Lipstick Diaries: 6 trendsetters known for wearing a statement lip share their favourite shades
If the recent runways are any indication, the fixation with rich, outré lip colours isn’t fading anytime soon. From metallic purple (Fendi) to fluoro-pink (Christian Dior) to burning red (Marni), makeup artists have ignited a newfound appreciation for highly individualized hues. Yet for certain style and beauty influencers, a bold swipe of colour across the lips is a defining feature that separates them from the pack. More than a spritz of perfume or a faithful handbag, lipstick conveys the nuances of their personality, making them instantly recognizable. Here, we asked our favourite lipstick devotees to bare all when it comes to their shades and brands of choice, how they discovered their prized hues and their expert application tricks.

This past weekend, a number of A-listers attended one of summer’s most stylish social events in Liberty State Park, New Jersey: the Sixth Annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. Celebrating the sunshine on the first of June, many well-dressed celebrities were spotted including a dapper-looking co-host, Matthew McConaughey in a three-piece linen suit and wife Camila Alves in a yellow Herve Leger dress by his side. Models, Olympic athletes and style icons like Leigh Lezark, Ashley Olsen and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld also made their way down the red carpet looking fabulous in florals, stripes and spring colours.
The Olsen sisters are famous for their bohemian and minimalist red carpet looks. So at her first public event since the Met Gala last month, it was no surprise to see that Ashley Olsen wore another eastern-inspired dress. Dressed in a vintage red kaftan dress with gold embroidery down the front, neck and sleeves, she paired her vintage look with black Hermès studded sandals, aviator sunglasses and a small off-white shoulder bag by her label, The Row.

Inside The Room’s Viktor & Rolf party: 31 photos of fashion’s who’s who coming out of hibernation for spring

Viktor & Rolf’s love affair with Toronto began last night with a fittingly springy fête at Toronto’s Hudson’s Bay Queen Street flagship. In town to celebrate their recent collections as well as to do press spots for their upcoming Dolls retrospective exhibit with Luminato this summer, designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren sported matching embroidered jeans (Horsting’s featured sunglasses while Snoeren’s featured moustaches) and matching thick rimmed frames, making them the ideal models for Toronto’s new eyewear-specific blog, The Spectacled.
In keeping with the Dutch duo’s eccentricities, The Room was transformed with newly papered walls featuring the Fall 2013 runway room’s eerie black and white floral print, a string quartet playing instrumental takes on pop music and strapping waiters, who passed many a prettily-decorated Perrier-Jouët champagne flute while wearing V&R-esque (and maybe even a little Denis Gagnon) glasses.
