Watch Makeup Artist Liraz Jacoby Demo The Easiest Way to Wear Blue Eyeshadow
No matter how many present-day examples people see of blue eyeshadow being pulled off in a totally chic way—see here, here and here—it still manages to maintain its reputation as one of the most intimidating makeup looks. We blame it on, what else, the ’80s. That being said, we’re determined to rid blue shadow of […]

The Right Way to Wear Blue Eyeshadow
Perhaps more than any other type of makeup, blue eyeshadow has a seriously bad reputation. It immediately brings to mind some less-than-ideal things: ’80s makeup, frost and glitter up to your brow bone, and well, this. Overall, not good. But over the last couple of years, we’ve seen blue eyeshadow pop up on the runways […]

Blue makeup is back! 2 very different takes on this season’s boldest trend
Like most people, the mere mention of blue eye makeup conjures up images of frosty, powdered shades of cerulean done up in a tacky ‘80s manner. The Fall runways, however, had a totally different take on blue for eyes. The hits of blue seen at Céline, Dior et al took on many forms that sometimes […]

Ashley Benson vs. Selena Gomez: Whose hair and makeup was best at the Spring Breakers SXSW premiere
See more photos from the Spring Breakers SXSW premiere »
Known for her role as the popular blonde in Pretty Little Liars, Ashley Benson debuted newly-dyed brown hair this weekend at the SXSW premiere of Spring Breakers in Austin, Texas. It’s not easy to transition from blonde to brunette, but the colour looks natural on Benson (so, maybe it is?) especially when compared side-by-side with her Spring Breakers co-star, Selena Gomez. Gomez always wears her long, raven-to-chestnut ombre coloured hair well, and opted for loose waves with a side-part at the Spring Breakers party.
Ashley Benson, on the other hand, may still be getting used to her new colour, as she kept her hair up, styled in a messy bun. However the real glamour to her look came courtesy of the cobalt-blue eye makeup, which included heavy undereye liner that diffused into a smoky look across her lids. (Blue eyeshadow is on trend this spring, after all!) Selena Gomez was also wearing a smoky eye—though hers was a deeper shade of navy that almost looked black. Just like Benson, Gomez had a heavily lined undereye, but pulled it into more of a cat-eye shape on her upper eyelid. And were the starlets sharing a lip colour? Ashey Benson and Selena Gomez both wore a similar shade of peachy-pink lipstick.

London Fashion Week Spring 2013 backstage beauty: Magenta lips, inky eyes and more from our top 5 makeup looks
All eyes are on Milan now, but let’s not forget some of London Fashion Week Spring 2013’s best in beauty. Most refreshing was the influx of bright lips, an area of the face that didn’t get a lot of play at New York Fashion Week, where the general trend was minimal makeup and manicures—nude polish dominated as did completely bare, buffed-to-shine nails. In fact, backstage in the Big Apple makeup artists often skipped putting pigment on the mouth entirely opting for clear gloss. (One of a few notable exceptions, the matte raspberry lip at Jason Wu was awesome.) When they did pull out the colour, they applied it to the top half of the face: take Dick Page’s green and blue over-the-eye arches at Michael Kors, and Tom Pecheux’s abstract smears on lids at Peter Som. But, where New York left us wanting for bold, colourful lips, London made up for it in spades. Even bare-face-loving Burberry Prorsum busted out the rouge lipstick, hopefully a sign that lips won’t be silenced from here on out.

Runway to red carpet: Emma Stone is on board and so are we! Blue eyeshadow is making a comeback
From Todd Lynn to Emma Stone, blue is back—and we couldn’t be more excited. Yes, blue eyeshadow doesn’t have the best reputation. It’s the light-wash denim of the beauty world: you automatically think of everyone doing it wrong (case in point: your babysitter in the ‘80s) before you remember just how good it looks when you do it right. Blue, after all, is the most flattering colour for any skin tone. Stone is the perfect case in point—she’s been spotted on many red carpets in shimmering sapphire shadows.
