Renfrew renovations at Calgary’s CORE Shopping Centre. The CORE lit up indoor fireworks and a 45-foot tree, sprinkled fluffy fake snow from the balconies, and a threw a mini concert with Canadian songstress Chantal Kreviazuk, all on top of some lofty holiday sales and prizes.

Greeting guests on the red carpet was the queen of smut, Elaine Lui of Lainey Gossip and eTalk, who posed for fan photos in a form-fitting, blue and white Yigal Azrouël number. The belle of the mall-ball, however, was Kreviazuk, who got pampered at Eveline Charles before taking the stage in a whimsical, feathered Paul Hardy gown, and later, at the VIP lounge, where she signed autographs and posed for photos with Mr. Hardy himself.

Overheard: The celebs were really into the ping pong tables at the Soho House last night, namely Justin Long and Michael Fassbender.
