We’re suddenly finding ourselves craving a certain style of outerwear: the coatdress. While it might be a little impractical for our typical roster of day-to-day errands, Kate Middleton’s many outdoor-based engagements make it a winter wardrobe staple. (And bonus—it suits her trend of being thrifty: she gets to debut a fresh look without having to purchase both a new coat and a new dress.)

Well, it’s not only us regular single gals who are keeping busy on this day of love: Kate Middleton is also date-less on the couple’s first Valentine’s Day as a married duo. Will—who is on duty as an RAF search and rescue pilot in the Falklands—was sure to send his Valentine flowers and a card (aww!) while she took to Liverpool to continue charity work with Action on Addiction. The Duchess looked picturesque (as always) in a stunning chestnut-brown Hobbs flared coat that, as per protocol, has since sold out online. As she made her way to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Middleton was greeted by hundreds of fans bearing flowers and handmade cards as part of an apparent campaign to let her know she wasn’t alone on Valentine’s Day. (We’ll all just ignore the royal entourage that follows the Duchess wherever she goes.)

As if spending Christmas with your in-laws for the first time isn’t stressful enough (especially when your mother-in-law is the Queen!) Kate Middleton is expected to have multiple wardrobe changes throughout the day-long festivities at Sandringham Estate. It’s being reported that the Duchess will need an outfit for each event that will take place during the day, including a casual outfit for breakfast, a “smart” outfit with matching hat for church service, a dress for lunch, a cocktail dress for evening drinks, and a formal look for dinner. If you include afternoon tea, that brings the outfit total up to six.

Also, it’s incorrect etiquette for a princess to repeat outfits on the holiday, something that Kate has been criticized for by fashion critics. Apparently Kate is on top of her game (and loyal to designers) and has already ordered two Alexander McQueen dresses, so we’re not too worried for her.  We’re crossing our fingers that pictures surface of all her festive looks.

For the past few weeks, we’ve been hearing little buzzes about Duchess Kate being featured in Vogue. The magazine’s been in hot pursuit of the young royal, and have reportedly been hoping that Mario Testino’s close relationship with the Royal family, having shot of the Duke and Duchess’s engagement photos, would help the connection.

Alas, the rumours can now be put to rest, as the Queen has made it clear that she is not for it. A palace aid has told various sources that the Queen “would definitely not be amused,” if Kate decided to model. All sources seem to say that Kate will stick to philanthropic projects that will make a larger difference in the lives of those in need. Take that, Anna.

But aren’t they going after the wrong Middleton? With Pippa hot on the scene as of late (she recently sat front row at Alice Temperley’s Spring 2012 show), she could be just the willing fashion icon the doctor ordered.
