Luminato 2014: 35 photos from the opening night gala inside one very surreal abandoned building
See the photos from Luminato 2014 Opening Gala »
A festival is never complete without an impressive party to kick it off, and last night’s Luminato art festival opening party was nothing but. Toronto’s elite, bloggers and artsy attendees joined co-chairs Rupert Duchesne, Joseph Mimran and Kimberley Newport-Mimran to mark the launch of the 10-day art festival with creative director Jörn Weisbrodt and hubby Rufus Wainwright at the helm of the festivities. Besides drawing Canadian notables like Toronto mayoral candidate Olivia Chow and celebrated stage director Atom Egoyan, Isabella Rossellini was there to promote her upcoming on-stage debut, Green Porno. In tune with the night’s theme, Berlin Underground, the opening party was held in the outskirts of downtown Toronto (Toronto Port Lands to be exact) at the Hearn Generating Station where the abandoned industrial space was transformed into a one-of-a-kind venue for a 450-deep dinner and party. Complete with leather-clad dancers/artists lounging in corners, 1930s German propaganda on projected screens and neon lights bouncing off the exposed industrial interior, the party could not have taken place in a more suitable location. Well-dressed guests (ranging from black-tie attire to jumpsuits and much-coveted crop tops) had the chance to not only get their makeup retouched by on-site YSL makeup artists in super glam vanity stations. From a hopping DJ and buzzy dance floor to a flipbook station and 3D printers, it’s safe to say that last night was nothing short of extraordinary.

Inside the Joe Fresh and Pink Tartan after party: 21 pictures that prove Wednesday is Toronto Fashion Week’s biggest night
See the Joe Fresh/Pink Tartan after party pics »
Without a doubt, Wednesday night is the biggest of Toronto Fashion Week. The show schedule is stacked with the city’s—the country’s!—greatest hits and the after party scene is getting just as competitive. To keep things interesting, Joe Fresh and Pink Tartan combined forces this season, hosting a smash of a party just down the street from the tents, at Lee Restaurant. Considering that the Pink Tartan crowd has always been a a big part of the Joe Fresh after party tradition, it just makes sense for Joe Mimran and Kimberley Newport-Mimran to make it official.
Also becoming a part of the Joe Fresh/Pink Tartan after party tradition is DJ Mad Marj, the unassuming New York-based heiress who kept the tightly packed crowd dancing, be it to 2 Chainz, Pharrell or… Nora Jones. (Seriously.) Lee’s two-room layout allowed for a bit of a divide between social sets, with fresh-from-the-runway models, stylists and party-hopping editors taking over the back room, while Mimran family friends (including the horn-blowing Bruce C. Bailey) and backstage stars filled up front of house.

Joe Fresh Fall 2014: 48 superb looks inspired by Canada’s epic winter
See the Joe Fresh Fall 2014 collection »
On the eve of its global takeover, Joe Fresh took a decidedly Canadian approach to its Fall 2014 collection, which debuted last night at World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto. Before the show, creative director Joe Mimran offered the words “stay humble,” when approaching such minor company changes as opening in 23 countries in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. But hey, that’s just another day in the life of Toronto’s suave answer to Ralph Lauren.
The polar vortex-ready collection breathed new life into winter staples, featuring a teddy-soft faux fur coat (surely a nod to this Shrimps number seen everywhere outside the fall shows), a sherpa wrap-skirt and a faux fur-topped sweatshirt amongst others. And while they may have felt a little “for-show-only”* the collection’s superb assortment of trim sweats, nubby turtlenecks and pea coats are sure to have cash registers a-chinging when they hit stores next fall.

Joe Fresh Spring 2014: The complete lookbook
See the full Joe Fresh Spring 2014 collection here »
Homegrown fashion brand Joe Fresh went full on blue for its Spring 2014 runway collection, resulting in a series of on-trend pieces that we’re sure will fit just perfectly in your closet this season.
Having taken inspiration from mod silhouettes in the past, Joe Fresh reverted back to the classic A-line, creating figure-flattering dresses in a range of geometric stripe prints. We love a bold print and the brand more than delivers with a vibrant ocean scene on a sleeveless V-neck dress as well as several floral, floral and camouflage motifs. What’s more, the brand amps up attention to detail with a painterly tromp l’oeil print on a tan trench. Scalloped edges add a girlish edge on the hems of a black-tiered skirt and polo shirt.

Joe Fresh goes international with a just-announced expansion in 23 countries worldwide
Today, Loblaw Companies Limited announced that it will expand Joe Fresh to 23 countries worldwide by way of partnership deals with three separate international firms. Fawaz A. Alhokair & Co., Retail Arabia International and Origin & Co., Ltd., will help bring Canada’s largest brand to Europe, the Middle East and Asia respectively. Not too shabby for a brand that started in the grocery aisles, eh? (We’ll just keep using that one forever.)
“These first international agreements signify an important milestone for Joe Fresh as we build on the strong foundation we’ve established at home in Canada. We continue to evolve the brand forward and I’m thrilled to see Joe Fresh grow into a global brand, developing on the success we have had in the United States since launching there in 2011,” says Joe Fresh creative director Joe Mimran via press release. The partnerships will ensure that Joe Fresh’s highly coveted brand of womenswear, menswear, kids clothing, accessories and beauty is adapted for the new markets, the first of which will be in the United Arab Emirates and Souel, South Korea, which will open flagships later this year.
