FASHION & The Room Team Up to Showcase Fall 2018’s Best Looks
On a sunny summer day, the FASHION team set off for a shoot with an unlikely litter of models—a half-dozen rescue dogs, courtesy of Dog Tales Rescue and Sanctuary in King City, Ont. Tufts of fur, wagging tails and panting tongues aren’t typical accessories for a fashion spread, but they served as the perfect plus-ones […]

Inside Roland Mouret’s Fall 2016 bash at The Room
If there was a spike in Google searches yesterday for “Roland Mouret,” here’s why: almost nobody at the party for the French designer knew what he looked like. In a world where designers strive to become Instagram stars, that’s a rarity. “I prefer my dresses to be famous,” Mouret explained surrounded by fans at The […]

Thom Browne hits The Room: Inside the Toronto party celebrating fashion’s kookiest designer
See the Thom Browne party shots » The fall season has its fair share of stylish events, but when The Room at Hudson’s Bay rolls out its carpet, you generally know that it’s not one to miss. The latest of the retailer’s epic Toronto fêtes was in honour of Thom Browne, the New York-based designer […]

Daphne Guinness hits Toronto for the opening of The Room’s Isabella Blow exhibit
Last night’s Fashion Blows, held in The Room at Hudson’s Bay Queen Street and named for the late fashion maverick Isabella Blow, was a fashion feast, between the guests (Stacey Jordan and Amoryn Engel in feathered headdresses! A turbaned Nicholas Mellamphy in embroidered Vika Gazinskaya robe!) and the trippy McQueens on display from Blow’s own […]

The Room at Hudson’s Bay fêtes Brit shoe designers Nicholas Kirkwood and Sophia Webster
The Room at Hudson’s Bay went full Anglo on Tuesday night with its celebration of two Brit shoe designers, Nicholas Kirkwood and Sophia Webster. Held in the store’s palatial new shoe department (seriously, it’s 20,000 square feet), the soiree served as a shoe shopping kick off as well as, well, just another excuse to party. Toronto’s style setters were in fine pre-fashion week form, pulling out all the outfit stops and the Nicholas Kirkwood chevrons to boot.
Kim Tanenbaum modelled her mother-in-law Carole Tanenbaum’s jewels just perfectly overtop an all-black outfit and Kirkwood’s wholesale director Josephine Papasavvas brought the party’s requisite Peter Pilotto factor alongside a stomach-bearing crop top. West end cred was sufficiently represented by Prince Innocence’s Talvi Faustmann and Josh McIntyre, who matched in long black trench coats. Hair statementing was a thing too, especially for a certain top-knotted shoe associate who delighted us with his kabuki-like appearance and definitive newness on the scene. You go girl.

TIFF 2013: Inside the intimate dinner party with Jessica Chastain for The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby
See The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby dinner party photos »
Jessica Chastain wiped away tears of joy following the premiere of The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, explaining to the TIFF audience how happy she was to finally make a film with her friend of 10 years, director Ned Benson.
The 3-hour+ epic is actually two films back to back, and unspools the same story twice: first from a husband’s point of view, then from his wife’s. Demanding? Yes. Emotionally draining? Perhaps.
Still, the mood at the after-dinner for the cast, hosted by the Hudson’s Bay Co. at The Chase, was buoyant. And how could it not be? Stars James McAvoy, Jess Weixler, Ciaran Hinds and the luminous Chastain, in a chiffony aqua Versace, chatted up the crowd which included designer Wayne Clark, The Bay’s Nicholas Mellamphy and Suzanne Timmins and Barbara Amiel, pretty in pink and white Erdem from The Room.

Inside The Room’s Viktor & Rolf party: 31 photos of fashion’s who’s who coming out of hibernation for spring
See The Room’s Viktor & Rolf party photos »
Viktor & Rolf’s love affair with Toronto began last night with a fittingly springy fête at Toronto’s Hudson’s Bay Queen Street flagship. In town to celebrate their recent collections as well as to do press spots for their upcoming Dolls retrospective exhibit with Luminato this summer, designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren sported matching embroidered jeans (Horsting’s featured sunglasses while Snoeren’s featured moustaches) and matching thick rimmed frames, making them the ideal models for Toronto’s new eyewear-specific blog, The Spectacled.
In keeping with the Dutch duo’s eccentricities, The Room was transformed with newly papered walls featuring the Fall 2013 runway room’s eerie black and white floral print, a string quartet playing instrumental takes on pop music and strapping waiters, who passed many a prettily-decorated Perrier-Jouët champagne flute while wearing V&R-esque (and maybe even a little Denis Gagnon) glasses.

What’s in your bag, Roksanda Ilincic?
Go inside Roksanda Ilincic’s bag »
There are a few things you can safely assume about a designer just by looking at their stuff. And in the case of London-based designer Roksanda Ilincic, you can figure this: She’s arty. Between the inspiration behind her Spring 2013 collection (an Opposites Day combo of Niki de Saint Phalle and Josef Albers) and Fall 2013’s fabric play (she blended baby pink PVC and taffeta on evening coats and used laminated lace on dresses), she’s a regular renaissance girl. You can also figure she’s ladylike inclined, given her consistent leanings towards dresses, collared coats and embellished eveningwear). One thing, however, that you (or at least I) couldn’t have known, is how breathtaking she is to behold IRL. I met the Serbian-born beauty last month when she was in town at The Room at Hudson’s Bay and was completely confounded at first glance. The violet eyed, porcelain-skinned, raven-haired designer is over six feet in heels. She’s the perfect model for her clothing, (she wore the opening look from her spring collection during daytime press interviews and this dress from fall for dinner later that night at the buzzy Bent restaurant) as is the similarly slender Duchess of Cambridge, who has worn her dresses in the past. “It’s a huge privilege and such honour and to have somebody like her wearing my dresses. I’m just really, truly honoured I must say,” she raved. To boot, she carries a beautiful purse—a purple satin clutch from her own collection that mirrors the effects of Mary Poppins’ bag. So, as if this ado hasn’t enticed you enough, have a look for yourself.

Inside the Mugler event at the Bay Vancouver: 23 photos of partygoers skipping out on election night to meet Nicola Formichetti
View the Mugler party photos »
A good-looking crowd of Vancouverites elected to put on their Tuesday Best (lipstick, heels, an exaggerated shoulder) last night and head to The Room at the Bay rather than sit at home in sweatpants glued to the Obama-Romney battle royal. What lured them away from CNN? Two other men, Mugler creative director Nicola Formichetti and women’s designer Sébastien Peigné, plus an exhibition of out-of-this-world dresses from the archives.

Inside Topshop Queen Street: We tour the It Brit label’s latest shop-in-shop at the Bay
Check out the pictures from the new store!
It Brit megabrand Topshop has finally gotten a space to call their own in downtown Toronto. After opening a two-floor shop-in-shop at Yorkdale Shopping Centre last year (and kicking it all off with a blowout party featuring Coco Rocha, The Kills and Harley Viera Newton, to boot), Topshop has one-upped its first Canadian location, by opening an expanded spot at The Bay Queen Street. What used to be a small selection of the brand’s wears has been transformed into a 19,000 square feet of mirrored mecca rivaled only by its predecessor.
Topshop is loved by the likes of Kate Moss and Alexa Chung, so you know the brand is top notch. The Bay’s new Queen Street shop-in-shop has been filled with fur hats, two-tone purses and graphic sweaters that all seem just perfect for an early shopping spree. While the clothing is fine and dandy and we’d be happy to carry armfuls of clothing out of there, upon spotting the shoe section, we almost fainted.
