CAFA Awards 2015: 35 glitzy pictures of Canada’s fashion industry all dressed up
If there were ever an excuse to wear Canadian, it was Saturday’s second annual Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards (CAFA), which took Toronto’s swanky Fairmont Royal York hotel by literal storm. In the thick of Hollywood’s awards season, the CAFAs were probably as close to the Oscars as anything we’ll ever attend, with homegrown designers […]

TIFF 2013: Inside the intimate dinner party with Jessica Chastain for The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby

Jessica Chastain wiped away tears of joy following the premiere of The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, explaining to the TIFF audience how happy she was to finally make a film with her friend of 10 years, director Ned Benson.
The 3-hour+ epic is actually two films back to back, and unspools the same story twice: first from a husband’s point of view, then from his wife’s. Demanding? Yes. Emotionally draining? Perhaps.
Still, the mood at the after-dinner for the cast, hosted by the Hudson’s Bay Co. at The Chase, was buoyant. And how could it not be? Stars James McAvoy, Jess Weixler, Ciaran Hinds and the luminous Chastain, in a chiffony aqua Versace, chatted up the crowd which included designer Wayne Clark, The Bay’s Nicholas Mellamphy and Suzanne Timmins and Barbara Amiel, pretty in pink and white Erdem from The Room.

Inside the CFC Gala: 25 pictures of Toronto’s film and television elite celebrating 25 years of the CFC
See all 25 party pictures from the CFC Gala! »
It’s a strange feeling to arrive at a party in Toronto in the middle of the winter and see a paparazzi scrum positioned outside the doors, but when you’re attending an event hosted by the Canadian Film Centre, such is the case. Last week the CFC celebrated its 25th anniversary with an extravagant gala and silent auction at the Carlu. It was likely the rumours of Ryan Reynolds showing up—perhaps with his new bride Blake Lively!—that caused the tabloid interest. (However, the pair was content to stay in Sudbury, sorry paps!) So who were the 500-plus guests celebrating 25 years of the CFC? Both talent and behind-the-scenes players from Canada’s film and television industry were in attendance, including stars from Murdoch Mysteries, The Listener and Republic of Doyle. While the dress code called for black tie, the majority of guests opted for a Justin Timberlake-approved suit and tie over a tuxedo.

Lorenzo Martone hits Toronto for the Prada book launch and some mystery meetings
Last night, Prada held its first Toronto bash since the party for the opening of the Bloor Street location in 1997. It took the launch of a Prada book to warrant another celebration, and the delay only seemed to heighten the thrill. Devoted followers of fashion’s highest priestess, Miuccia, paid homage by arriving in her black lace sheaths, metal-coated wools, and this season’s studded shirts and shoes. But it wasn’t wall-to-wall Prada: Stacey Kimel, who was squiring around Marc Jacobs’ beau Lorenzo Martone, wore winged Balmain while Martone’s feet glowed in a pair of Louis Vuitton sneakers scribbled with Stephen Sprouse graffiti.
